Mounjaro

I stopped smoking 13 years ago. Farewell that horrible winter cough. No more sinus infections. Now, my contemporaries are losing teeth and dying of lung cancer.

cardigankitty · 22/10/2024 21:16

I get up every day at 6am and have an hour dedicated to self care before the rest of the family get up. I do yoga, a mindfulness meditation and read a book that relates to health and wellness, at the moment a book on good mental health. I’ve been doing this since the beginning of the year and it’s a great way to start the day, I feel so positive and energised.

Also making a walk every day when wfh a non negotiable despite the weather. I haven’t drunk for decades and don’t miss it all so that’s another positive thing I guess. And trying to eat well. When I have off days and pig out I just feel bloated and sick.

Long term exercise routine that I enjoy, and cooking from scratch. I've always done both anyway, but went through a bad period of stress a few years back and both fizzled out a bit. I felt physically terrible. Skin was dry, I felt weak, my digestion was poor. Zero energy.

So I went back to it again and even with the stress still there, within a month I looked and felt so much better. Every time I get stressed now, I remember that feeling and don't let myself fall into bad habits. Which can be tricky when you feel like boiled shite, but worth it for me at least.

Lost three stone by avoiding evening snacking and by going to the gym three times per week.

Teq · 22/10/2024 21:22

Lost 8 stone.

Doggymummar · 22/10/2024 21:22

Stopped smoking about ten years ago, maybe even 15 now I think about it

Backhometothenorth · 22/10/2024 21:24

I quit smoking 13 years ago and go swimming 3 times a week. Feel great and look trim at 51 after a lifetime of yo-yoing weight. Just need to work on the wine...

Bbbhhhvfbxb · 22/10/2024 21:24

Water. Surprisingly easy to neglect.

thenightsky · 22/10/2024 21:25

Taking up pilates and aim for 3 classes a week. I've had a bad back since being a student nurse in the 80s when we used to lift patients without hoists. Pilates has completely cured me. Not jut a bit, totally.

This sounds just brilliant. Do you offer support services for those who wish to mirror this?!

Do you have DC? I have two young DC. I fear that if I started moving around at 6am, they'd wake earlier and then the moments gone for me and the whole day is a different kettle of fish if they don't get the sleep they need.

Maddy70 · 22/10/2024 21:25

Having a mammogram. It saved my life

marriednotdead · 22/10/2024 21:28

Learned to swim last year. I just asked DP and he said ‘got together with me!’ He’s joking about but he’s actually got a point, he’s done wonders for my mental health.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 22/10/2024 21:29

Gone gluten free. I now have regular periods, I'm no longer constantly exhausted or have brain fog and no longer uncomfortably bloated. Nor do I get as many headaches. I am slowly trying to eliminate dairy products too but I like chocolate cheese and butter far too much

Gowlett · 22/10/2024 21:31

Not having a car. I walk everywhere.

mindutopia · 22/10/2024 21:31

Mine is also giving up drinking and I started cold water swimming during lockdown.

StarCourt · 22/10/2024 21:37

massively reduced the amount of processed food and sugar i eat.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 22/10/2024 21:39

Mentally, getting divorced, and then living on my own & adopting a cat.

Physically, cooking healthy meals from scratch and doing weekly yoga, cardio & weightlifting.

StressedQueen · 22/10/2024 21:52

Recovered from my eating disorder from my late teens/early 20s and gained back 10kg. 16 years later and I am a healthy weight and could not be happier

This sounds great but don’t you find you get tired earlier on in the day or do you go to bed earlier? I tried this but ended up feeling even more exhausted! Really like the idea though!

I do have DC but they are teenagers so I’m finally at a point in my life where I can get up like this and not worry about them waking!

The trick for me is to just get up as soon as the alarm sounds, no snoozing or lying steeling myself to get up - I’ve trained myself to just throw the covers back and get up.

I go to bed between 9 and 10 so probably relatively early!

HappyGranny7 · 22/10/2024 21:58

Gave up smoking. Walk every day. Keto diet. In sixties and feel brilliant

Shavasana · 22/10/2024 21:58

Daily yoga has been transformational
Very little alcohol these days
Bed by 11 at the latest

KohlaParasaurus · 22/10/2024 22:01

Going part time at work and then stopping.

Long term, picking up the habit of exercising regularly as an adult.
