Vinted - So toxic!

Just that really. Is it just me or has anyone else had a horrendous experience of Vinted? I sell a lot of baby, toddler and young children clothes, have done okay, never had an issue until this last week. It’s as if all the buyers have turned into massive CFs.

People asking to send straight after they’ve bought! Being called a C**t because their payment didn’t go through so they missed out on a well sought after item of clothing. People trying to scam, messages of abuse when declining ridiculous offers, and I mean ridiculous!

Think I might have to call it a day on there, but just wondered if anyone’s noticed this more recently or is it just me???

Ive just joined Vinted and bought my first item . It was something I ve been looking for on ebay for ages but there s so much more on Vinted . Probably will carry on selling on ebay though

garlicandsapphires · 16/09/2024 19:55

My first experience of vinted as a buyer was negative.
Bought a ‘new with tags’ swimsuit that arrived without tags. Seller agreed to a partial refund but this never materialised.
Their previous reviews mentioned similar problems (missing tags on ‘new’ items)
They seemed not to know how to issue a refund and asked for my PayPal but still no refund. They were rude as well.

garlicandsapphires · 16/09/2024 19:57

Also do most buyers collect items rather than have posted to their home address? The window for collection seems quite small.

Toomanytesticles · 16/09/2024 20:04

Yup, it’s awful. One of the worst was I bought a baby bouncer when expecting my first DS… got sent a paper plate instead.

hormones made me cry over that bloody bouncer!

CornflakeGirl18 · 16/09/2024 20:06

Most of my selling experiences have been fine but I have been requested to 'hold' an item until the buyer got paid (£4 selling price) and of course they never came back to buy it.

AutumnalSunshineXX · 16/09/2024 20:10

You can block people on there op.

How sodding cheeky is that?? Absolute piss-taker.

I’ve just declined an offer for one of my items from a seller with 3 star average reviews. Offer wasn’t massively unreasonable but she’d clearly messed so many other buyers and sellers around before I wasn’t having it. Who needs that hassle.

I’ve used Vinted almost since it started and have only had to block one person who send me an insane raving rant when I put an offer in. Only after getting over
my shock did I check her “about” tab where she’d written a very similar blurb saying NO OFFERS, NONE, YOU’RE ALL TIGHT BASTARDS” or some such rubbish. She was something else. I do check now though before I put offers in.

Drfosters · 16/09/2024 20:22

So far I don’t think I’ve had much interaction with any buyer. They either buy or put in an offer. I haven’t ever got into any chit chat with anyone! No one has complained about anything. I do photograph everything as I am packing it up just in case but so far not needed it.

MissRachelismycoparent · 16/09/2024 18:14

I decline a lot of cheeky offers. For example a £35 coat new with tags on for £6 and people offering £2.50. Never had anyone rude... yet. I do think it's lost it's shine though

I thought you can only offer 40% below asking price? Mine only lets me anyway. I often do offer at whatever the 60% of asking price is. It's not cheeky, people can say no if they like.

80smonster · 16/09/2024 20:28

Only dealt with lovely buyers and sellers. Yes people have made cheeky offers, but I’m under no obligation to accept or respond.

Yes I thought the same.

typicaltuesdaynight · 16/09/2024 20:29

No I buy and sell loads I think you must be unlucky

Babybirdmum · 16/09/2024 20:32

I’ve nearly been scammed by a really cheap bag. They said they posted immediately at 10pm which got my alarm bells ringing so I reported it.

I also got a 0/10 rating review where someone warned others not to buy off me because I cancelled an order for a £2 item 😂

Charlize43 · 16/09/2024 20:39

I think it's because some charity shops sell very cheaply (like the Cats Protection, Marie Curie, etc) so it's not totally unusual to pick up a dress for £3.

I have a lovely vintage black wool 1950s 'New Look' Christian Dior suit (pinched waist, and long pencil skirt) that I picked up in a charity shop (pre Mary Portas, in Eltham, of all places!) for £25, that would be the type of thing that someone would be trying to sell on Vinted now for several £1000s.

