Is London worth a visit?

I have been to London once in 40 years.
I haven't been in 20 years.
Is it worth a visit ?
Thinking of going for 2 nights at the weekend.
Thinking of going to see wicked at the Apollo then the Sunday doing touristy things.
Is it worth a visit ?

Eh? Because the reason the OP asked was due to the cost being over £140 and she wanted to make sure it was worth it.

Her whole reason for posting. I book lots of travel and am quite sure that she can get it much cheaper.

Why are you so bothered @NigelHarmansNewWife

God I love London.

I personally would pick a different area to stay. The Covent Garden Travelodge was a go-to for me as it's so incredibly central, but a lot of Travelodges look very tired just at the moment. Haven't stayed thre for about 6 years though. The King's Cross Premier Inns are much newer, but I say Inns because there are about 4 in a few hundred yards, make sure you know which one you've booked!

On Saturday I'm seeing Coriolanus at the National Theatre for £20 and going to the Silk Road exhibition for 'free' as we're British Museum members. If I'm going for cheaper but still interesting I will look for 'highlights' guided or audio tours which most of the big museums do for nothing. London is imo a lot more fun if you embrace booking things.

Given your collective preferences I would do something like go to the Royal Academy first then shop around the streets off Piccadilly including Piccadilly Arcade (window shopping only for me but it's unique) and Fortnum and Mason plus all the designer stuff up Old Bond Street, and a cocktail at the Ritz, because why the fuck not.

Sorry, I meant Burlington Arcade.

Covent Garden is fantastic for shopping and street performers. We enjoyed Wicked.

I always stay at the Clayton in Chiswick as it is just off the M4 and is so easy to walk to Gunnersby tube and catch the district line into Central London

@bloomberrys sign up for Trainline alerts and buy your tickets 13 weeks before travel (not always available but generally). The initial prices from Newcastle to London are around £45-55 with a railcard.

There is currently a flash sale on Trip for the Two Together railcard (or any railcard) so might be worth getting now. You get other offers and discounts with a railcard too.

There's the National Express option, takes double the amount of time but around £25 return if you like a coach journey!

If your train stops at kings Cross I'd stay in a hotel near there, there's premier inn, trave l lodge, loads of hotels all really near the station. It's on all the tube lines and there are buses every direction. I wouldn't go to Queens way or Notting hill, it's OK on Saturday market day. Kings Cross has granary square with shops, cafe, fountains, the bus goes up the hill to Islington. The other direction will take you towards Hyde and regents park and Paddington which is great to visit. You're also near the British museum, Covent garden, it's the best place to stay if you want to be central.
