Although of course MC is a game for all seasons, I do have especially fond memories of an October championships in Wales and extracurricular… fun amid the greenery of a National Trust garden.

If I've missed anyone I do apologise; do round up any players you happen to see or hear of.

And I'll start with a lovely little move that the Reverend taught me.
Finsbury Park

The Norrington Addendum is, I believe, not applicable in the December of a leap year, so playing twice consecutively in extremis is, if not appropriate, at least forgivable?

And speaking of December, the rare Arctic Diversion sub-clause valid only on Friday 13 December permits, I hope, a wild and brief leap to Merseyrail and Port Sunlight.

MyrtleStrumpet · 13/12/2024 09:14

I am certainly not blaming you, Gertrude! Someone had to get the game moving again amid people taking turns but not actually moving.
Arlanymor is a noted chaotic player, but I expected better from MarkWithaC.
I think we are now past the crisis and I will be sending a note to the Committee.

Which brings us back to London and Euston.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 13/12/2024 10:50

Thank you, both, for your support. There is a certain liberation in playing on Friday 13th. All new lines are, according to Maliphant, in play and double helixes are wild. With that in mind:

Denmark Hill

TragicMuse · 13/12/2024 11:04

Friday 13th always has a certain energy. A frisson of danger, a wildness, something of the night about it...

Denmark shill eh? It's bold!

But my gimlet eye immediately lands on Gospel Oak

Seaside1234 · 13/12/2024 12:12

Good lord, I slip off for one short city break with the regional press secretary, and the drama that I miss. (A hearts-and-minds mission to bring MC to remoter climes. I'm still defrosting my left big toe.)**

Welcome to our new players!

Marble Arch.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 13/12/2024 13:02

A 'hearts and minds' trip with the regional press secretary? I do hope it won't be your heart that is broken, Seaside1234. The regional press secretary is notorious for their amorous adventures. The duchess can't bear to hear their name mentioned and still keeps their tear-stained letters in her reticule.

Nunhead

HazelBite · 13/12/2024 18:59

Gosh this is getting all very complicated using many specialist moves, I think we need to get back to basics so with this in mind I'm going to Finsbury Park

MyrtleStrumpet · 13/12/2024 19:19

Thank you HazelBite. More simplicity takes me to Oxford Circus.

Seaside1234 · 13/12/2024 21:50

Oh don't worry, @GertrudeJekyllAndHyde , separate rooms and a firmly locked door; I well remember how the duchess's feelings were toyed with.

Mill Hill East

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 13/12/2024 22:08

The duchess does tend to get a little too attached to her protégés and it seldom ends well. She pined for the cultural attaché for years, too.

Monument

MyrtleStrumpet · 13/12/2024 22:37

The protégés have their eye on the main chance then move on very quickly. I have spoken to the Duchess's DD, who let me know that she and her brothers now have an enduring power of attorney. Just so they can ensure their inheritance is safe.

It's just so sad it's come to this.

Earl's Court seems appropriate in the circs.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 14/12/2024 00:20

Very sad indeed. In deference to the duchess's children's legal travails:

Chancery Lane

MyrtleStrumpet · 14/12/2024 12:34

Indeed. And such a short trip from their beautiful christenings at St Paul's.

Seaside1234 · 14/12/2024 23:49

Despite the serious subject at hand, I have to give you credit for that sneaky little move @MyrtleStrumpet , nothing gets past you!

Attempting the reverse of that one to Covent Garden

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 15/12/2024 09:08

Really? That's playing fast and loose with the Beckwith principles, but at least it enables me to play a sideways plunge to

Kensington Olympia

MyrtleStrumpet · 15/12/2024 12:08

Trying to dead-end the game, Gertrude?

Fortunately I can play my wildcard.

Lambeth North.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 15/12/2024 16:45

Well, Lambeth North is about as wild as one can get. Let us adjourn to

Russell Square

TragicMuse · 15/12/2024 23:26

What larks!

I was talking to His Eminence this weekend. I popped over to the Eternal City for some last minute Christmas shopping - we do love those little silk socks in papal red and naturally they simply can't be found in London. Not since Vatican II anyway.

His Eminence said that His Holiness has been known to take an interest in the game of games. He likes to add the Rome metro stations when he can.

In deep obeisance to the Holy Father, I'm moved to play Colosseo.

LlynTegid · 16/12/2024 08:04

Back to the UK and via St Pancras to Kings Cross and on to Ravenscourt Park.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 16/12/2024 18:25

Hurrah! Park life.

St James's Park

TragicMuse · 17/12/2024 13:44

Parks, parks, all the parks!

Hyde Park Corner!

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 17/12/2024 14:50

A park, a park, my kingdom for a park!

Park Royal

Seaside1234 · 17/12/2024 14:54

Park Life = Blur = great bands of the 90s = Pulp = Mile End.

Not sure which rule I'm using there, but by the time you've listened to the song you won't care.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 17/12/2024 16:09

Indeed. In homage to the chap who lived in a house, a very big house in the country (my great-granddaughter told me about him):

Chalfont and Latimer

MyrtleStrumpet · 17/12/2024 17:37

Thinking of the countryside and all things bright and beautiful.

Which takes us to Greenford!
