Is there something that you just cannot get to grips with, while others find it easy.

For me, I have no sense of direction and cannot read a map or compass.

My family joke that I can get lost in my own house. When I go to a hotel, a toilet in a shopping centre or the like I have to verbalise the route. I say it over and over turn right, turn left etc. if DH is with me I sometimes forget and he watches with amusement as I try to figure out which way to go. SATNAV was the best invention ever for me.

I could never find my way back to a. Terminal or bus station in an unfamiliar place.

I cannot get into my brain how we only ever see one side of the moon.

For many, many years I thought the moon had its own light – after all, we talk about 'moonlight' and 'how bright the moon looks tonight'. Truth be told, I'm still not 100% convinced it doesn't…

Deadringer · 27/10/2024 19:15

My sense of direction is fine, but I struggle with geography, ie where one place is in relation to another. I have Aphantasia which i assume is the reason. No matter how many times i study a map of central europe i cannot recall which countries are beside each other, aside from the obvious ones on the coast like Italy, Spain etc. I hate giving directions, and struggle to follow them too.

My adult DD can’t tie a bow except by making 2 loops. Parenting fail!

Mine can't. But he plays a musical instrument professionally so I don't understand his lack of ability.

My other two can, so I'm not blaming the parents.

Absolutely this, if I can't drive in, I'm not parking there, really quite embarrassing since I drive a Mini.

Same! Even with the cameras I just find reversing hard.

I’m good at maths as work in a finance related role, and good at maps as I was in the military. But reversing I am crap at. I tried to reverse park 4 times the other day and had to give up and go down the road to a different space.

ihaveanaughtydog · 27/10/2024 19:21

I can read a map and follow directions ok unless I have a passenger. I can't tell you how many times I have got lost with a passenger in the car. Can't concentrate and chat at the same time.
Friends and family now think I have a useless sense of direction. Most annoying.
I also can't maintain a healthy weight. My weight goes up and up, and then down and down. Rinse and repeat my whole life. How I envy those people who buy clothes in one size and still fit into them years later. I have a multi sized wardrobe.

I don't even try now!

Magickl · 27/10/2024 19:27

I cannot tie apron strings in a bow behind my back

icebearforpresident · 27/10/2024 19:29

I can reverse park but only in a certain direction. I’ve just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to explain what I mean and the only way I can do it is to say downhill on my side of the road, which makes sense to me because I live on a hill but probably doesn’t help the rest of you.

wineandsunshine · 27/10/2024 19:33

Any kind of exercise that involves co-ordinating left/right. I am ALWAYS using the wrong arm/leg in Pilates!!

Also, my times tables...don't tell my class!! 🙈

Unicorntastic · 27/10/2024 19:42

Speaking on the phone whilst driving , I never do it as I can't drive and talk on the phone at the same time. (Hands free before anyone comments)

DilemmaDelilah · 27/10/2024 19:47

I can't make scones. That's it really.

mrsfeatherbottom · 27/10/2024 19:48

Swallowing tablets. I can just about do it (I take various tablets daily) but it takes ages.

On the BST, I have a mental block and the rhyme doesn't work because 'fall forward, spring back' makes the same amount of sense to me.

@VictVictorianScreenTime it's surprising how many people struggle to work out the daylight saving thing. I was at a meeting last week where everyone was very academic and pretty high powered and they were having to say 'spring forward, fall back' to work it out. It's the bit where you try and think if you get an extra hour or lose an hour that baffles me!

Think of it as a redo of an hour for the autumn, and skipping forward an hour (so missing out on it) in the spring.

Sandsnake · 27/10/2024 19:57

Things that you have to do with your body / hands that requires anything involving more than one step. For example:
Dance moves
Sports drills
Fitting things like car seats
Threading sewing machines
Anything mechanical

I’m hopeless, absolutely hopeless. As is my dad, and poor DS. But we’re all sporty, great co-ordination, catching skills, balance etc. so it takes a lot of people by surprise.

Also, recognising faces. Not total face blindness but enough for it to be annoying and occasionally embarrassing.

Fordian · 27/10/2024 20:01

I can't do maths. I have a Maths O level (1979), second try.

But if you ask me how old someone is who was born Aug 23, 1947..... I can't do it.

RachelNoire · 27/10/2024 20:07

scones, hate cooking roast dinners yet others seem to do it with ease, poached eggs, flashing my headlights, lighting matches, wrapping presents

I can easily parallel park without parking sensors or cameras, great sense of direction however.

GoingUpUpUp · 27/10/2024 20:17

I cannot forward park unless there are two spaces next to each other. About 15 years ago I hit a car in a car park forward parking and now I have the fear!

I cannot cook a steak or a joint of beef. I always over cook it.

However, I can follow directions, do maths and competently follow flat pack instructions!

TheFormidableMrsC · 27/10/2024 20:29

Maths. It boils my brain.

Fordian · 27/10/2024 20:29

I'm face blind. I only realise 5-ish years ago (I'm 60+)

I get completely confused watching series on TV. There's only so many times you can say 'Who's that?' without looking like an idiot.

ToffeeSquirrels · 27/10/2024 20:37

Swimming

ThatAgileLimeCat · 27/10/2024 20:38

Keys and locks. I'm useless with them. I am also rubbish at navigating inside a building (doesn't even have to be huge, a small house will do it) but strangely brilliant at directions, maps and navigating when outside.
I also have rubbish body awareness. I can never tell if my back is straight or what my positioning or posture is. Just haven't a clue.
Oh I struggle to tell the time too.

TakeMe2Insanity · 27/10/2024 20:40

Crochet! I can knit, finger knit, sew, embroidery but can I get my mind round crochet hell no!!

AnOldCynic · 27/10/2024 20:51

Life.

HildegardeofBingen · 27/10/2024 20:51

I can't wear makeup. I really don't mind this. I touch my face too much and used to end up looking like a panda because my eyeliner and eyeshadow had gone too blotchy.

Jifmicroliquid · 27/10/2024 20:56

I really struggle with some written instructions, unless they are very clear and basic.
Even people’s posts on here when they try to explain something (like a parking/driving one)- everyone else seems to understand the post, but my brain just dribbles out of my ears.
I have an IQ of 142, I have two degrees and I was a teacher, so I’m not thick… but I seem to have a strange mental block with written instructions/explanations.

I want to buy a plug socket with an inbuilt timer but on browsing them and seeing the instructions on how to set it up, I can feel myself getting stressed. It’s like a different language.
