What can I do to my kitchen (pic)

I like to do things that are not the norm. When it comes to decorating. I want to do my kitchen next . But I want to do something unusal . But im not sure if it would work in a kitchen . Also I'm slightly debating If I should keep the unusal stuff upstairs 🤣.

I have included a picture of the kitchen and the last wall that I painted in a bedroom to give an idea of what I mean by unusal. I don't want this in the kitchen but still want something a bit out there.

Oh FFS 😆

@Shithole101 Don't do anything to your kitchen that makes it look like anything on this link! There are some proper monstrosities on there! 😱

Could you paint a picture /mural on the plain wall ?

Or maybe a wall of framed photos

If the kitchen is fairly new and I'm good order I wouldn't paint units just yet

Could you have shelves across and display sobething you like - eg in my kitchen the end wall corner units have either China jugs or unusual cups and saucers on them

Can I just say your children's wall is fab and I've seen sone of your past posts and im glad things are going well for you

Yeah definitely not painting units.
I would like shelves to set the wall off a bit
But crap would get dumped on them.

Thank you

I'm gonna do it now because you said not to 🤣. No i like my walls to be bright . But not the units as well I think it would feel hard to keep clean as well. Even though it's just colour.

We chose this wallpaper mural for a wall in our kitchen and the velvet bench/paper/light/wood combo too, just to break up the neutrals and add some interest. Had it over a year now and still love it.

What about large prints of fruit and veg or style it like an old style American diner? Lots of red black and white?

Have you seen this incredible house painted like an Egyptian temple. www.instagram.com/p/C8q28g8sJC0/?igsh=c2c1cDZ3dG5ya3R3

Your style looks similar.

I wasn't being smart in my last comment saying it wasnt unusual, I just meant I thought you could get away with it not being too much!

What about a plant wall? A wall of shelves covered with houseplants?
Or a shimery muted gold paint on the walls?

yesmen · 02/10/2024 23:17

The principle of paint job you have on the bedroom wall could also work in the kitchen if modified.

Made smaller, it could be work as back splash, running the length of your counter tops and a few inches high. You could pick it up on the door, either go into the kitchen, or coming out.

I have seen Highland Cows as a backdrop to the oven/hob. They were lovely. Can't remember what they were called (and there were lots of options other than cows), but I couldn't have them as my hob is gas.
If you are able to paint, and I think you probably are!, what about a market fruit & veg stall? Or a boulangerie type thing? Covering the main wall.

yesmen · 03/10/2024 06:19

Can I just say? I remember your other thread.

I know you struggle but, goodness me, I really admire you.

It's OK I did not think that.

Definitely not a plant wall though I would kill it .

That could be a thought. What do you mean by " and a few inched high"

You are very talented @Shithole101

Aparecium · 03/10/2024 08:32

Love your artwork!

If you did something like that in the wall over your stove, you risk is being spoiled by the gunk that always accumulates above a stove without an extractor fan. Unless you're the type to regularly wash walls down!

So I would suggest a design that is deliberately different in the area above the stove. Then when marks develop they won't stand out. How about flames or steam, in the style of Roy Lichtenstein?

I don't use my cooker. I don't know who that person is. I will Google him and the suggestion you said

Are they tiles on the back wall along your cooker and counter top ? Or is that back wall flush? If tiles you could get a huge colourful print or a few smaller ones and join them up or put them beside each other above the tiles. (Or do your frog tape). If it's flush a big colourful splashback some really great ones out there.

I have found myself even just putting colourful items in a space that has plain colours can really brighten it up, even changing the colour of the kettle and toaster here changed the whole look of the kitchen. You can save yourself painting all the walls by adding coloured accessories.
