The dreaded reorg meeting invite which includes HR

I know this won't answer any question but just need to get it out. Worked late online tonight and a meeting invite for tomorrow with the head head of the entire organisation came thro. Says its mandatory and confidential. Trying to stay centered and not get anxious, it is what it is at this stage.

Hopefully you get the result you want.
Hate how companies play with people's lives. The mental wellbeing matter's is only a box ticking exercise in most companies and goes out the window when redundancy rears it's ugly head.

Pearl97 · 18/09/2024 06:10

Thinking of you today. I wish they would do these meetings first thing with very little notice. So annoying for you to have to wait and worry all day xx

Skate76 · 18/09/2024 06:13

It sounds like it's going to be an 'at risk ' meeting where they inform you their considering redundancies, they'll then start a consultation process, it takes some time no-one is let go straight away 🎉

Netaporter · 18/09/2024 06:21

Hope you got some sleep @ToBeOrNotToBeWhoKnows

The issue with reorgs is the procedure you have to follow in order to not end up in a tribunal - and whilst from a corporate protection pov it is sensible, from an employee pov it is unfortunate you have to put people you want to keep through a stressful process. Having been through it a couple of times and come out each time with a better job and salary, it ended up ok.

I’d take comfort from the fact that the meeting invite came through so late because they are not trying to stress you unnecessarily. I’m not sure what manifesting actually entails but I’m wishing you luck for today and hope it is the outcome you want.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/09/2024 06:28

Hope you managed to get some sleep, OP.

When I had one of these meetings it turned out to be a confidential meeting for my entire department where we learned that our managers had managed to negotiate all of us a significant pay rise but we were sworn to secrecy because other departments weren't getting it.

Hopefully it's that rather than a redundancy consultation.

Clearinguptheclutter · 18/09/2024 06:37

Same happening at our work we were called in at 15 mins notice last week

yes it’s redundancies but most (not all 😔) of us are staying for now it seems

I’ve been the wrong side of it in the past- was awful and I was furious at the time as had been in same company for over a decade and given it everything.
However I am now pleased I got kicked out of that hellhole. Sometimes these things can be a blessing.

ItWillBeDone · 18/09/2024 06:38

Good luck for the meeting OP.

Galliano · 18/09/2024 06:40

This is always hanging over me and so regular where I work the big group meetings with HR etc are a thing of the past and it’s just your manager who reads you a script 1-1. I’ve seen people react with real distress and I think I’d struggle and it would feel like a massive personal rejection. My DH, close colleagues and friends are all primed to talk me down so I don’t rush to another role. At a similar age to you I would want to change direction and do something different with my life. Whatever happens don’t react too hastily, give yourself time to recover from the initial shock and then reflect on how you want the next few years to be and whether you have an opportunity.

countrygirl99 · 18/09/2024 06:46

Am or pm? If it's pm there's a chance your being notified of changes affecting others in the team. Good luck whichever way it goes. Just been through the process myself.

tanstaafl · 18/09/2024 08:33

If they wanted 15% reduction in roles and were looking at doing that with voluntary redundancies, would you volunteer OP?

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 18/09/2024 08:54

Good luck. I'm currently in the process of being made redundant.

I have found a new job to go to, better money, better bonus, better holidays. Plus two years salary lump sum.

Try and see it as an opportunity.

Startingagainandagain · 18/09/2024 08:58

OP whatever happens after 15 years you should get a decent redundancy package if they need to let staff go.

They might be offering voluntary redundancies at this stage.

ToBeOrNotToBeWhoKnows · 18/09/2024 10:21

Thanks everyone, all the messages have been so lovely and supportive. Don't gave anyone who gets it to talk to so your messages are appreciated.

So it's 5pm today. It's an international team so think they were trying to accommodate everyone. Gut feeling is it's a reorg with applying for roles and redundancy also. A lot of activities have been outsourced last few years so technically fewer internal roles needed and also cheaper. In theory I'd be happy with redundancy, we needed by job financially for years but less so now. I'm not a make it happen person so having this job was easy and i worry redundancy would see me stuck at home and getting more and more unhappy.

Gosh it's hard to concentrate on anything today!

Does your company provide any ooutplacement service? Mine paid for a number of sessions with an adviser. I didn't use it as I was using the package to retire early but colleagues who did found it useful for focusing, getting their cv into the current preferred fashion and understanding the latest fashions in applications and key words.

Clearinguptheclutter · 18/09/2024 11:44

There might be attractive voluntary packages. That’s a good thing, even if you don’t go for it some inevitably will which will equate to less compulsory

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 18/09/2024 12:30

Good luck today OP. Always hard to have these meetings but when I've been in your situation, I try and think 'wait and see what is said'.

dollybird · 18/09/2024 12:42

Good luck for the meeting today 🍀 Been there lots of times working for a large insurer. Multiple mergers and reorgs meant months of uncertainty at a time. Only once was I directly affected (3 roles going down to 2), but have seen so many friends and colleagues go through redundancy. I kept my role that one time, but moved internally within six months and my career took a new (better) direction. Left that co 7 years ago, and now working in a role at a level that makes me happy.

ToBeOrNotToBeWhoKnows · 18/09/2024 13:05

More replies, thanks so much. Just a few hours to go. What will be will be, I have no influence over their decisions. After all this life might be a slightly different version or very different version of today.

Sometimes things do happen for a reason …. It’s not always easy to see it at the time. We are all in your shoulder today x

ToBeOrNotToBeWhoKnows · 18/09/2024 15:33

Still here. 1.5 hours to go!!!

Glittertwins · 18/09/2024 15:37

Good luck, hope it works out for you

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 18/09/2024 16:51

Ugh it's torture waiting all day for a meeting like that. Fingers crossed for you.

hopeishere · 18/09/2024 17:19

So mean to hold that at the end of the day. Am sure productivity is way down.

Ilikewinter · 18/09/2024 17:29

I guess your in the meeting now ..... good luck!

Dunk19 · 18/09/2024 17:34

Good luck, try not to panic if it is redundancy, I've been there and so glad it happened in the end, it took me in a whole new direction.