I do think they are a bit precious on that site.

TinyGingerCat · 16/09/2024 20:46

I only sell on Vinted and have only had good experiences. However everything I sell is washed, ironed and wrapped in tissue before I send the same day. Worst thing that has ever happened was a buyer didn't collect a parcel as it got returned to me. I relisted and the same person bought it. I ignore offers I don't like.

ForKeenLimeOtter · 16/09/2024 20:47

People should be able to offer whatever they like - and I say that as a seller. It doesn't offend me, I either accept it or not, it's no hassle.

Vinted is great for ease of use but if anything goes wrong Vinted will rarely sort it, you just have to accept a much higher risk than with eBay.

What I especially hate is when I've bought something, the seller will cancel the sale and refund me, then they'll relist the item at a higher price. Perhaps because they know they can get more as they sold it so quickly. This has happened to me a few times now and it is infuriating.

They don't have to give a reason and you can't leave bad feedback.. just left without your money until Vinted get round to refunding it.

I've complained about this each time and every time customer service say if the seller keeps doing it they may get bad feedback.

eBay has much higher levels of accountability and any issues with sellers, their payment is put on hold until it's resolved.

Clumsy12345 · 16/09/2024 20:51

reading this it sounds like a you problem.

solice84 · 16/09/2024 20:54

I had my first bad experience recently too
Item arrived broken in flimsy package
Followed all the instructions for returns and paid for return postage
Seller then refused refund
Vinted were demanding I take photos of a parcel id already sent
It had me really stressed out but after I battled on for days with their bots I got a message from a real person and thankfully got my money back .

abcdmyusername · 16/09/2024 20:54

I haven't experienced that but I do have buyers constantly badger me within hours of their purchase asking when it will be posted or even what day to post it for them. Vinted gives you a time slot to post!

Idontevenknowmyname · 16/09/2024 20:59

I've only had good experiences as a buyer and seller, but also I tend to pay what they ask and anything I sell is pretty low value, and in perfect condition. Otherwise I don't bother.
I don't reserve things and I don't let idiots get to me. Start being gobby, they get blocked.
Posting is no issue, I only allow inpost and the lockers are opposite my house.
If I've had enough for a bit, or I'm going to be busy or away, I use holiday mode and hide it all.
I think a lot of people get very emotional about it all, either because they need the money or need the item as cheaply as possible. In the end it's just stuff.
But if it's not for you, that's ok too.

Prinnny · 16/09/2024 20:59

I think the customer service is crap. I reported a seller for selling fake Charlotte tilbury make up and Vinted responsed that they wouldn’t take action. Also I recently bought a new with tags dress that came not as described with what looked like old blood stains on and I had to pay to return the bloody thing which I found crazy but the Vinted obviously did not!

dutysuite · 16/09/2024 21:02

I only sell never buy and I’ve only had one issue where a woman sold me a sob story about her son really needing football boots and I ended up selling some very good condition football boots to her for a much cheaper price, I cleaned them up so well that she instantly put them on her own page for way more and listed them as ‘like new worn once in the garden!’, which of course was a lie. She obviously had form of conning people to sell their items cheaper for her to then resell for a profit because she had loads of football boots on her page. (I hadn’t looked prior to selling to her). Anyway, I reported her as this practice isn’t allowed on vinted and she was banned.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 16/09/2024 21:06

I buy and sell frequently and have never experienced any of this in the 2 years I've used it. I think you've had an unlucky spell, just block anyone who is unnecessarily rude and decline any silly offers.

Boohoo76 · 16/09/2024 21:06

There are some very rude buyers. I have had a few send me rude messages when I haven’t accepted their crazy low offers. One buyer messaged me yesterday telling me why she couldn’t accept my counter offer of £16 for an expensive pair of shoes that I have worn twice. She told me she’d got a cheaper pair on eBay. I checked eBay and the exact same pair of shoes were on there at £25 except that they weren’t in great condition and had a number of marks on them.

Why did she even bother messaging me. If you don’t want to accept the offer, ignore it!
