Recently for first time did a m&s shop and I've eaten half what I normally eat as I seem to be full for longer after eating the same meals I woukd normally eat and I barely even have much of an appetite. Could this really be Down to higher quality and fresher food and less chemicals making me require and desire less food

It's psychological in the main but if it works for you stick with it!! I await your thread when you discover Waitrose Grin

Nup. Waitrose doesn’t cut it.

I can confirm that there are products that are supplied to many supermarkets that are actually more or less the same, it's just a price difference and packaging.

I'm intrigued by the rat made child veg tray bake.

Me too 🤣

Mansionscoldandgrey · 16/09/2024 21:09

I know exactly what you mean. I could only manage to eat half of their Trifle Caked Alaska 😋

Mansionscoldandgrey · 16/09/2024 21:11

At least DH managed the other half

To all that are saying stuff is same factory same quality e.t.c it's really or not. I have shopper asda and aldi my whole life. Now I have money decided to switch to m&s thinking it was not even gonna be much different but it really is the quality is way nicer on most things not everything but at least 80-90%. Also, it's not even that much more expensive just buying a basic ingredient shop, if you throw in some premium ready meals and biscuits/snacks it can rack thr price up quickly as these can be expensive.

I'm afraid you are wrong OP. It's why Aldi and Lidl often do so well in taste tests. They really are made in the same factories. What premium ranges of food do sometimes is specify a higher percentage of meat or vegetables than a lower cost range. But a ready meal is a ready meal regardless of whether it has M&S labelling.

I'd get canny at reading labels, you might be able to work out when you've been had.

PickAChew · 16/09/2024 21:22

I think Waitrose curries tend to be nicer than M&S and their meat and poultry on a par but markses does have the edge on quality and freshness.

I don't rate Waitrose veg at all. It's no better or fresher than Sainsbury's, which I have right on my doorstep. I've given up adding it to online orders unless in a pinch.

It all pales into insignificance compared to the delight that is BOOTH'S...

OneBadKitty · 16/09/2024 21:29

You had two small chicken tenders which filled you up for the entire day? And you think it's because M&S have some sort of superior chickens? So funny!

I think you're probably ill OP.

… you definitely removed the packaging? !

@Livedandlearned

I'm intrigued by the rat made child veg tray bake.

I reckon it's ratatouille - but could be wrong.

I think food is prepped in the same factories but M&S & Waitrose use better cuts of meat & also the shelf life of the fruit is longer. If I could afford to I would do all my shopping in M&S & Waitrose.

I don't think you would stay full longer though. Surely you want to eat more as it's so nice 😊

Even today I had just 2 small chicken tenders from m&s for lunch no breakfast and I'm not even eating any dinner as I just have no appetite

That's probably under 300 calories you've had today.

newtlover · 16/09/2024 21:41

Ah yes Booths...
the best cheese counter you will ever find, and the cheese wrapped in a tasteful brown paper origami parcel by an attentive young man who can discuss the various merits of nine different lancashire cheeses...

Onand · 16/09/2024 21:47

There’s a huge difference in quality, that’s why it is more expensive than Tesco Aldi etc. If you’re used to eating poor quality processed foods laden with additives and chemicals then it’s possibly a reason why the M&S food is satiating you more.

My DH jokes that I have M and S shares. He calls a visit there “ driving up the value of our secret investment.”

At least I hope he is joking or he will pretty disappointed at some point. 🙁

May I advise you to try and improve your jokes 😃

Do you have any sources of these taste tests

But you can't say that all food in Tesco is the same. Similar to Sainsbury's, they have different ranges and some are better quality than others.

I think it's more likely that you're coming down with something. We get a lot of M&S food and I don't find it remarkably different in quality to other supermarkets.

This. Some things may be slightly better quality from m&s, some things are not. Perhaps you are coming down with something

Moresummertimes · 16/09/2024 22:08

I think it depends what you’re buying. Some things are better quality, but I’m always on the lookout for nutritional value. Tinned sardines, jam packed, with olive oil, only 80p. Leaves with a long best before date, fresh mixed tomatoes - yellow stickered, a bag of ripen at home avocados. Love the big bags of mixed nuts and mixed fruit and nuts, the dark chocolate bars and the medjool dates. Never any waste with M&S food. It always gets eaten, feels like a treat and is more filling if you shop for nutritional value.

I worked in a factory on leaving school that supplied 'the same' foods to different supermarkets. They produced it in different batches though and the quality varied massively depending what the company had paid for/requested. Just because something is prepared in the same place doesn't mean the product is the same

MerryMarys · 17/09/2024 07:17

If you're full from 2 small chicken tenders per day then you must be coming down with a cold/flu!

Ozanj · 17/09/2024 07:20

Their ready meals are balanced and more calorie dense as they design them with the elderly in mind. So you get a lot of calories (and protein) and real food in a smaller portion.

Crikeyalmighty · 17/09/2024 07:41

@liveforsummer exactly-there used to be particular 'runs' for a particular client - same production place- varying product. I had an ex who worked at one.
