I effed up our holiday

Flying out tomorrow on easyJet - family of five - first time on easyJet- had no idea we had to book our seats in advance. Just logged in and seen there's only random single seats left. Except for two rows that are near the fire exits so can't be allocated to under 16s. I'm gutted ! What do we do now , my youngest is 7 and the flight is 6 hours long. How could I be so stupid and not know this.

I certainly wouldn't of moved if I'd paid for my seat, and iam slways a loan traveller. Why should people move because you fucked up and they have paid. Bit of a CF

Well then you would have just said no wouldn’t you, no one would drag you out of your seat! These people were obviously happy to move to seats with extra leg room otherwise they would have no!

Also those people might not have paid for those seats and just chosen them at check in so they would have had a result in the new seats.

I would not have moved either. I agree the OP is a CF

Another one who hasn’t read the thread. The OP made a mistake, not a deliberate cost-cutting choice. And then some normal people on the flight were willing to swap seats because it didn’t really matter to them. And all was well with the world. There were probably some disapproving grumbles from other passengers saying that they wouldn’t “of” moved but luckily they hadn’t been asked/ made to so again, all was well with the world.

I should add that DH and I travel together, so we pay to book seats together. But allegedly EasyJet feel it’s ok to move us. Marvellous. And yes, I read the thread and am aware the OP made a mistake.

Edited

A condition of travel with all carriers is that you must move seats for “operational reasons” upon request of the onboard crew. Definition of “operational reasons” is a matter for the courts.

And before anyone shoots me down in flames. l always book seat and flight together. L’m merely citing the position. But if you are moved your seat booking fee should be returned.

I'm interested in how they enforce this.

I bet they go for the easy option.

I always try and look like the easy option, we fly regularly with EJ and always check in as soon as it opens which gives us seats together, but we don't care.
Always offer to move in return for a glass of wine/beer. That way everyone is happy (well maybe not EJ but I think a few free drinks costs less than a miss d departure slot)

poppysgalore · 20/10/2024 22:12

Well whoever thinks I'm a CF is actually none of my business.
I've very clearly stated that I made a mistake and wasn't aware. I booked a package deal, the seat option wasn't flagged up like everyone says it is directly on EasyJet and apparently if I had checked in early (or known about this) I would have got free seats all together anyway so what exactly the issue is I have no idea !

poppysgalore · 20/10/2024 22:15

I've also paid £140 for the return flights which I checked in for as soon as I knew . Again, don't really care who thinks I'm a cf or not. I posted a thread stressed and worried about ruining my holiday and lots of very helpful people posted and gave me sound advice , so thanks for that you lovely lot !

Made a mistake but is a CF for worrying about how the flight/ seating would work out for her and her kids? Okay.

MuggleMe · 20/10/2024 23:16

So glad it all worked out. Hope the not knowing wasn't too stressful and didn't spoil your break.

jabbaf · 20/10/2024 23:40

you still haven't said what happened on the outgoing flight OP. Did you manage to sit with your 7 year old, for example?

highwaysbyways · 20/10/2024 23:47

I'm glad it all worked out! Flying is stressful. There is just too much to get wrong.

Did you bother reading her posts?

It absolutely wasn't an issue whatsoever. We arrived early and asked at the desk and they said under 12s are not seated away from a parent so cabin crew would handle it on board. The cabin crew checked the seating plan and from the random seats we'd been allocated , they looked at the one that had the people who were most suited to move ie a couple and a single traveller. These three got upgraded to the over 16 seats. Which left us three seats plus the one we were allocated so me and the 3 dc and dh had his own original seat which was about 3 rows up from us. He offered to swap halfway however he was right next to the toilet and the toilet queue so I passed on that ! The cabin crew were amazing , I'm so grateful for them and the people who happily moved.

I fly with easy jet on package deal holidays, when u check in it gives u the option to book your seat, its very self explanatory

yes @McSpoot I did read her posts. She posted on Tuesday about her flight on Wednesday then came back to post a couple of times after she'd arrived on holiday to post other things before returning yesterday, 4 days later, sunday) with an update.

She had posted what happened on the flight over four hours before you said that she didn't. So, if you read her posts, why were you saying that she "still hadn't said what happened on outgoing flight"? She, perhaps, didn't report back soon enough for your liking, but you were incorrect when you said that she hadn't said what had happened.

jabbaf · 21/10/2024 09:19

and if you look back at my posting history on this thread, you'll see that I posted before this asking why no update. @McSpoot

jabbaf · 21/10/2024 09:21

and didn't spot the post 5 days and hundreds of posts after her original post because I think we'd all assumed by that point that we weren't getting an update, as she'd already posted after arriving with zero update!

The emergency exit seats are extra legroom.

Which is about 3cm, not lots of luxurious space. On the new planes the extra leg room seats are the same distance as the normal seats used to be as they've made those smaller.

JustBrowsingTheWeb · 21/10/2024 17:02

I would 💯 swap seats for you and how old are your kids can you stick them on your lap after take off?

Hello again, sorry I was going to copy and paste a long message I actually wrote out on the very long flight and then lost WiFi 🥴

Thanks for update

Glad all sorted

Easyjet are usually pretty good at ensuring families sit together. I refuse to pay for seats and have always been in a row with my DH and DD.

Ryanair are the worst. Went on a flight with friends recently and found that my friend and I who were seated separately were sat next to a couple who had also been split up! They were happy to swap.

It annoyed me because whichever of us checked in first could could have been sat next to each other. As PP have said, it's a money making scheme.

Another one that "beats the system"

What else do you expect for free that other people pay for?

Watch for the next generation of aircraft. They are exploring tip up style seats for exit aisles.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 21/10/2024 21:07

This is one of the few advantages of being 4ft11. There is no such thing as insufficient legroom.
