If you had 100 points to be divided between looks and brains for yourself...

...how would you allocate them? Like, 70% brains, 30% looks?

But that's not the point of the question :)

I know but my brain cannot abide inaccurate measures and my mirrors cannot abide my face 🙂

Spomb · 17/09/2024 15:37

100 brains. I could then make my fortune and pay to look however I wanted!

mellowfell · 17/09/2024 15:37

NuffSaidSam · 17/09/2024 14:51

80% looks, 20% brains would make you the happiest I think.

Or maybe 100% brains because if you're very successful it doesn't matter what you look like. But this may only be true for men.

And then make so much money to improve your looks.

Deliiciousllydifffident · 17/09/2024 15:38

100% brains.

BellesAndGraces · 17/09/2024 15:40

ManchesterGirl2 · 17/09/2024 15:33

You must be pretty, I'm never told this by strangers!

I’m not looking for validation from men* but I find it interesting that it’s only ever women who compliment me on my looks!

*I am a little bit because I’m human lol

GalaticalFarce · 17/09/2024 15:12

Gosh I wonder what 0% on looks would actually look like? Deformed hunchback?
I have to know this before I give my answer.

I was quite brainy... 😧

👏👏👏

ItGhoul · 17/09/2024 16:11

I'd go 85% brains, 15% looks.

The thing about looks is that looks are very easily enhanced and the way people perceive attractiveness is influenced by a lot of additional things that aren't actually about your physical attributes. Charisma and behaviour can make a big difference to the way people perceive your appearance.

Frowningprovidence · 17/09/2024 16:13

I'd go 60% looks 40% brains. I have a lot of very clever people in my mums family and they haven't been particularly happy or succesful.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 17/09/2024 16:15

I think I’d go for 60 brains 40 looks.
id annoy myself if I was dense

Polyp0 · 17/09/2024 16:17

I know it's only a hypothetical, and lighthearted question, but I do think this question plays into the idea that women can't be both attractive and clever. That somehow it's a payoff between the two.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 17/09/2024 16:17

Hmmm. Maybe 70% brains 30% looks
Definitely not less than 70% brains.

GalaticalFarce · 17/09/2024 16:36

@JosephMerrick did I misunderstand the question? Maybe I'm not brainy but I don't get these percentages.
If you're average looking, then you're 50%. If you're quite clever and went to university then brains must be 80%.
It just doesn't add up. It only leaves 20% for looks.

WolfFoxHare · 17/09/2024 16:44

Depends on my age, I think. 80/20 brains/looks at school and uni for exams, then a gorgeous 20/80 for a few years in my twenties, to bag a partner and breed, then back to 60/40 in my thirties to really advance my career. Women are practically invisible by the time they’re middle aged anyway so maybe 90/10 from my fifties onwards, on a sort of ‘when I’m old I shall wear purple’ principle.

unsync · 17/09/2024 17:09

What about if you're just fucking awesome, couldn't give a shit what anyone thinks and knows your own worth?

I think I'm on about 98% brains. It clearly hasn't done me any favours.

Kendodd · 17/09/2024 17:40

Rummly · 17/09/2024 14:58

What does x% mean?

100% looks = Margot Robbie?

100% brains = Marie Curie?

50% looks = ?

50% brains = ?

But since I am regularly mistaken for Margot Robbie and have the brains of Marie Curie, I’m indifferent.

If only.

I'd like to bet Margot Robbie and other women named are very, very smart.

unsync · 17/09/2024 17:41

Curiossir · 17/09/2024 17:29

Then you don't need to post.

That's so sad, I just wish every woman could feel this way about themselves.

I agree. I don't think it's just women who are judged in this way though. The bumbling professor is a male example of this idea.
It works the other way as well. Plenty of people have neither brains nor beauty Grin

Kendodd · 17/09/2024 17:45

Interesting question though OP so don't let us stop the flow.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 17/09/2024 17:50

50 50

ScarlettSunset · 17/09/2024 17:57

As these are the only scores to choose from, and assuming 50/50 means average for both, I'd probably choose 60% looks and 40% brains.
Pretty much anything above average looks would surely be 'attractive' and teamed with still enough intelligence to know how to use the advantage the above average looks give.

Filingmyshoes · 17/09/2024 18:00

Depends on lots of things

What sort of smart? If you don’t have any emotional intelligence you’d be pretty lonely

I would not want to be lonely, I wouldn’t want people letching over me constantly, I wouldn’t want to get addicted to the attention good looks gave me for it all to stop as I aged

So I think for me probably 55% brains and 45% looks would be about right - assuming I lived to a ripe old age. If I was to die at 40 I’d go 90% looks.

Mymanyellow · 17/09/2024 18:02

I’ve always said I’d rather be clever than pretty. ( one or the other would be nice!)
So 70/30 for me I think.
