How many times have you been in love?

As in, head over heels, I'd do anything for you, type love?

For me, only once, and I'm worried I won't ever find it again! Change my mind!

Once. I'm still with my husband after 5 children and 19 years of knowing each other.

But I do think it is possible for people to find true love again

Sussurations · 29/10/2024 20:24

Four times, I would say.

niadainud · 29/10/2024 20:27

A few, but it's never been reciprocated.

TaeAgus · 29/10/2024 20:27

Also four times if you count my dh 🤭. Not to say I'm not in love with him, but that crazy, you are my whole world and I'd die for you thing has shifted since we had dcs tbh... We're either more mature or more boring now 😬

SlightlyJaded · 29/10/2024 20:28

Five.

Teenage/first love - and it was definitely deeper than some of the later ones.
Two boyfriends that I was madly in love with
One 'near miss' that I was in love with for years, but the timing was never right.
And DH

Once

Berlinlover · 29/10/2024 20:30

Definitely three.

BeatsAntique · 29/10/2024 20:31

Six. There definitely isn’t only one person out there for you.

May I ask how old you are?

I've loved six men in total! But 3 significantly more than the other three. Two of those were very long term/lived together and married to my now ex.

All ended horribly painfully. I'm done and don't expect there to be another!

LetGoLetThem1234 · 29/10/2024 20:35

3 glorious times! The last time I fell in love was at the age 49 yrs old.
It felt exactly like I did at 16 the first time.

I am very glad to be sitting across the room from my last love.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/10/2024 20:36

I thought I loved two people in the past. I guess I did but not really head over heels - more just immature infatuation. I was with the first for 2.5 years but started to really resent him after about a year. The second was a manipulative arsehole.

I absolutely have loved my DH from the beginning. Even when I first met him, something felt different about him. I was worried I would start to lose interest in him like I did my previous boyfriend but we’ve been together 11 years, married nearly 6 and have 3 kids and I still love him completely (in spite of him being a complete pain in the arse!)

ALunchbox · 29/10/2024 20:45

Reciprocated or not? That would affect my answer.

SoporificLettuce · 29/10/2024 20:51

Twice and told myself it was reciprocated both times but events proved it never was.
I always knew it never would be, if I’m being honest. Too late now, but I’m past caring so it’s ok. 😊

Fudgeytastic · 29/10/2024 21:10

Once, for the first time at 40 after plenty of bad relationships and a marriage that should never have happened 😬

CatsandBeer · 29/10/2024 20:31

30s

ComtesseDeSpair · 29/10/2024 21:44

As in, head over heels, I'd do anything for you, type love?

Is this hyperbole, or a genuine description? I’m totally and very much in love with DH, but I still wouldn’t “do anything” for him and it’s never been an all-consuming can’t think of anything else sort of love. And I’m really glad about that, because that doesn’t sound sustainable (or particularly enjoyable!)

I’ve loved a number of people very much, and I wouldn’t compare the feelings I had for one person to any of the others. They were different people, our relationships were different, and the love was therefore not exactly the same. You can absolutely find someone else you love deeply; but I think you’re less likely to recognise when you find them if you’re comparing them and expecting to feel exactly the same as you did for someone else.

MovingonupScotland · 29/10/2024 21:46

Twice - one broke my heart and the other broke my life. I'm back but never again.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 29/10/2024 21:56

Twice

Well the "head over heels" is hyperbolic, but the "I'd do anything" isn't!

Once with my DH, I thought I was with two previous boyfriends but having experienced it with DH I know on reflection I wasn't. We've been together 17 years.

bert3400 · 29/10/2024 23:01

Once - together 25 years and many more hopefully

Changeyourfuckingcar · 29/10/2024 23:02

Mm I’ve been in love probably four times, but only once that’s been a ‘true’ sort of love, if that makes sense. One was a first love silly thing, one was as a deeply traumatised young adult in an abusive relationship, one was a fling that was intense and passionate but ultimately wrong for us both and the one that counts is my husband. That’s a good sort of love, mutual respect, trust, dependable etc. I am utterly besotted with him, of course, but it’s much more than that.

HeyDougie · 29/10/2024 23:04

Once
