So how early did your kids wake up this morning

4.40am here. Ages 2 & 3.

I'm already exhausted from moving house last week and have a cold, so feeling very sorry for myself this morning.

Just a thread for those who want to join me in having a moan!

7.45, which makes sense as on a weekend she can sleep till 8.30/8.45. she's six. I don't mean to be dramatic but I would lose the will to live if she got up as early as some of the kids on here

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 27/10/2024 08:05

Not the kid, who is 15 and just before 8am on purpose to watch moto GP, but the dog was up at 2:40 wanting his breakfast and then again at 7:20 😭. He is of course back asleep now on me!

paristotokyo · 27/10/2024 08:08

8am! Very surprised Blush

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 27/10/2024 08:11

7:30, so actually 8:30 and he's currently lying on his bed with a book! We were out until nine last night though when he usually goes to bed at seven

popandchoc · 27/10/2024 08:12

6.45 for 9 year old and 13 year old is still asleep . Don’t miss those days of being up at silly o clock .

Singleandproud · 27/10/2024 08:12

It's not forever. Those early mornings feel like they are neverending but it doesnt last. I'd be quite happy if DD invaded my bed for a cuddle and to watch some Sunday morning TV with me but at 15 that's not going to happen.

She'll be up at 9 as she's got somewhere to be at 10. It's her job to make breakfast at the weekend so she'll bring me some tea and something to eat - was poached eggs on toast yesterday. And then get herself ready before popping her head around the door to say bye. I don't even need to get up anymore - which is a risk as I can return to my own lazy teenage ways instead of the responsible adult Im meant to be.

Blankspace35 · 27/10/2024 08:20

The kids are still asleep, the cats however woke us up for their breakfast at 6am which isnt too bad really

I’m hoping your DH did the wake?

He took the early shift with our toddler so I could sleep now he’s back in bed having a rest. Will be a slow day for us I think!

Not dramatic, my will to live has completely dissipated already today!

DD has just got up and I can hear her downstairs making me fruit salad, which she likes to do on Sundays (I'm in bed). She's 7.

Hedjwitch · 27/10/2024 08:44

Dh forgot the clocks went back and woke me up with coffee at 7.30. I realise this still sounds like luxury for those with young ones but been there, done that, and have earned this!( I would be looking at you DS if you were still at home!)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/10/2024 08:49

Still asleep but she’s 11! There’s light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately I woke up around 7!

@Hedjwitch

why is he waking you up? Do you have somewhere you need to be?

I sleep badly/don't sleep & I'm up early, but anyone waking me, even with coffee, would regret it big time.

No small kids, but neighbours dog was ready for his usual 4am breakfast & doesn't GAF what the clock says, only his belly. So 3am & haven't slept since. I bet he's snoring in his bed!!! 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

Pickled21 · 27/10/2024 08:56

My kids woke up at 8 30am, I on the other hand woke up at 5am. I did manage to go back to sleep at 7.30am for an hour but don't feel rested.

widelegenes · 27/10/2024 09:07

I wish I'd kept my mouth shut when I cheerily told the Lidl checkout lady that we got an extra hour in bed (she'd said she was nearly finished for the day) and she told me she had a 2 year old.
I've done clock change boot camp with 2 kids so I know what it's like. I just need to remember that others are still there.

Teen DS wondered why he was awake so early (despite me telling last night that his phone would auto change but his wall clock wouldn't).

RomeoRivers · 27/10/2024 09:07

6.30am thanks to their Groclock, normally 7.30. We forgot to change it last night!

2 + Nearly 4.

DH got up with them though so I got a lie in til 9:30 (8:30) although with DC3 due any day this week it’ll be the last time I sleep for the foreseeable! 🙈😂

andsmile · 27/10/2024 09:10

Over the moon that my DS appeared at 830 he’s 18 and has had a nocturnal sleep cycle for too long - I’m hoping he is able to see the benefits of curbing this that allows him to function better. Even though we gained an hour.

Trinity69 · 27/10/2024 09:11

Mine are both still sleeping and I vaguely recall hearing them chattering away to each other in the early hours. They’re teens now so no expectation to see them before lunchtime. Do all teens become nocturnal during the school holidays or just mine?

BaronessBomburst · 27/10/2024 09:17

I was up just after 8. DH and DS have yet to appear and it's now gone 10 where I am.

Beccs79 · 27/10/2024 09:20

6 year old is still asleep. Unusual for him, he's normally a 7:30am on the dot if I let him lie in but I think due to a number of things - we have been away last week, and had to get up really early for the airport to fly home yesterday. And he's full of a cold too.

Obviously I was awake at 7am though.

ExpectantEs · 27/10/2024 09:29

Reading this thread with 4 month old DD in my arms after another feed. We've woken up every 2 hours for the past few nights.

The responses on this thread aren't encouraging - I thought sleep would be better when DC are older? Why are children waking up at 4am?? Do they want to play or eat at that time or just cuddle? How do you all go to work the next day if you wake up at 4?

I was looking forward to sleeping until 9am again one day

I'm so confused!

DD has to be up and washed and dressed by 10am. What she does after that is her choice but I don't let her sleep the afternoon away as I think it becomes harder to get back into the routine for school.

Icanttakethisanymore · 27/10/2024 09:38

4am 🙄

You definitely won’t regularly be sleeping in until 9 with a 4 year old.
Older toddler tend to stop waking through the night regularly but will still wake for different reasons to a newborn, so they might have a nightmare, they might feel insecure on their own, they might need a drink, you might be night time training them and need to bring them for a wee at 11am. On the nights they sleep through, which is most they tend to wake early due to their bodyclock.
9 am weekend sleeps are a long way off with a 4 year old, they typically only need about 10/11 hours of sleep so to get 9am you would have to keep them up until 10 or 11pm! Plus that doesn’t account for things like light or the ever so exciting bin man waking them up.

my 11mo woke me up at 4am (he’s been waking up at 5am pretty reliably recently so obviously this morning that’s 4am). We also have a 3yo. I think his sleep got better when he was about 2yo, it’s ok now. He doesn’t lie in but rarely wakes before 6am and it’s often 6:30-7am. Sleep has been by far the hardest thing about parenting for me…. But… it won’t be like this forever (repeat 5 million times a day). Also, yours might turn into a great sleeper next week (I’m sure it happens for some people)
