What can I do to my kitchen (pic)

I like to do things that are not the norm. When it comes to decorating. I want to do my kitchen next . But I want to do something unusal . But im not sure if it would work in a kitchen . Also I'm slightly debating If I should keep the unusal stuff upstairs 🤣.

I have included a picture of the kitchen and the last wall that I painted in a bedroom to give an idea of what I mean by unusal. I don't want this in the kitchen but still want something a bit out there.

I would keep a fairly neutral colour on the big things and do your unusual things with pictures and accessories and appliances.

Hey I remember you OP
Hope the kids enjoying their bedrooms
Have to say that kitchen is bloody spotless ! You are doing really well , sad to see you go back to that username ☹️
I know some of what you've gone through and just wanted to say keep going .. you are doing great

CatherinedeBourgh · 02/10/2024 18:08

The kitchen is very neutral, you could have some fun on that wall without incurring major cost if you decide to change it later on.

(I think that bedroom's fab, btw)

KnickerlessParsons · 02/10/2024 18:10

I would paint the walls dark blue and put something funky and brightly coloured on the floor - could you pair the floor similar to that bedroom wall you did?

beetr00 · 02/10/2024 18:23

do any of these appeal @Shithole101?

You could cover or paint the cupboard and drawer fronts. For some reason my first thought was these "ice-cream " colours.

Kitchen is an old pic 😅 it is reasonable though. The boys love their rooms. They do still end up sharing at times though.

The user name did used to mean a negative thing because I was upset with myself at the time. But now I just see it as a name I use when I'm decorating and sorting stuff.

And thank you . Definitely in a better place now. Hope it stays that way 🙏

Yeah I'm not worried about costs as such. Anything i do paint wise would just take a few coats of white to get it back to normal. Just don't knlw what to do.

Thank you 😃

That went though my head but the kitchen is only 2.5 years old . I think once it's showing wear and tare bit tired looking then I will but I don't think I should just yet .

I think do whatever you want!! Social media is full of similar geometric painted bedrooms so I dont think it's considered that unusual - so go for it. Just nothing too dark if you need to repaint it more neutral colours in the future!! You could saturate the room in one bright colour (pink, yellow, blue etc) ceiling, walls and cupboards, with a contrasting colour for accessories maybe?

I don't like them 🤣. I'm now wondering if I should judt keep the kitchen normal
May it just does not work for a kitchen

Yeah I agree its not truly unusual. But I feel it is when I see most stuff grey or cream it's just a new thing. It feels easy to experiment with a bedroom . But a kitchen feels harder

What kind of colours do you like?

I agree with pp suggestion to paint the units as well as the walls, I am not sure bright and quirky would work with all that beige.

Maybe a vinyl floor mat if you need something hard wearing eg images.app.goo.gl/qEwkGDZBvP14rkUm6

AudHvamm · 02/10/2024 19:08

My first thought was adding in some gold or silver. What about marble effect on that blank wall? These sorts of colours would work with the neutral - this is wallpaper but I've seen tutorials for painting a marble effect if you felt up to that.

See I I don't like white /cream walls. But I am wondering if I find an unusual blind and add picture or paint to small sections of the kitchen and have the white background. Although I didn't want to... but it might be what works.

Or maybe I could put bright ott stuff on the smaller walls . Ie the wall that surrounds the window and door. And then the wall that's shown on the pic keep that toned down . But maybe add a few bits to it 🤔

Why not go for an ombre effect on the walls - the blue in this is pretty although an ice cream palette would be fun in the kitchen. https://www.familyhandyman.com/list/wall-painting-ideas/

You could just do a small amount in deep colour near the work tops (so lie a splash back) and keep the rest of the walls in ever fading pastels that go white just before the ceiling. This is a wallpaper but it gives the idea https://www.happywall.com/en/dark-teal-watercolor-gradient-wallpaper/100/100?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3vO3BhCqARIsAEWblcDZYabIr5b_JT7nQYMQg7IgGGpyVDDi9WXL7_8PNsaAPuen9pkcInoaAp7eEALw_wcB

What about a series of pastel vertical stripes?

Not so busy that it overclutters the kitchen, but definitely more interesting than a blank wall...

BeaLola · 02/10/2024 19:43

Could you paint a picture /mural on the plain wall ?

Or maybe a wall of framed photos

If the kitchen is fairly new and I'm good order I wouldn't paint units just yet

Could you have shelves across and display sobething you like - eg in my kitchen the end wall corner units have either China jugs or unusual cups and saucers on them

Can I just say your children's wall is fab and I've seen sone of your past posts and im glad things are going well for you

overmydeadbody · 02/10/2024 19:49

I loved a wall mural and have painted lots in my house!

I am toying with the idea of three wavy lines in oranges and blue (mexican vibes) along one wall in the kitchen. So far I've done nothing with it.

I've also seen some nice kitchens where the ceiling is painted a lovely colour, and one where the ceiling had radiating stripes like a circus tent...

Eddielizzard · 02/10/2024 19:53

I think you have a great sense of colour and the bedroom wall looks fab. I think you'd do a good job of the walls in your kitchen. No need to touch the cabinets, just do the splash backs and walls etc. If it goes wrong you just paint it white again.

Go for it!

DeliciousApples · 02/10/2024 19:59

Do all the cabinet doors and drawers different colours. Top and bottom directly above each other the same colour so it carries on up vertically.

Copy on the walls with paint so it looks like a red stripe on bottom cabinet top cabinet and wall. Next to a blue stripe bottom cabinet top cabinet and wall etc.

Or do all the cabinets in totally different colours. You could clad them in sticky back plastic. Easy to wipe clean.
