As a non worker I'm looking forward to becoming a worker

Labour have convinced me, so this is a success for them

Given the NI and disposal tax increase it's better for me to wind down my business and put the money into a large property

I can work part time, rent out a room and a few years time take a nice big tax free profit and downsize

It's really great, no more working weekends, I'll have sick pay and holidays, won't have to deal with accountants and hmrc, and the best, no more having to concern myself over the needs of employees.

A brilliant budget for workers.

Yes my apologies for not thinking that nurses should be carrying the can for the NHS by working another 20 hours a week that they're not paid for.

What are you even on about?

grumpypedestrian · 30/10/2024 19:24

At least those on minimum wage can have this attitude and retire to a big property.

Oh wait ……

The thing is OP, you are in a minority. And that's how Labour are getting away with this. Most people are employees so won't care. As you can see by the first few responses. Which are kind of lacking empathy or even respect for running a business that employs people.

Oh they will care when massive lay offs begin. People are so shortsighted and easy to fool. If they do not care this is the government they deserve. Unless you are leaving in the next year or so you should be paying more attention.

Well funny you should say that, I am an NHS nurse, which is why I responded to your comment about people dying being the employers fault, but, no it would be mine that is why I have a pin number, just a crass way of displaying your anger over the budget.

If your business was a successful one you’d be fine…

Apparently you don't given you seem to want them to work themselves to death.

It's not minimum wage workers who would be dying if they didn't do their jobs, it's the people they're looking after. That includes your precious LOs at nursery.

I think your parents should be asking for a refund on that expensive education of yours.

I am fine. It is successful, it's just more profitable not to run it anymore and live off the nice untaxable profit gained from the ever increasing property market . Not sure what people don't understand about this.

I bought them a house, so I don't think so.

How many people on minimum wage do you think are on the property ladder?

I see you're also complaining about your diamond shoes being too tight.

It’s a weird attempt at sarcasm.

Do you not currently have a spare room to rent out?

Everyone who rents a room out can get the rent upto £7500 tax free. If course you have to actually share a room in your house. Which for some is just not what they want to do.

A good business would have the systems and processes in place to allow you to implement a management team to run it and still give you a profit

Sour grapes central.

Overthebow · 30/10/2024 19:33

If being an employee is so great why aren’t you already doing that? Surely if you’re running a successful business 4% extra NI tax won’t make a big difference?

AquaPeer · 30/10/2024 19:33

Why wouldn’t you do this OP? Most small business owners do it for lifestyle and or personal interest so if you have neither you’d probably won’t be very successful anyway.

I have a couple of spare rooms. No need to rent one out while I've been running my business.

However if I'm not running a business and don't want to do much work and I've got a bigger house I'll just rent one out.

8% increase in diposal tax is going to cost me several hundred thousand.
