Packing cubes ? Worth it ?

Were currently away and our suitcase are a big jumbled mess ! They were packed so neatly too , things like rooting through for a t shirt especially the kids just turf it out. We go away again in Nov. Do packing cubes help. Thinking of a different color pack each and then easier to organise. If so where from ideally cheap. They come up loads for temu / amazon etc.

Yes!
you can group items together then just list them into drawers or shelves when you arrive. If you fold and roll then you don’t need to pull everything out to reach items underneath. Different coloured for each person would be great.

Jimmyville · 16/10/2024 09:11

Yes! The danger is you can get so much more in the suitcase that it is easy to go over the weight allowance.

Yes just back from a month backpacking with a baby and toddler and we moved accommodation and areas around 6 times so that was a lot of re packing

we had a cube for the kids clothes , swimming cube, and one each for the adults

then when we unpacked we just left each cube on a shelf and was easy to find things and chuck it all back in when we moved (sometimes in a rush we literally shoved it all in messy but grouped together in right categories 🤣)

Aposterhasnoname · 16/10/2024 09:14

A thousand times yes. Can’t believe I’ve gone this long without them.

BuzzieLittleBee · 16/10/2024 09:19

Yes. 100%.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 16/10/2024 09:24

I love them.

So much easier to find everything.

I do lots of adventure tours so move around every couple of days and cubes are invaluable - e.g. activity/sports clothes, normal clothes, undies and nightwear etc. As the holiday goes on and things get worn I switch things round and have a large one for dirty clothes so easy to sort when I get back.

NotMeNoNo · 16/10/2024 09:31

Even cheaper ones are great. We went on a motorbike tour in the summer, I only had a 35L pannier to pack in, without the pouches it would have been a disaster.

scandina · 16/10/2024 09:33

Would anyone mind recommending packing cubes?

reluctantbrit · 16/10/2024 09:33

Depends.

i normally unpack if I am anywhere more than 2 days,

Unless I am constantly on the move these things wouldn’t be of any use to me.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 16/10/2024 09:58

YEP! Evening wear cube, swim wear cube, day out exploring cube, shoe bag, laundry bag, 'extras' (cables/sunglasses/hats etc) bag, undies, socks and PJ's cube.
Makes it so much easier and neater

Amazon basics cubes are great as they come in one size, i found the cheap sets come with too many small pouches and bags that are not much use, buying a set of medium and a set of large without things like tiny laundry pouches etc was way better.

Thats what I thought till I bought some.

Arrived on holiday, took out the cube containing all my underwear and tipped it into the drawer. Then the teeshirt/shorts one, just lifted everything out and placed in the drawer. Next up, dresses, they were all together so I just opened that one up and hung the contents up. Lifted the towels and wash bag out of the bottom of the case and job done. Unpacked in less than five minutes.

Going home, all the washing was sorted as we took it off and put into cubes, whites in one, darks In another, delicates in a third etc. Once home the cubes were stacked up, then taken down to the washer one at a time with ready sorted washing just needing to be shoved in the machine.

Then the best bit. All the clothes I only wear on
holiday went back into the cubes and into the cupboard ready to be just pulled out and placed in the case for the next holiday.

Honestly life changing.

Singleandproud · 16/10/2024 10:12

Yes just get cheap ones from Amazon they are great. One colour per person makes life a lot easier and you can pack away dirty clothes as you go and not get them all back out when you repack at the end of the holiday.

I literally just got the cheapest ones I could on eBay. A 6 pack for about a fiver - would be more than that now. 3 cubes and 3 pouches. I use the pouches for medicines, electrical cables, smaller kids' clothes.

I know it sounds ridiculous that they make any difference at all, but somehow they seem to defy physics.

Storynanny1 · 16/10/2024 10:13

Yes yes yes
I didn’t discover them til I was 64! No unpacking, no muddling up of socks etc
I love them
just a couple of cheap mixed size sets from Amazon

Please can someone link Tia

Carseatcarq · 16/10/2024 10:15

Ethics aside, Shein bags are also great. Also wet bags.

beeeeeeez · 16/10/2024 10:16

I think that they sell the basic ones in Primark too.

Same here. I often go on group tour-type holidays, where you are moving on every day or other day for a fortnight or so- packing cubes are fantastic for this as you can pull out the underwear cube or the tops cube and get what you need easily without endless rummaging. No need for reorganising when you’re repacking either, just put the cubes in the case.

But I haven’t found a use for them if I’m not moving around or there are only a few different stops. I find them more work at the packing stage, so I don’t bother with them for those sorts of holidays.

DrJump · 16/10/2024 10:27

Yes to packing cubes. The other thing that I have is a giant nappy wetbag. Like one that would be a laundry tub size. We chuck all the dirty washing in and the bag can go in the machine. Means the kids always know where to put dirty clothes.

cardibach · 16/10/2024 10:30

I have the easy pack pro compression cubes. I resisted for ages then had to do 10 days in Scotland in May out of a carry on size pack. Made it much easier and now I always use them, even if I don't need the compression. Just makes it easier to find things.

bloodybleeding · 16/10/2024 10:32

I just use carrier bags. Have done for years. One for each type of clothing. They then double up as laundry bags for the return home.

NeedWineNow · 16/10/2024 10:41

Yes! Can't believe we waited so long before we started using them! I've just picked up cheap ones from Amazon, Primark and Shein when I've seen them. Great for when we are cruising as you sometimes don't have the shelf/wardrobe space that you do in land based hotels, so t-shirts in one, undies in another etc and they just stack on top of one another and easy to pop into drawers.

I got a set of compression ones in Aldi before we went away in August and they are great for hand luggage, particularly as we always stay overnight at the airport before an early morning flight. I just popped clean tops and undies for us both in the large one, together with shorts, t-shirts and swimwear so we could easily change when we got to our resort. No need to open the suitcases before we arrived. The large one also had a loop on the top, so once it was emptied in the hotel I used it as a hanging toilet bag in the bathroom for my skincare and makeup remover pads.

I wouldn't travel without them now.

Dailybasis · 16/10/2024 11:15

Please don't use Shein 😔 dreadful company
