For example: I just can’t be a passenger in the back of a car. I wouldn’t even contemplate it if the car had no rear doors. The claustrophobia would send me into sheer panic.

Water parks. Wish I could enjoy them with my DC, but those slides terrify me! Even the mild ones..

Use Teams chat in meetings.

The words ´I will put the link in chat' fills me with dread.

How is it possibly more efficient to have to go searching through numerous ´ chat' threads to find the source, rather than having it sent on email which is immediately searchable ?

Absolutely! This drive me nuts. Thank God I have a few colleagues who remain resolutely email people.

rainfallpurevividcat · 25/09/2024 07:52

Yeah, I've never been to a water park. Have been on the odd indoor swimming pool slide and log flume type rides but that's it. It is possible to really hurt yourself at a water park and they don't seem great re health and safety in some countries.

unmemorableusername · 25/09/2024 08:38

I can't draw beyond stick figures/pre school level.

I can't knit.

I developed vertigo post birth. Was fine before.

Used to have bad claustrophobia- couldn't sleep in a bunk bed- but that's hit beater as I've aged. Still can't do caving though.

Can't touch my toes.

Can't function on less than 6 hours sleep.

Can't do crosswords. Cryptic clues are baffling to me.

I can't spot hidden meanings in literature.

I can't tell if someone's lying.

Driving on the other side of the road, abroad is something I've done but hated and I've avoided it since. Really want to overcome this.

Burst a balloon.

Bite off sellotape with my teeth. DH can't understand how I can't do it, but I just can't, my teeth aren't aligned properly!

Oh me too! DH thinks I'm making it up. Nope - always need one of those dispensers with a serrated edge.

AstronomyDomine · 25/09/2024 09:14

AAudreyHorne · 24/09/2024 21:52

I can't either.
It frustrates me because everyone else knows without thinking, but I have to really think about it.

DH can't - forever telling him "no love, your other left" 😉

@deviantfeline and @Femunculus
I listened to a podcast yesterday about people not being able to burp:
https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/177-gleeks-and-gurgles/id941907967?i=1000529681246
In short, it's possibly an accidental learned response as an infant and can be righted by a botox injection to the sphincter in the throat (I may have remembered this slightly wrong - sorry, had I known I would need the info I would have paid more attention).

I also struggle to phone people I don't know. I'm on day 3 of trying to phone a garage to book my car in.

Thanks @mynxy, I knew about the botox (my doctor refuses to entertain this solution) but not about the learned response. Will have a listen!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 25/09/2024 20:16

Have an MRI or CT scan without freaking out.

Work out which is my side of the bed in a strange room.

DH is like this!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/09/2024 12:40

I can imagine they did - one time I was at a toddler group where the resident small dog did a poo on the bark chippings under the slide, then turned around, sniffed it and then...ate it.

The adults were turning green but the toddlers were like "Best! Playgroup! Ever!"

🤣🤣🤣🤣little grot bags!!

deviantfeline · 27/09/2024 04:03

Thanks @mynxy but anything that involves 'Botox to the sphincter' is a hard no from me.

Vates · 27/09/2024 05:47

Escalators and heights in general. Came on suddenly in my late 20's. I didn't feel fear but now get a very physical reaction (dizzy, legs like jelly, etc). Escalators are the worst for me as I just get the overwhelming need to sit down so I can feel stable. Not keen but can go in lifts. I always choose the stairs where possible.

I am another person who hates the phone. I write out a script and still get flustered. The only person where I get no fear when speaking to is my (only) friend. Even family members names flashing up on my phone make me wince and think 'just text me instead!'. My God Mother said I sound like I'm being held hostage when we're speaking on the phone.

Another random one is butter in sandwiches, absolutely hate it and have since I was little. I think I was about 4/5 when I asked my Mum not to use butter in my sandwiches. I can't stand the thought of it mixing with the contents of the sandwich.

banjaxedeejit · 27/09/2024 06:33

Poo in public toilets

Hobnobjob · 27/09/2024 06:34

I can't draw at all. I also never was able to learn to tie my shoelaces the proper way

puzzlesandactivediscussions · 27/09/2024 06:35

Ride a bike, I just have never been able to master it either as a child or an adult.

puzzlesandactivediscussions · 27/09/2024 06:37

Or work out any sequences, once I get past 2,4,6,8… I’m done.

the80sweregreat · 27/09/2024 06:54

Apart from very basic maths percentages baffle me and fractions. Wished I was better with numbers / maths all round :(

Zevitevitchofcrimas · 27/09/2024 07:26

Same op re car passenger

Sometime I have to jump out of a lift if too many people pile in, the short lift journey I could do but I always think, if this lift goes, I could be stuck indefinitely with this lot.

Putting my bare hand on any public service rails or hand rails.

Being in a room at any time of year with window shut and zero ventilation.

Sharing drinks bottles I don't allow my own children to share esp as you never know if one is incubation something.

dramafarm · 27/09/2024 07:41

I can't envision any kind of building plan or layout unless I actually see it. When we were planning an extension I couldn't see in my mind how it would look. DH and the builder were discussing where doors and walls would be but I couldn't see it at all. I normally have a very good imagination and can decorate a room in my mind, but not conjure the dimensions, never mind where the pipes and electrical points would go!
When we were viewing house floor plans online (we never did get the extension but chose to move instead) I couldn't make sense of them. I think my brain just isn't wired that way.

plasticmack · 27/09/2024 09:52

I can't visualise a route, even one that I have taken daily for years and years.
People will say stuff like " you know, past..., on the left" and I'll just pretend to know what they are talking about because they just can't fathom not knowing it.

I know it only in the instance that I am there, but I wouldn't know where am in relation to other parts of the route.

I also cannot follow directions in real time. I take far too long to interpret them and then make a decision. If I drive anywhere new I tend to have to make multiple stops on the way, reassess calmly and attempt to memorise the next turns.

Makes life difficult☹️

Cattery · 27/09/2024 10:10

I too have never understood maths. The numbers mean nothing to me. Can’t draw either

the80sweregreat · 27/09/2024 13:12

Directions baffle me too and I'm almost sure I have some form of ADHD with how bad I am at such basic things sometimes. Not diagnosed though

Latest figures suggest that 1 in 20 of us has ADHD. As a woman diagnosed with Autism, Dyspraxia and ADHD, I always read these threads and feel that a lot of typically Neurodivergent traits come up. At the very least, some people sound like they may be Dyspraxic.

Howdiditgetsobad · 27/09/2024 19:47

@RainbowZebraWarrior i think this is so true. My mum, sister and brother all can’t drive. My sister and I are VERY independent and determined people and we both got our licenses but haven’t driven much and I am pretty sure we all have adhd. We all struggle with anxiety and focus in a combination that makes driving impossible.
