I live in a village with NO shop 💀 we have to drive 7 minutes each way just to get milk. Would be 50 mins walk each way so no choice but to drive. I don’t know how people live here without a car!

I mean town

Alrighty then

ZiggyZowie · 25/10/2024 10:20

A Butchers

DonnaGiovanna · 25/10/2024 10:21

Medium sized town, no Waitrose (but one in neighbouring town), no Home Bargains, not much clothes shop wise other than New Look and cheap tat. Again next town is good for this. Between the two (nine miles apart) I think we're reasonably well served. I still miss our lovely Debenhams that never went downhill in the way so many did though.

Anotherloverholeinyohead · 25/10/2024 10:21

Any chain coffee shop

RaraRachael · 25/10/2024 10:24

Most - we don't have any chain shops at all. Mostly independent shops or vape shops, nail bars and charity shops.

OldTinHat · 25/10/2024 10:26

Greggs
New Look
Savers
Aldi
Hobbycraft
Nandos
Mammawagga (sp?)
Starbucks
Timpsons (haha, autocorrect changed that to tampons!) or any shoe repair/key cutting places
H Samuels
Farm Foods
Clarks
Iceland
Kwikfit
National Tyres

I could probably think of loads more!

I live in a county town and moved here 6yrs ago. In that time, I've counted 23 shops that have gone including Monsoon, Accessorise, Top Shop, Peacocks, Laura Ashley. Very sad.

CheekySwan · 25/10/2024 10:34

Waitrose

ExhaustedHousewife · 25/10/2024 10:36

My Dd lives near a Home Bargains and she regularly shows off her bargain buys,so I'd like to have one of those I think.

usernother · 25/10/2024 10:38

I'd love a Zara and a Uniqlo. Uniqlo seem to concentrate their shops mostly in the south of England. Apart from that, we have everything else that I personally like.

fridaynight1 · 25/10/2024 10:43

B&Q
It closed a few years back and there's a bowling alley in it's place.
The nearest one now is in the next town or the opposite side of town. Both involve 30 minute motorway journeys with guaranteed heavy traffic at the other end.
Gone are the days we could nip round the corner for a tin of paint or a random piece of skirting board. It's such a faff to get there now - I never thought I would miss a shop like B&Q. Nearest alternative is Wicks and that's tiny, more expensive and total pants.

I think we're quite fortunate reading this. Medium sized market town, we do have Sainsburys, Waitrose, MandS food, Aldi, Lidl, Home Bargains, Boots, Superdrug, Savers, Greggs, numerous coffee shops, independent hardware shop, butchers, two bookshops, 3 pet shops.

What we don't have are any fast food places apart from Subway and Dominos. Don't have any clothes shops apart from Peacocks, a small selection in M&s and a big selection in Sainsburys.

DilemmaDelilah · 25/10/2024 10:50

Asda. Home Bargains.
Small city, we do have Sainsburys, Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose, and can order delivery from Asda.

TribulationPeriwinkle · 25/10/2024 10:53

I’m in London but there’s a weird
lack of Uniqlo branches anywhere near me. My nearby big shopping centre is crying out for one (it has a John Lewis, Apple Store, etc, so the right sort of level).

Lytlethings · 25/10/2024 10:56

lololulu · 25/10/2024 10:05

I don't think most of us have that.

I really should read things properly, I read it as ‘what things do you have’

longtompot · 25/10/2024 11:02

We recently got a Primark after many years of people asking for one in the comments of every news story about what will go on this big empty unit? We are about to lose our New Look as they want to turn the building into flats.
We don't have Asda (though there is one in a petrol station just on the outskirts), Morrisons, H Samuel's, KFC, Monsoon, Wilko off the top of my head.

twilightcafe · 25/10/2024 15:42

Asda.

Not that I want one - I find them miserable places to shop.

I really miss having an M&S in town. There is a big one on an out-of-town retail park but you need to drive.

fussychica · 25/10/2024 17:02

We're in market town in South West. We've got a Waitrose, Morrisons, Lidl with a Aldi in the next town so OK for supermarkets really but I'd love an M&S foodhall. Never gonna happen.
Only clothes shop is Peacocks since M&Co closed. We have Superdrug, Poundland and a Boots, which is the dingiest shop ever.
We have a number of independents, most of which do quite well but we've still got too many barbers, hairdressers, charity shops and empty premises.
I still like it for everyday shopping but go to one of two cities with 30 mins for anything special.

TeamPolin · 25/10/2024 17:17

Loads of closures in the last few years. Most buildings have either stayed empty or turned into vape shops, American candy stores or charity shops. We've lost:

M&S
Debenhams
JD Sports
Gap
Laura Ashley
JoJo Mamam Bebe
Peacocks
Jones the Bootmaker
Holland and Barrett
Argos
Coop Department store

Our town centre is dying on its arse....

SauvignonBlanche · 25/10/2024 17:17

No Booths and we’re in the North West 😢

TorroFerney · 25/10/2024 17:19

FergusSingsTheBIues · 25/10/2024 07:35

We don’t have a Waitrose which is ludicrous, we are in a well heeled town in the north west crammed full of posh old folk - but no. Nearest Waitrose is 30 mins away!!!

Do you have a Booths to make up for it?

I'm in north London. I'd love a Uniqlo. I always have pop in to one when I go to central London and I always by something

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 25/10/2024 17:22

All of them but we do have a Booths so ner 😝.

pestowithwalnuts · 25/10/2024 17:22

WH Smith
Wilko

TheHighPriestess1 · 25/10/2024 17:23

Wow I’m feeling very spoilt in my town right now. Lots of lovely independent places to eat and some lovely independent stores. I’m less than 30 mins on train to London so what I can’t get in my town I can just nip into big town 😀
