...how would you allocate them? Like, 70% brains, 30% looks?

I'd like to bet Margot Robbie and other women named are very, very smart.

Oh sure. Being beautiful doesn’t imply stupidity and being clever doesn’t imply not being good looking.

I think extremely smart people tend not to be very happy. Genius is associated with higher risk of mental health problems.

Assuming 100 brains = Nobel prize leve and 100 looks = supermodel.

0 brains = struggling with day to day life and 0 looks = you scare children.

On that basis I'd go 70 brains 30 looks. Moderately above and below average. I care about my inner life more than my outer seeming.

This is with the proviso that you can improve appearance by taking care of yourself and dressing well. Intelligence also needs the drive to match so you couldn't just coast.

Not in the spirit of it all but surely if you were brainy (enough) you'd know that both scores are independent.

E.g. very brainy (100%) and average looking (50%)

The thread title is: If you had 100 points to be divided between looks and brains for yourself so you can't give yourself 100 for one and 50 for the other.

75% Brains
25% Looks

fortheveryfirsttime · 17/09/2024 20:29

Is this based on improving your existing self?

If so I'd go 80% looks, 20% brains as I'm already fairly clever and don't have a huge need to get more brainy at this point as I'm done with school/uni and have the job I want.

Babbahabba · 17/09/2024 21:00

I'd never heard of Rose Byrne but the internet says she has a maths degree from Oxford. Rachel Riley is a good actress and has never come across as particularly dumb? Two odd examples.

PickAChew · 17/09/2024 21:13

Ooh, I'd say 20 points for looks, 70 for brains and another 10 that vanished down the back of the sofa during menopause.

ooooohnoooooo · 18/09/2024 08:31

Well im gorgeous and clever so
100% brains
100% looks.

Also am Brilliant at maths 😬

bengalcat · 18/09/2024 08:33

I know it's only a hypothetical, and lighthearted question, but I do think this question plays into the idea that women can't be both attractive and clever. That somehow it's a payoff between the two.

Yes, it's a silly question.

Really attractive people - of either sex - are usually also clever.

lljkk · 18/09/2024 09:21

Suppose the question was more real... it related to how much of their "designer baby budget" you had to spend on your first baby before they were born (in an alt universe where that's possible).

Or you can imagine the question was for your parents.

The situation is that Your looks or brains are random genes from the parents, unless someone spends the budget to tweak the choices. In this scenario, it's socially normal and everyone does it, spends what they can. The genes for brains or looks don't interfer with each other but they are different ones to target, they get targetted in different purchase options (packages).

So how do you want your parents to spend their money on creating you, given the money will be spent so leaving it all to chance is not an option. And Ditto for your kids.

My answer in all cases is 80% brains & 20% looks. My logic being that the 20% can be used to especially prevent any really ugly features, rather than ensuring beauty. The 80% can also prevent neurological disabilities as well as provide high intelligence.

Or in OP's scenario, maybe the 20% just scrapes me into the "tolerable" category while the 80% brains puts me firmly in the useful opportunities life can be interesting category.
