What does a DWP SP payment mean?

LaurieFairyCake · 17/10/2024 06:47

I've received a random amount from the DWP SP account.

A google suggests it's a State Pension payment. It can't be unless Artificial intelligence has realised I'm extremely knackered Grin as I'm not of pensionable age

I don't collect any state benefits so I don't know what that might look like in a payment and haven't for 30 years (literally last time it was unemployment benefit at £56 a week)

Has anyone any thoughts at all?

I'd be contacting the DWP and enquiring tbh. You might have just got someone else's payment due to someone else's clerical error.

WinchSparkle80 · 17/10/2024 06:51

Sick Pay?

Sick Pay?

That's normally SSP.

I don't even know how to contact the DWP and I work all day and into the evenings til about 10pm so I will have no time in common with a phone line

I literally would have to take time off to call them unless they're open Saturday afternoons?

Yes, my life sucks - I have 3 jobs at the moment (COL) 🤦‍♀️

Can I reject the payment by contacting my bank - I can do that over a chat message

Also can't be sick pay, I get normal pay in my jobs for that when sick.

You could contact your bank however I think ultimately you will have to contact the DWP in case this is the first payment of a regular payment intended for someone else. If you really cannot call them then I think you can write to them. What is the SP amount? That might confirm what it is/how frequent.

Sunshineandrainbow · 17/10/2024 07:08

I work with pension age people and thats what the state pension looks like on their bank statements.

Most likely an error with someones bank details if your not expecting it.

Lovemybunnies · 17/10/2024 07:09

I would call the debt management line on 0800 916 0647. I speak to them occasionally as part of my job and you get through quickly and they are very helpful. As a PP said someone else might be missing their payment.

It does mean State Retirement Pension

Don't spend the money 🤣

LaurieFairyCake · 17/10/2024 07:13

It's £300 plus some change

If I thought I could just reject it on an ongoing basis then that might be an option

Would need to remember to cancel the block in 15 years when I'm actually entitled to it Grin

There is one thing which is niggling me. I have a small private pension which they wrote to me about a few months ago and that was about £300 a month to kick in I thought when 60 - but that wouldn't have a DWP SP name would it - it would be a company name ?

Also I'm not 60 yet so it shouldn't be there anyway.

I'm not spending the money, it has just taken my massive overdraft down slightly Grin

I feel like you have a responsibility to contact the DWP, even though it's highly unlikely to be your fault.

Ligglepiggle · 17/10/2024 07:15

Is your national insurance number on the payment? They usually are for Dwp payments

LaurieFairyCake · 17/10/2024 07:15

There's a number before it (not my national insurance number)

Does anyone know if that number may be personal to each individual?

OP posts:
Allthehorsesintheworld · 17/10/2024 07:16

Just checked my banking app. Payment of my State pension is shown as my National Insurance Number DWP SP amount. Is it your NI number?

Allthehorsesintheworld · 17/10/2024 07:17

Cross posted with you! If it’s not your NI number then it’s not meant for you. Contact them asap.

wiesowarum · 17/10/2024 07:17

If it looks like an NI number but not your NI number then this is someone else's payment. The amount doesn't sound like the 'standard' amount but that could be for a variety of reasons. Please contact the DWP.

LaurieFairyCake · 17/10/2024 07:29

You're right, it is someone else's NI number, same format Smile

However it's not enough money to be a pension for a month if that's paid monthly?

Actually I have no idea if pensions are monthly !

It'll be easy for DWP to reallocate the money.

You just need to tell them they've messed up!

LaurieFairyCake · 17/10/2024 07:32

Easy as in they can recall the payment without me having to do anything?

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 17/10/2024 07:32

I mean, once I've told them

It may be pro rata for someone who has just come to pension age - I would contact DWP as someone might be desperately waiting for that money and they have sent it to the wrong bank account

I am pretty sure you are right in the origin of the money as state pension but the DWP dropped .gsi from their email addresses about 10 years ago so it’s unlikely the email will work.
