Following on from the 1950s thread which has been the most lovely read as that was the decade my parents grew up im wondering if we could have a 1970s one? This is the decade my parents met and got married and I would love a insight to the way people were thinking.

For me we're going on holiday to the seaside AIBU to let the children ride in the foot well of the car?

your totally correct! I should have known this. I remember watching the launch of channel 4 when I was about 10. It was about the time brookside started. How did we survive on three channels lol 😂 yes and no programmes after 12!

…Has anyone seen the shocking new hit movie ‘The Exorcist’ ?
Marjorie from accounts saw it last week, and hasn’t spoken a word about it. She’s absolutely ashen.
I’m tempted to go and see it, surely it can’t be as traumatic as everyone’s claiming?

No way! Haven't been able to take a bath since Jaws.

And they were shut yesterday 1/2 day and will be next Wed as well.

Was at my new neighbours for a dinner party and she served After Eights in their own silver trolley --- do you think she is 'up herself'?

Definitely, this is what really classy people serve:

I can’t stop my children stealing my milk and telling me there’s a Humphrey about.

I’m 50 years old and know all the words to the new Pepsi advert. AIBU?

You are NBU. You'd just like to teach the world to sing. In perfect harmony...

Oh hang on. That was coca cola I'm thinking of. Sorry.

Birds Eye Supermousse. AIBU to eat straight from the freezer rather than defrosting them?

No YADNBU . Is there any other way to eat them ?

Have you seen that very fancy new ice cream pudding, the Vienetta? I served it at my last dinner party instead of Black Forest gateau after the prawn cocktail and beef burgundy and it went down a storm with the Merryweathers from the parsonage.

This thread turns out to be an exercise in Years I Holidayed In The U.K. And The Weird New Shit They Were Into.

1982 was Viennetta year. Every single relative we visited served us Viennetta for dessert because it was the latest thing and the height of sophistication.
One of my all time favourite UK holidays. No more lumpy Birds Custard, just rococo ice cream goodness. What kid could ask for more?

So, SO much better than the I Shot JR T-shirt holiday two years before.

OMG. Yes the stick on sanitary pads are a game changer. But I’ve told my mum I want those Lillette things now and she point blank refused saying I am far too young.

Your mum is right . You might not be a virgin for your wedding night if you use those!

Bannedontherun · 20/10/2024 00:38

I saved up my babysitting money to buy a long length coat which involved tying the belt behind your back brown coat, of corse

and the boomer jacket

Pudmyboy · 20/10/2024 00:38

My bri-nylon sheets keep giving me a static shock, should I get satin ones and risk sliding out of the bed every time I turn over?

Pudmyboy · 20/10/2024 00:38

How do you heat up the water in your water bed?

Bannedontherun · 20/10/2024 00:44

My daughter got caught necking behind the bike shed what should I do

Just bought some lovely chocolate brown tights from Chelsea Girl.

I would love a pair of chocolate brown tights now!

madaboutpurple · 20/10/2024 01:50

Is your daughter playing David Cassidy records all the time?

Boiledbeetle · 20/10/2024 01:50

AIBU to be annoyed that we've just bought our first TV and we can only watch BBC as ITV have just gone on strike. It's going to be a long summer! I'm really annoyed as the second Sapphire and Steel assignment has just started and now I can't watch the next episode.

@AtlasPine

Yes, it was a real experience sadly, she's an evil cow, and thankfully out of my life now.

I have two DDs of my own now, they're all the family I need. SmileSmile

Had a feeling that was a real experience.child neglect and domestic violence was a reality for a lot of us 70s kids.
