How many slices of halloumi?

BlackOrangeFrog · 03/10/2024 16:28

If you were served grilled halloumi as part of a main meal (it being the main protein) how many slices would you serve and adult?

So like, halloumi, salad and wraps.

I'm talking the standard size packets (220-250g) , all sliced to around half a cm thick.

Yes 30g is serving size for cheese.

Don’t be ridiculous 😆

Yeah halloumi is so bad for this, why is why i never ever make it the main part of the meal. It's just too high in calories, salt and fat for it to be the main star because really you'd want half to three quarters pp.

I've made halloumi meals for ex partners who felt entitled to a whole pack and were actually disgruntled at having to "share". They were genuinely upset, and would have happily had it all knowing it left me with none!

I love it, but I'd rather have 2-3 slices with some chicken and not feel like a fat fuck afterwards.

I put on 2 stone in a year being greedy with paneer, which is very similar to halloumi.

Edited

You had more than one ex partner that had halloumi greed?

Really?

midgetastic · 03/10/2024 19:35

A serving may be 30g but up to 3 servings would be a portion in a main meal

Which is close enough to half a pack for me Smile

I can't believe you out on two stone purely through eating paneer! Unless you were eating several packs a day. Paneer has lower fat content than most cheeses. I eat loads of cheese each week and haven't put on weight. It's all about the big picture.

Really!! It was fairly new and trendy and everywhere. They did the same with other food of course, but halloumi 100% featured in 3 relationships. I got told I was trying to starve one, tight by another, and controlling by the third.

I did not have good relationships in my 20s.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/10/2024 19:42

One pack between 3 adults and child seems stingy

Guessing child eats 1 slice

So leaving 2 each for adults

eatingprayingloving · 03/10/2024 19:46

Is this the vegetarian version of The Mumsnet Chicken?

Yes! It was served with a massive salad!!

Clearly!

exprecis · 03/10/2024 19:48

Since there was a massive salad, you'll be stuffed for the next week

AmeliaEarache · 03/10/2024 19:49

As a small part of the meal, a couple of slices is ok. But that assumes loads of hummus and all the other stuff.

As the main ‘filling’ part of the meal, about half a pack, because 3 or 4 slices is good.

Ihateboris · 03/10/2024 19:55

Thank you so much. 💓

What could i eat? 20 without much effort.

So it's a bit tight to share a pack between 3 adults and a nearly 4 year old?

We had flatbreads, dips like hummus and tarama, big leafy salad, olives, and 2-3 slices of halloumi each.

I'd feel hard done by.... they must have been almost transparent!

I’m sorry op but you must have been able to see through them they were so thin.

Doggymummar · 03/10/2024 19:59

Always an odd number three or five

EnglishGirlApproximately · 03/10/2024 20:02

If anyone wants a brilliant Halloumi recipe I make this often, served with flatbreads. It's made to share between me and DS and every single time he asks me if he can have a full halloumi next time 😄cookingonpage32.wordpress.com/2023/05/21/baked-halloumi-with-lemon-wild-thyme-and-honey/

biglipslittlehips · 03/10/2024 20:09

I find it so unbearably salty. I have no idea how people can eat much of it. I've tried numerous brands

Just in case you're veggie (halloumi wraps giving that impression maybe) you do know taramasalata is fish eggs, dont you?

I am mystified that you think:
a) eating halloumi wraps = a vegetarian
b) a vegetarian (or an omnivore, or anybody actually) would not know that taramasalata = fish eggs

If you're mystified that easily I suggest maybe getting out more and mixing with the general population - who are mostly daft as brushes.

I have known more than one person make a 'veggie' tea of greek bits for friends and have mistakenly included taramasalata.

Nah, people are mad..they think capers are fish or don't realise parmesan isn't vegetarian etc

I'm surprised you're surprised ha ha

We do a quarter per serving. It's not loads but it's so high in calories.

No they were definitely around 1/2 cm. I think 8 slices?

3 yo had 1
Adult 1 and 2 had 2 each
Adult 3 had 3.

Maybe? Ha ha, some of them kind of split into two. You know how it does if it unfolds.
