As a non worker I'm looking forward to becoming a worker

Labour have convinced me, so this is a success for them

Given the NI and disposal tax increase it's better for me to wind down my business and put the money into a large property

I can work part time, rent out a room and a few years time take a nice big tax free profit and downsize

It's really great, no more working weekends, I'll have sick pay and holidays, won't have to deal with accountants and hmrc, and the best, no more having to concern myself over the needs of employees.

A brilliant budget for workers.

Bit strange to name change to tell us this?

Beezknees · 30/10/2024 18:49

OK, good for you.

Msmoonpie · 30/10/2024 18:50

So do it then.

Nesbi · 30/10/2024 18:51

You won’t though so not sure what your point is?

See, this is why I'm looking forward to becoming a worker, I won't have to think about things like how to deal with laying people off!

The thing is OP, you are in a minority. And that's how Labour are getting away with this. Most people are employees so won't care. As you can see by the first few responses. Which are kind of lacking empathy or even respect for running a business that employs people.

Bananalanacake · 30/10/2024 18:53

But you are a worker if you own your own business or do you mean working for someone else instead of being self employed.

295bkq · 30/10/2024 18:53

Same as the private school issue - minority unjustly hurt, majority don't care.

Absolutely, they love their big business chums don't they? Sliding scale on corporation tax? Absolutely not.

Want to start a business, don't do it. It's easier just to buy a house and do the minimum at work to get by, they'll give you a huge tax break for that.

I was made redundant last year due to the small business I worked for going bust. You aren't going to be able to please every single person with these budgets.

SlugsWon · 30/10/2024 19:05

Erm... Good for you? Sounds like the quality of your life will improve right? So... Go you I guess

So people on low pay do the absolute minimum at work do they? Hmm

Didn't realise it was about pleasing people, thought it was about getting the Country back on track.

The multinational businesses are smiling from ear to ear though.

How would that work in care homes then? Just let old people rot away?

How would that work in healthcare? Just let people die?

How would that work in nurseries? Just leave children to fend for themselves?

If you do the minimum at work and people die, that's on your employer not you.

The employer that is being forced by the Labour government to pay people more?

cansu · 30/10/2024 19:16

Great idea it does make me wonder why you were bothering to run a business. You clearly don't need the money and was really just doing it as a good deed. Anyway enjoy your early retirement.

Well no, that's applicable to every employer in the democratic World. You're not actually required to do more than what's required in your contract you know. Do you work 80 hour weeks or something?

Do you not understand that most people who keep the country running are on minimum wage?

Apparently you don't given you seem to want them to work themselves to death.

Not according to starmer and his government

Well someone is always in minority. some of us were in minority for 14 years under the Conservative government.

Yes my apologies for not thinking that nurses should be carrying the can for the NHS by working another 20 hours a week that they're not paid for.
