Any recommendation's for good but not too spendy food places near Leicester Square.

Four OAPs descending on me. We are going to the matinee at the Noel Coward theatre. I originally booke Zendals but realise it’s too much walking one is prone to falls and I’m in the middle of my chemo cycle so not great either.

any ideas they like a curry etc and will be keeping an eye on London prices😀

You're probably better looking around Covent Garden rather than Leicester Square for food. There's a Dishoom (I appreciate opinions on Dishoom vary) and plenty of other places around Seven Dials.

Sorry I don't have more specific recommendations - it's been a while since I ate out around there. Hopefully others will be along soon with better insight!

i really like viet on wardour street.

lostoldname · 29/10/2024 12:54

Some good places on St Martins lane which is a short walk.

Ozanj · 29/10/2024 12:57

I’d just go to the pizza express next door. Wouldn’t take a risk for falls

EachandEveryone · 29/10/2024 12:58

Oh they might have vouchers as well 😀

The Alchemist is opposite, quite comfortable and a variety of nice enough things on the menu.

Cote on St Martin's Lane is always good value - you do need to book.

EachandEveryone · 29/10/2024 13:02

I did think of bills?

Probably not what you are looking for but we like Fumo on St Martins Lane, Italian but the food comes as small plates like tapas, so you need to go with people who like sharing!

if the budget is tight then the restaurant in the crypt of St Martin in the Fields is very good value and it goes to support the amazing work St Martin in the Fields does in the local area and beyond.

Can recommend https://nkaryabhavan.com/home for amazing thalis plus a full menu. They also do unlimited, where you can have endless rice and curry!
Just on Charing Cross road at the bottom corner of Leicester Square

Nagerkovil Arya Bhavan

Dishoom v expensive for what it is; it’s fine, but it’s not as great as the hype! You also can’t book, so expect to queue….

NorthantsNewbie · 29/10/2024 13:11

Browns is literally next door. Reasonable lunch menu if it happens to be a midweek matinee, or a post-theatre 4pm meal? Gets a bit more pricey on the a la carte but not silly money.

Porridgeislife · 29/10/2024 13:18

Tandoor Chop House. 0.2m from Noel Coward theatre, fairly reasonable.

ihaveliterallynoidea · 29/10/2024 16:36

De Hems is nice - other than that - avoid the area

commonground · 29/10/2024 16:46

Browns.

Or the Real Greek across the street. You can get a greek plate or a wrap plus a side for 12 quid.

Lentilweaver · 29/10/2024 16:48

Sagar. Veggie S Indian.

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 29/10/2024 17:08

Bancone at the bottom of St Martin's Lane if that's not too far. Very nice Italian.

DaisyDando · 29/10/2024 17:12

I like Mildred’s! It’s vegan but I’m not.

If you are ever around Canary Wharf (actually on wood wharf) there is a branch of Mildred’s called Mallow , gorgeous food, and I am not vegan either!

Also a branch at Borough Market, lovely.

That area is a little tricky, Soho is better for restaurants but further for them to walk. Bit obvious maybe, but do they like Chinese? Very close to Chinatown and that's probably where I'd go for something (somewhat) cheap and cheerful if I had to be in Leicester Square. Four Seasons is always decent, especially the roast meat. There are other options too, Tokyo Diner is a very affordable Japanese, Rasa Sayang for Malaysian (might work if they like Indian curry).

Wimbledonmum1985 · 29/10/2024 18:50

Flat Iron for steak?

Lovelydovey · 29/10/2024 18:52

Look at the first table website for offers if you're eating before a show.

Alternatively we like Luci for pizza and other Italian food.
