I'm a Back-Street Abortionist AMA.

Did you know that you can go to a gynaecologist and say your periods are playing up and ask for a D&C to sort them out? Ask around and you'll find one that's happy to get you regular again. It's so much safer than a knitting needle.

(My mum who was a midwife knew several that would deal with "missed periods".)

By mistake I served up spaghetti that had only been boiled for 35 mins. Will there be any lasting damage?

I hear in some countries you can now get spaghetti in a tin! Let's hope they bring it out over here, it would make life so much easier.

My mother in law says that serving tinned food is very lazy.

But I have seven children, and I'm expecting again, and I'm worn out by tea time.

Beans on toast every now and again isn't terrible, is it?

Obviously I'd cook my husband a nice steak and chips, as he works all day in an office.

TheShellBeach · 18/10/2024 10:36

My six month old baby isn't potty trained yet.
My mother says we were all trained by four months.

What am I doing wrong?

What is 'spaghetti'?

Sounds like an illness!!!

It's foreign!
I won't have it in the house.

Walkinginthesand · 18/10/2024 11:14

For those of you with a tv did you see that Panorama programme the other night that showed how spaghetti grows on a tree?

AdaColeman · 18/10/2024 11:14

What I want to know about spaghetti is how do you fit those long sticks into a pan?

And as for fitting them into a tin, well I'm baffled!

My Alf says we will soon all be eating foreign rubbish, because something called the European Common Market is coming, but will we all have to shop there I wonder?

Ee, I know. Foreign food is all muck, full of grease and garlic. No wonder they're all funny buggers I ask you!

Not if you're poor, they cost too much.

(Always thought this was a 70s spoof. Didn’t realise it went that far back!).

I know this has been asked quite a few times on here - but how often do you and your DH play cribbage?

We prefer a whist drive with the neighbours. We have a couple of teak veneer coffee tables, and some extra ashtrays that I put out and I find meat-paste sandwiches go down well for supper.

What do we all think about frothy coffee? It has to be served in those Pyrex cups and saucers, doesn't it? I've tried whisking the boiling milk with some Camp coffee but it isn't the same as I've had in espresso bars and I don't know how to stop a skin forming on top. Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

Are you using sterilised milk? I know it's handy if you don't have a fridge but it isn't the same as using the top of the fresh milk!

TheShellBeach · 18/10/2024 20:05

We have Beetle Drives at the local Conservative Association.

More fun than Whist Drives IMO.

AdaColeman · 18/10/2024 20:52

@everywhichway
Someone actually gave my first husband and me a cribbage board for a wedding present!!!!
We even played it a couple of times, but each time I made a move DH (he's an ex now) yelled out something incomprehensible like "One for his knob" or "What a pone" or "Jack squat", which didn't exactly make for a convivial evening. I thought I was winning, but at the end, apparently I had lost. Those little pegs are easily mislaid, and without them DH soon lost interest in playing cribbage.

These days I'm more of a backgammon player.

I saw a recipe that called for olive oil.

Nasty stuff you get in little bottles from the chemist for softening your ear wax.

I ask you ... Foreigners ...

Surely you can't cook with olive oil?

It's for earache! You can only buy it at the chemist's anyway.

TheShellBeach · 18/10/2024 21:35

Does anyone else sometimes wonder about the prescribed medicines the doctor gives you?

I've got quite a few bottles of tablets in my cupboard and I'd love to know what they actually are.

The labels all just say The Tablets.

AIBU to think it would be better if the labels had the names of the actual drugs on them?

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 18/10/2024 21:43

I was given an Elizabeth David cookbook as a present, does anyone know where you can buy aubergines, courgettes and peppers, I've never seen any of them in my local greengrocer( I'm not really sure what they look like)?

My DH and I have talked about going along to one of those but I don't know if we'd have the courage to join in! Could we just sit and watch our first time? I have heard that the CA is quite elitist and expensive though.

Not at all!
We discuss all kinds of important issues, like foreigners, and people who pretend to be ill in order to claim the dole.

The ladies have a rota for doing the washing up and we take it in turn to bake cakes and make vol au vents.

All are welcome - well, apart from people who are not English, and we definitely do not like scroungers.
