How many t-/shirts do your DC wear a week?

I've just ironed and folded a seemingly endless pile of laundry. DD has surpassed herself with 16 T-shirts this week. DS is mildly better with 11. DH probably averages 10. No wonder I have so much washing! How do they compare with your family?

Pretty much what @DavidBeckhamsrightfoot said! 5 shirts for school over the week, 3 football shirts for training/matches, pe shirt and then about 5 or 6 that he changes into in the evening and spills dinner on 😂

Coolbreezee · 26/10/2024 18:03

Too much. I only ever iron shirts...

AutumnCrow · 26/10/2024 18:04

DS wears one to work, one for sport/gym, then another one if he's going out.

He washes and hangs his own stuff on an airer and hangers mid-week and at weekends. No-one irons anything.

StressedQueen · 26/10/2024 18:07

One of my 15 year olds isn't very sporty so for her it's 5 school shirts for uniform, one or two for PE shirts, and then about 7 t-shirts each day including when she comes back from school! She sometimes changes depending on where she's going so that adds even more to it. Probably about 15/16. Her twin sister is even more because she does sport, PE GCSE and goes to the gym on top of all of that so averages close to 20. DS12 is also very sporty but isn't as fussy about outfits so he's probably about 13/14 shirts.

My primary school children are around 20 because they're messy eaters unfortunately!! Plus one of them does a lot of sport and the other gets quite fussy about what she's wearing and constantly has to change!!

Lots of washing unfortunately

thesunisastar · 26/10/2024 18:07

Our three DC know they will get roasted if they put perfectly rewearable clothes in the laundry because it's easier than hanging them up. So they average one t-shirt/shirt (basically anything worn next the their skin) a day, and I expect hoodies, jeans etc to last two or three days unless they are visibly dirty.

I do all the laundry because it is much more efficient then them doing their own. No chance am I ironing anything for anyone else though, if they want something ironed that desperately they can do it themselves.

That said their chairrobes do get out of hand occasionally and I'll scoop everything up and wash it.

MumChp · 26/10/2024 18:09

Five for school. One for PE. One or two for weekend. Maybe another one or two.
So 7-10. Wouldn't accept to wash more than 10 a week.

Macaroninecklace · 26/10/2024 18:14

Seven. One clean top per day. Three school polos, two school PE tops, two casual t-shirts on the weekend. That’s usually it. Maybe one extra if they go to an event on a Friday evening or get particularly muddy on a weekend.

Granted mine are primary school so don’t get as stinky. But sixteen is just wasteful unless your DS does a massive amount of sport.

herbaceous · 26/10/2024 18:16

Why are these wasteful children not re-wearing t-shirts? Even the rankest teenager isn't going to foul one up by wearing it for an evening.

TickingAlongNicely · 26/10/2024 18:17

5 school shirts
1 pe kits (which might need a midweek wash)
2 sets rugby kit
1 scout shirt (not every week)
4 casual

CatamaranViper · 26/10/2024 18:17

If he could he'd wear the same one every single day. He had a hierarchy of football strips and has to be forced into regular clothes.
Basically main strip is worn up until it's minging, then away strip, then last seaons strip, rinse and repeat. Occasionally the England strip gets a wear

modgepodge · 26/10/2024 18:20

Seven. Clean one for school each day (PE kit worn all day). Changes for Rainbows but that doesn’t get washed every time. Occasionally maybe one extra if going to a party/nice meal so a change during the day but otherwise it’s one per day. She’s 5.

The baby maybe 10, though vests/leggings are more of an issue with nappy leaks, tops rarely get that dirty.

Because they aren't clean enough. I ask mine to rewear if possible.

BlackOrangeFrog · 26/10/2024 18:24

Id be getting them to iron the t-shirts.... They might suddenly not change 2-3 a day then...

Pascha · 26/10/2024 18:25

One a day - 7
One for sports - 3 or 4?
One shirt each day for school - 5

I suppose that's 15 or 16 but I don't keep count really.

Pascha · 26/10/2024 18:27

My teens change out of uniform each day but there's no way they could put the shirt on the next day, it would stink.

KingscoteStaff · 26/10/2024 18:34

Per school day...1 school shirt, 1 PE shirt for either lesson or training, 1 t shirt for evening, 1 t shirt to sleep
Weekend... 1 t shirt to get dressed into, 1 kit shirt for warm up for whatever fixture it is, 1 playing shirt for whatever fixture it is, 1 smart shirt for after the fixture, 1 t shirt to sleep.
So that's 30?

He has bad eczema, so cream means sleeping t shirt only gets one use.

anon202420252026 · 26/10/2024 18:40

Buy crease release op, it's £4 in home bargains.

You still need to iron shirts.

isodontknow · 26/10/2024 20:50

About average then 😩I wasn't including pj's in that, but they usually have two pairs in a week unless they get toothpaste/breakfast down them. When they were younger, they wore an apron for every meal!

@herbaceous to be fair, she does re-wear e.g. one to school, changes for sport, puts the school one on to come home.

But that's crazy isn't it?
Why do they need a clean casual shirt each day as well as a school one?
Either keep the school one on, or say the casual one has to go 2 or 3 days.
(Not getting at you, just the general wastefulness of all).

Redcrayons · 26/10/2024 21:01

All of them.

Skybluepinky · 27/10/2024 10:44

Load, gym wear, work wear, clothes to travel to swim training etc.

Edingril · 27/10/2024 10:45

You iron tshirts why?

herbaceous · 27/10/2024 17:25

DS wears a t shirt to school, into the evening, then possibly the next day too. PE kit gets washed once a term.

So... five or six t shirts a week?

MyLemonWriter · 01/01/2025 11:48

2-3 shirts each
1 for evenings
1 for weekends not necessarily washed every wear
