I just want something fun to do on my own.

What are your interests/likes?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/10/2024 10:38

Just me, I would go to Borough Market. A museum and a big bookshop

Cjcik · 19/10/2024 10:38

I am a big foodie. I like walks (when there's nice scener). I'm interested in science, history and UK politics. Less so into music, though I do like listening to it.

I have been to the theatre o my own. Also did a tour of Buckingham Palace by myself. You have an audio guide so it doesn't matter if you're on your own.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 19/10/2024 10:39

Or any of the museums.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 19/10/2024 10:41

Float tank, tour of parliament, photography exhibition of it's on at the National History Museum, theatre, a fab restaurant, London Eye, a walk around 1-2 of the royal parks.

DevilgateDriver · 19/10/2024 10:41

Horniman museum. Great concept, terrible name! Good gardens too but weather dependent.

cardibach · 19/10/2024 10:42

I did a solo 3 days.
I booked the self guided tour of the Houses of Parliament which was fab.
I booked Tower Bridge tickets - excellent (many, many steps but there's a list if that's an issue for you)
Had lunch at the Cheese Barge in Paddington basin (Regents Canal)
Did a walking tour of street art around the Brick Lane area (with Alternative London - started outside the back of Spitalfields Market.
Spitalfields Market has great street food and maker's stalls. Better for a browse than either Camden or Borough markets I reckon. Less crowded.
Went to 2 shows.
I did other stuff too, but these seem to fit your likes as above.

You could book a slot to go inside the Houses of Parliament, if you're there on a day there is PMQs you could book a slot for that too. It's free too. You could then take a scenic walk along the river Thames (cross over the bridge to South Bank) and walk all the way towards London Bridge. You get the view of the London skyline if you walk in that direction. Both South Bank and Borough Market have nice food stalls and options.

Heaven! Being able to do whatever you fancy! A show, museums, galleries, cafes and eating out! Have an amazing time!

FindingMeno · 19/10/2024 10:43

Any market!

SmugglersHaunt · 19/10/2024 10:46

If you’re a foodie, then Borough market, maybe Harrods food hall, Fortnum and Mason

Greenbike · 19/10/2024 10:50

Borough market is a good one if you’re a foodie. Or else to to a decent tapas place and sit at the bar and flirt mildly with the staff. Barrafina (several branches) and Morito (Exmouth market) both good for this.

Go for a walk along Regents canal from London Fields to Regents Park. (London fields has a fun food/clothing market of its own on certain days).

The British Museum is excellent and often has shorter queue than the South Ken museums. The London Review bookshop nearby has a cafe with great homemade cake, where sitting on your own with a book is the default activity - loud conversation practically discouraged.

Go to the theatre. An afternoon matinee often feels less of an “event” so going on your own might be more comfortable, if you’re the kind of person who’s nervous going to the theatre on their own.

If a nice day and you fancy some fresh air get the train out to Richmond from Waterloo, and stroll back along the river to Putney before getting the tube back into town. A lovely walk.

Have a walk round Chinatown, round the back of Leicester Square, and from there it is a short walk to Covent Garden market. There is a brilliant book shop called Stanfords near there too, and there's also the London Transport Museum. If you are feeling flush, you can go into the Royal Opera House for something to eat (it is open to the general public, not just those with tickets for performances) and they have a gift shop in the foyer which is interesting to walk round.

sausageupanalley · 19/10/2024 10:53

It's also a nice trip to go on the uber boat down the Thames, if you get on at Westminster and go down to Greenwich you get to see loads of sights and Greenwich is great for a mooch around- there's a nice market there plus the observatory, cutty sark and royal naval museum plus great views.

Elisheva · 19/10/2024 10:56

You could see if they’re filming any tv shows, the tickets are free to be in the audience.
7 Dials is interesting to walk around, and the food hall there is nice.

TentEntWenTyfOur · 19/10/2024 11:00

I was just thinking to myself this morning that I haven't been to London for a while (we used to go often for various reasons) and I'm starting to really miss it.

This thread really isn't helping😂

Go. Life is short 😃

I don’t find Borough Market at all enjoyable on my own unless it’s at a very quiet time of day.

I miss not being able to discuss anything with. And it’s a battle getting through the enormous crowds of tourists.

It doesn’t help that they’ve crammed in so many street food places whose queues block up passageways. I’m thinking particularly of the entrance when you go down the steps from London Bridge.

Normallynumb · 19/10/2024 15:34

Boat trip.. down to Greenwich and look around the market
The Cutty Sark is really interesting too

Echobelly · 19/10/2024 15:37

Yeah, Greenwich is nice, especially if you take the boat taxi - it has a cafe so you cab have coffee, cake or even wine or beer if you want en route. There's lovely shops in Greenwich plus Maritime Museum, Queens House, Rangers House, Observatory, all of which are fascinating.

GalaticalFarce · 19/10/2024 15:44

V&A
See if there's anything on at the Barbican and visit the conservatory
Get some cheap theatre tickets
Walk along the south bank
Tate Modern
Join a walking tour or a ghost walk
Check out what's on in Greenwich and visit the market.

Thing is I'm the kind of person that loves company. I love having dinner with friends and having a nice chat.

There are some days I walk around London "trying to entertain myself" but I end up getting bored just being on my own.

I love company too. But I don’t find being alone boring, especially In somewhere with so much going on!

MMAMPWGHAP · 19/10/2024 21:23

A lesson at Bread Ahead in Borough Market?

Trip to theatre. Some of the best cheap seats are odd single ones. Use Theatre Monkey to find those. Eg slightly restricted view in stalls at Old Vic £25. Surrounding seats £75.
