The dreaded reorg meeting invite which includes HR

I know this won't answer any question but just need to get it out. Worked late online tonight and a meeting invite for tomorrow with the head head of the entire organisation came thro. Says its mandatory and confidential. Trying to stay centered and not get anxious, it is what it is at this stage.

Hope it has went well!

I've been there twice. The perk is, if you've been there a long time, you'll get a significant redundancy package - a chance to look elsewhere with some breathing space.

I remember desperately wanting to leave an org but feeling so stuck as I couldn't secure another role for a while. I just about had enough and was going to hand my notice in with no other job secured, but a meeting came up and I was made redundant with a healthy pay out. I got a new job six weeks later. Happy days.

Hope it’s gone ok?

MounjaroUser · 18/09/2024 18:30

I really hope you got the result you wanted, OP.

ToBeOrNotToBeWhoKnows · 18/09/2024 18:46

OK I'm back. It's a complete reorg and I move roles away from my lovely boss. No redundancies as of now. Looks like there's still a lot to be thought out re who is doing what. For now I still have a job. Redundancy would have been OK too.

Thank you to everyone who has messaged since last night. No words for how much I appreciate it. The alternative ways of looking at it and how it has worked for others was so helpful. xxxx

That's great news for everyone, OP. Shame about not working with your lovely boss, but you can still keep in touch.

BotterMon · 18/09/2024 18:53

Well it's good news but thinking about alternatives may have given you other options if you're not happy with the new structure. Fingers crossed it all work out for you.

Glittertwins · 18/09/2024 18:59

So no huge worries in the short term. Hope it works out with a new boss (I've had plenty of them in the past 5 years) and it's usually easy to find a new job whilst still in job should the worst happen. Hope you get more sleep tonight.

Glad to hear - explore options and be one step ahead of them!

As PPs have said, I have gone through this many times now, in my first company they invited everyone into a room, said they where looking at redundancies but certain roles where safe, then if your name was called out you where to leave the room as you where not at risk - excruciating…

All the other times you was given one of two group invites - if you was on the first invite you where being given bad news and if you was on the second it was for information purposes. All times I have been the “safe” group but it’s awful seeing your colleagues go through the process

Thevelvelletes · 19/09/2024 07:27

That's a brutal process,I've saw it three times didn't survive the 3rd but what disgusted me where those that tried to get line manager's ear and the one's who openly slagged others off , useless, does nothing etc.

God, sounds like X Factor or BGT!

ToBeOrNotToBeWhoKnows · 19/09/2024 12:40

Brutal is the right word. I have been involved in multiple reorgs but this was closest. We were certain there were job losses and thankfully none for now. From a HR perspective it was the worst experience by far. Much more focus on resources and little on human sadly. There's no perfect way but this was brutal, entire teams disbanded and the head of team found out their team was gone in a large meeting.
