Mine are.. a match being lit

A damp airing cupboard! Live in a new build and quite annoyed I can no longer breathe in the smell of a slightly damp but clean towel smell cupboard. Not sure people will understand from the explanation

The smell of those strong antibacterial wipes used to wipe over skin before a needle is inserted

My children's hair after waking up

The Paris Metro - smells completely different from the London Underground!

Love the match smell too, maybe it's not so unusual?
Also
Leather
Fresh washing
Unlit cigarettes 😳

I'm not a smoker, never even lit one up. But I love the smell of cigs, that packet smell with the silver lining! And I don't actually mind the smell of people smoking, strangely.

I can't stand vape smells though Envy

Petrol

That bonfire smell in my hair and clothes when I've been sat by a proper fire

The smell of a party popper casing just after it has popped

Have you ever smelt Fireside by the White Company? Their candle or oil diffuser. I think you'd really like it Smile

Petrichor. When the pavements, or earth is so hot after days of sunshine, and it then rains.

I mostly love that it has it's own special word.

Arran Aromatics do a range of bath and shower products called “After the Rain” that has notes of petrichor….not quite as nice as the real thing but lovely all the same!

My odd one is the smell of ironing…the steam/hot fabric smell when you steam iron things. Always takes me straight back to childhood, lying on the fluffy rug in front of the gas fire watching TV while Mum did the ironing. Snug and secure, not a care in the world.

mutleyschuckle · 06/10/2024 16:20

Plasticky medical tape, the one you can tear bits off & looks like it has lots of little squares on it 😂 also old creosote, work when we've cleaned with bleach wipes, my dogs cheesy popcorny feet, plastic window films. We've put Halloween window stickers up & I was sniffing them all as I was doing it

PatsyPatsysaid · 06/10/2024 16:21

Kerosine! Best smell when boarding a plane.

quirkychick · 06/10/2024 16:22

@stepintohannakey I'm sure I read somewhere that smokey smells and tastes because in the prehistoric times humans relied on fires to cook meat, and keep warm to survive. I agree, I hate vapes - it reminds me of some boys at sixth form who thought it was cool to smoke cherry tobacco in a pipe, it smelt grim!

I love the match too. Errrr silage (covers face in embarrassment), stables, polished wood, fire lighters (predictive text tried to say ‘fire fighters’ I’m sure they smell great too😅!!!

Ooh, not stables, but I love the smell of that dried grass chop that's fed to horses.

MyKingdomforaNameChange · 06/10/2024 16:27

The smell of my horses muzzles, just below the nostril on the side of the face.

stepintohannakey · 06/10/2024 16:28

I love the ironing smell. Coupled with watching the clothes go straight and neat, that smell and feeling gives me a major dopamine hit! Also reminds me of when my mum would iron my knickers 'for a treat' and I'd put them on quickly on a winter morning Grin

When I was heavily pregnant we were having the exterior of our house painted. One day the painter knocked on the door to ask me if something was wrong with his work as I kept going outside and examining his work, I had to tell him that I was actually smelling the paint….poor fella, obviously thought I was a complete weirdo 🙈🙈

Chimchar · 06/10/2024 16:31

Yes to the smell of ironing!

I love the smell of the green vine bits on tomatoes. It's really lush.

Play doh. It's got to be the branded one though.

Bless you, I love the smell of paint and get terrible urges to lick the paint brushes Blush when DIY instagram accounts I follow mix their paints and start talking about it all, I want to eat it

Not normal, I know

bicycle shops that sell new bikes/tyres, love to smell them

Gosh I love a damp flannel to suck and chew on Blush not pregnant!

But my PICA was so bad when pregnant with my son, I wanted to chew on washing powder and sniffed lavender zoflora like it was a drug

I love a damp flannel to sniff and chew! Not fresh out of the washing machine though - has to have that slightly musty/mouldy damp smell. 😍

Shityshitybangbang · 06/10/2024 16:43

Not exactly the same, but I know when I’m anaemic as I crave smells. Cleaning products, baby bath. Lush products.

Yes to this! And I also crave ice to crunch.

Shityshitybangbang · 06/10/2024 16:44

I just read the posts above about PICA. I love the flannel or sponge too. My mouths watering now lol 😂

murasaki · 06/10/2024 16:44

The smell of sun tan lotion on my toasting arms.

FifiFalafel · 06/10/2024 16:47

Rabbit hutches.
Old churches.
The old beer smell that wafts out of pub windows.
Another vote for the Paris Metro too - that rush of scented air (French cigarettes/coffee/wine/perfume/hot Paris) that hits you as you step down off the street - ohhh lovely.
