bloomberrys · 22/09/2024 20:06

I have been to London once in 40 years.
I haven't been in 20 years.
Is it worth a visit ?
Thinking of going for 2 nights at the weekend.
Thinking of going to see wicked at the Apollo then the Sunday doing touristy things.
Is it worth a visit ?

corlan · 22/09/2024 20:08

Don't bother -there's nothing here

Chateauneufdu · 22/09/2024 20:10

Nothing to see here

sonjadog · 22/09/2024 20:11

No, stay at home. Nothing in London worth seeing at all. That's why there are so few tourists there.

bloomberrys · 22/09/2024 20:11

Bloody hell can't be that bad 😂

MissMoneyFairy · 22/09/2024 20:11

No, there's nothing to do, stay at home and watch the telly.

TheaBrandt · 22/09/2024 20:12

It’s not like it’s a global city or anything

afrikat · 22/09/2024 20:12

Nah, it's shit. Not a thing to do

bloomberrys · 22/09/2024 20:12

Can nobody answer a question without being sarcastic

OP posts:
TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 22/09/2024 20:12

No, it’s shite.

No history, no restaurants, no interesting people.

What are you interested in? Galleries, exhibitions, museums, churches, history, shopping?

ObliviousCoalmine · 22/09/2024 20:12

No I was there last weekend and couldn't move for tumbleweeds.

HoppityBun · 22/09/2024 20:13

No. Nothing there of any interest to any sentient being.

TheaBrandt · 22/09/2024 20:13

It’s just such a silly question op.

RainintheDesert · 22/09/2024 20:13

I've lived here since 1997 and although the COL is slowly squeezing me out, I still find things I haven't seen before.

If I were you I'd go out of mere curiosity. Recently I took a trip to Birmingham just because I hadn't been for 20 years, and I enjoyed myself immensely.

bloomberrys · 22/09/2024 20:14

How is it a silly question ?
I haven't been in 20 years
I have visited other uk cities
I'm asking if it's worth the extra journey

TheaBrandt · 22/09/2024 20:16

Umm - yes?! We are 100 odd miles away and go around every 3 months or so.

Depends on what you enjoy, obviously London as our capital city has something for everyone, seeing Wicked is just a few hours but there's so much to do and see away from the tourist attractions,

Singleandproud · 22/09/2024 20:20

People are being sarcastic because it's a daft question. I'd book more than one night if you want value for money. I love London regularly travel there for work and often travel the morning before and book myself the afternoon off and a hotel to do some solo site seeing.

Tower of London is great.
Tate Modern is great for a wonderful around the free exhibits and Yoko Ono has a paid one on ATM.
National Portrait gallery - we enjoyed the Tudor wives exhibit recently
National Gallery has a Van Gogh exhibit soon
Wicked isn't my favourite musical but go for it.
British museum has a lot of history but did leave me with a bitter taste in my mouth in that there is so much there that should be returned and replicas put in place particularly the mummified bodies.

If you are into gardens hop on the train from Waterloo to Richmond to Kew, not sure how that looks this time of year though.

EmeraldRoulette · 22/09/2024 20:23

@bloomberrys what’s your reason for asking? I mean, if you’re comparing it to other options, looking at costs etc for a weekend away

I’m a recent leaver and I’m so over it but things like the National Gallery are still fantastic, Hampstead is still lovely. How long is your journey going to be? I think London was far nicer 20 years ago, even 10 years ago, but some people will say it hasn’t changed at all.

a lot of tourist areas have been on my no go list for years.

I still have to go once a month or so for work, am in and out as fast as possible. Hate the Tube so don’t bother venturing to the bits I like - just do my meeting, walk from mainline station, get it done and go home.

NoGwenItsABoxingDayTrifle · 22/09/2024 20:23

Depends on what you enjoy, I was in London for a few days last week and I went to The British Museum and also spent a morning in Greenwich, The park, observatory, Cutty Sark and Market are a good way to spend a few hours. There's also a banging pie and mash shop.

Paisleydad · 22/09/2024 20:24

Covid memorial wall opposite The Houses of Parliament.

Sky Garden.

A ride on the Docklands Light Railway (get to sit at the front if you can).

The Tate Modern or The Tate.

Postman's Park.

MouseofCommons · 22/09/2024 20:25

yy, Tower of London is wonderful. (Wrap up if it's cold though as the wind tears in from the Thames and it will be bitter).

London Museum in Docklands is great.
British Museum, fascinating, but mostly stolen.
Westminster and Horseguards great for a wander. The pelicans in St James Park are worth a look. WW2 war rooms also in the same street.

We go often and still haven't done everything.

tinytemper66 · 22/09/2024 20:26

Always...

bloomberrys · 22/09/2024 20:26

@EmeraldRoulette it's 3 1/2 hour train journey for me
It's over £140 so wanted to make sure before I booked
