What’s your superpower?

Two questions, the first is in the title- what’s your superpower?

The second is, if you were asked this as an ice breaker at the start of a team-building whatsit, would you think it was wanky?

Mine is that onions have no power over me, I could chop a hundred of them with no tears.

I can sleep at will. I really don't understand how people have trouble falling asleep. I wish I could work out how I do it, then I run classes and make my fortune.

Yeah, maybe we could join forces but I don't think we'd get very far with..."Have you tried closing your eyes?"

LucyLocketLovesPollyPocket · 03/10/2024 19:10

My superpower is being able to change an empty loo roll. In all my years of living with housemates, boyfriends, husband and children - I am the only person who has this incredible power. 💪

the80sweregreat · 03/10/2024 19:10

I have the ability to see through people's lies and things they are making up on the spot
(That's probably an age thing though )

Zoflorabore · 03/10/2024 19:22

I can make up a poem about anything, I did my son one for his dad’s wedding, i read one out at my fil’s funeral etc etc, very personalised and detailed and took me 15 minutes.

i also have a photographic memory and can remember the car registration of every car my dad has ever had ( and in order ) since I was a little kid and I’m now 46.

however, I’m still unable to play rock/paper/scissors which is bloody embarrassing 😭

DreamingInPhosphorescence · 03/10/2024 20:06

I can reliably park a variety of vehicles in tiny or inaccessible spaces. But if you even mention the word ‘icebreaker’ I will get up and leave. Sorry.

Garlicbest · 03/10/2024 20:10

PROCRASTINATION! I have got a superpower after all 😂

LateMumma · 03/10/2024 20:12

I can stop anyone's hiccups

I can stop anyone's hiccups

Shooting them is cheating.

JanetJane · 03/10/2024 20:13

I'm resistant to peer pressure. Surprisingly rare. So in an ice-breaker situation I'd answer this if, and only if, I felt like it ;-)

Itonlytakesadiagram · 03/10/2024 20:22

DH would say not finishing anything. I would have to agree.
Also, people open up to me. People I don't know usually. They just tell me a load of stuff. Be it on bus rides, tradesmen doing work outside on my road, those I've just met and doing ice breaker type tasks with. I know their life story after two minutes. I once sold something to a lady on eBay and she said she felt like she'd known me forever 🤣

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 03/10/2024 20:35

I have an unusually high degree of colour perception, it's not a handy skill and just means I take ages to choose the right paint colour when decorating.
I also have an internal compass, very handy when needing to find my way back to the car when I've been out for a walk
I never panic.

I don't mind it as an icebreaker, some people will think icebreakers are wanky no matter what you choose, can't please every one. You could phrase it differently, eg tell us something that makes you unique.

My brother couldn't stop hiccuping, the GP sent him to A&E as apparently it can be a sign of a stroke or brain tumour.

Yeshelloxxxxx · 03/10/2024 21:09

I get really strong 6th senses about people. Its strange as I don't know what causes it. It's helped me avoid specific situations and when the truth does come out I thank myself for trusting my feelings.

OaTheonlyway · 03/10/2024 21:16

I can recognise people who went to my primary school which I left over 30 years ago. I’m talking random people who weren’t even in my class.

CellophaneFlower · 03/10/2024 21:20

Same, I'm 47 though 😂 But only my dad's plates. I don't drive. I know my partners though...but only as his car previously belonged to my dad 😂

BarkingAtTheSea · 03/10/2024 21:33

I'm excellent at assimilating information when comparing holidays 😄 DH will say "this one's cheaper and includes breakfast" and I'll swoop in with "yes, but it doesn't include checked baggage and the flight time would mean an overnight airport hotel, and this one includes 2 free hours waterpark access per day". It's a rare skill!

I'm the queen of finding things.
I always find anything almost instantly after someone announces that it's missing.

Me too!

I have a list in my brain with everything in the house. And. Where it is now.

Sometimes i pretend i don't know cos I'm tired of always being asked where something is...

lucyintheskyyy · 03/10/2024 21:45

Posting under a throwaway name because this is very outing

I can say almost any word backwards without thinking about how to do it. They just appear backwards in my head - have tested this out many times by recording myself saying a word backwards and then reversing the recording!

Many of my easier backwards words have become everyday names for things in our house (DP has also adopted them!) such as ‘enohp’ instead of ‘phone’, ‘rood’ instead of ‘door’ and ‘egdirf’ instead of ‘fridge’ Blush

LondonLass61 · 03/10/2024 21:54

Freezer Tetris.
I'm brilliant at parking - can always find a space (even in central London) and I can park in the tiniest of spaces - had a round of applause from some builders the other week 🙂
I've got Cptsd and the superpower from that is that I'm great in a crisis - I know that I've survived worse.
I'm also good at strategic thinking - can see the implications of stuff way down the line - this is from being hyper vigilant.

God me as well. It's a standing joke with my friends that people tell me their life stories. I have had people in pubs tell me things and say they've never spoken about them before.
I do annoy people when I go out because I can't stop talking to strangers. I've put it to good use in my job

I can fall asleep really quickly and practically anywhere. It really takes the sting out of long journeys.

That's definitely a superpower -- And one I wish I had

Fuelledbylatte · 03/10/2024 22:07

I can count on one hand how many times I have been late because I get a sense of when I need to leave and go with it- nowadays with live traffic updates and trains etc there's not so much skill in it but I'm still early or on time because of it..

I can also feel/know the time day or night and I thought that was quite unique until this thread 😂

DisenchantedOwl · 03/10/2024 22:16

"what’s your superpower?"

I don't have one.

"The second is, if you were asked this as an ice breaker at the start of a team-building whatsit, would you think it was wanky?"

Yes. Would make me eye roll. Hopefully in my head but it might leach out.

Echobelly · 03/10/2024 22:18

Finding things.

But it might just seem that way because all three other members of my household are just absolutely terrible at finding anything, although admittedly all 3 of them probably have ADHD (one definitely, as has a diagnosis)
