I'm talking those made for TV hallmark style Christmas films where everyone wears red and green and there's always snow!

I'm in the mood for a Christmas binge while I clear out my spare room. It's a cold bright day here so after a bit of cheesy Christmas fun!

One Magic Christmas, Prancer and Mickey's Christmas Carol. We have watched them every year since they first appeared on VHS, then DVD and now streamed!

I wonder if any of you hallmark fans have watched faraway on Netflix? It’s not a festive film but follows the same the same sort of plot storyline as a classic hallmark, yet manages to subvert the genre a little with quite an empowered female lead and a European style . Apparently it was made by an all female production team, camera work, script etc. It’s an interesting contrast if you love hallmark.

The Family Man - have watched it every year since it was released - 20+ years. Brilliant film.

Was about to say this. A Christmas Carol inspired “what if” story with Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni.

I had to buy it on DVD as I couldn’t find it online anywhere but now I can watch it every year, along with Muppets Christmas Carol and Elf.

The Holiday - Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet decide to do a home swap at Christmas
Miracle on 34th Street - both versions
The Bishop's wife - 1947 with David Niven and Cary Grant (the 1990s version - the Preacher's Wife with Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston is OK but I preferred the original)
Arthur Christmas
The Santa Clause 1 and 2
Love Actually - I know, I know - but I like to watch it each Christmas
Northern Lights - the British version - where Robson Green and Mark Benton go to war over Christmas decorations

Of the Hallmark- type variety
The Christmas Chronicles - Kurt Russell as Bad Santa along with Elves with attitude
The Snow Bride - a tabloid gossip reporter is sent to dig up dirt on the son of an old California political family - but gets stuck in the snow and the only clothing she has is her bffs wedding dress
Crazy for Christmas - old guy books a limo and starts giving away large sums of money
Love at the Parade (sometimes love at the Thanksgiving Parade) - woman who organises the big pre-Christmas parade crosses swords with an efficiency consultant brought in by the city
A Christmas Kiss - female PA with horrid female boss is in a lift malfunction and is kissed by a stranger - but it all gets very complicated
Falling for Christmas - I was surprised I enjoyed this as it has Lindsey Lohan in the lead as a annoying heiress that gets amnesia
A Castle for Christmas - Brooke Shields stars as the American who travels to Scotland to revisit some family history but falls out with the grumpy Laird of the Castle

The Christmas in Evergreen series. Books are also brilliant!

The Mrs Christmas series

Anything with Lacey Charbet

Christmas Mail

And the more mainstream ones

The Family Stone, Santa Clause the Movie, Miracle on 34th Street (1994), Elf, Christmas with the Kranks (book also brilliant), National Lampoon's Christmas vacation, The Night Before, Polar Express, Jingle all the Way, The Christmas Chronicals, Scrooged, Muppet Christmas Carol, The Santa Claus and Arthur Christmas

We watch a lot of Christmas films in our house!

Last Christmas

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 25/09/2024 14:10

The Princess Switch films where Vanessa hudgens plays 2 characters. Then the sequels when she plays 3. They are so bad 😂Dh loves them and makes me watch them each year.

WhyDoesNothingWorkj · 25/09/2024 14:13

ooh yes @Lunde A Castle for Christmas on Netflix is nice- you have to look past Cary Elwes' utterly shocking Scottish accent but it is proper cuddly feel good Christmas movie.

anxietyaardvark · 25/09/2024 14:15

Deck the Halls with Danny De Vito and Matthew Broderick

BusySittingDown · 25/09/2024 14:27

There's one called Pete's Christmas about a boy that has a crap Christmas and then he keeps living Christmas Day over and over again. A bit like a Christmassy Groundhog Day.

I love all the Hallmark ones.

Emmanuelll · 25/09/2024 14:28

The Holiday

mogtheexcellent · 25/09/2024 16:20

My 4 favourites are:
The Christmas Chalet on Prime
Christmas in the Highlands on Prime
A Gift Wrapped Christmas in ITVX
Marry me at Christmas on Prime

also good are:
Father Christmas is back (netflix)
The princess Switch 1, 2 and 3 (netflix)
Christmas Prince 1, 2, 3 (netflix)
Falling for Christmas (netflix)
Christmas at the Chalet (with Terri Hatcher)
A Christmas Inheritance (netflix)

TulipTuesday · 25/09/2024 16:22

Like a pp I love these films but the names never register, the only one I can remember and it is brilliant, is A Very Mix Up

Lessstressedhemum · 25/09/2024 18:02

I find A Castle for Christmas absolutely unwatchable because of the accents. I'm sure there must have been some actual Scottish actors they could have employed.

There's a really, really awful one where the woman revamps the town open air cinema and gets the guy but I can't remember it's name. Dd loves a Christmas film and I am tortured with them over and over again.

The accents were terrible - but I loved the knitting circle at the pub

emsmum79 · 25/09/2024 22:01

Definitely The Knight Before Christmas. So bad it's good. It's my guilty pleasure whilst wrapping presents.

Oh Christmas tree/Fir Crazy.
A Christmas Story, it's set in the 1940's.
Finding Father Christmas, it's a series of films.
I've actually been watching a Christmas film every day since the Great! Christmas channel started, much to the annoyance of the rest of my family.

GeorgeBeckett · 25/09/2024 22:16

Your Christmas or Mine 1 & 2 on Amazon Prime. Written by Comedian Tom Parry

Also honourable mention to the Nativity films.

SiobhanSharpe · 25/09/2024 22:34

Christmas with the Coopers, with Diabe Keaton and Jon Goodman, Jake Lacey (as always) and Olivia Wilde

PurplePeacock · 26/09/2024 16:41

The 12 Dates of Christmas! It’s on Disney and stars Mark Paul Gosselaar and Amy Smart. Kind of a Groundhog Day storyline but we discovered it by chance years ago and now watch it every year!

LER83 · 26/09/2024 16:46

Christmas Inheritance on Netflix, it's definately a hallmark cheesy christmas romance! Despite it being very cringe worthy, I've got in the habit of watching it every year when I wrap the presents!
