I normally have a rule of not before October, but I’ve crumbled recently, the house felt so damp.

Got it in at work, heated seats on in the car this morning and think it’ll be going on when I get home. It’s throwing it down and feels cold today 🥶

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 12/09/2024 08:27

It was so cold last night that my thermostat triggered the heating.

Roystonv · 12/09/2024 08:28

Not the heating yet but the electric blanket has been very welcome the last few nights.

fancyfrogs · 12/09/2024 08:29

Yes, mines on this morning. It was so cold overnight too ☹️

Decafflatteplease · 12/09/2024 08:29

Not yet although was tempted this morning. 16 degrees currently in our house, 9 degrees outside. We try to make it to October half term before it goes on but it's usually early October. I'm going to get the dehumidifier on today as that helps with the air feeling cold. Still got summer duvets on, need to make the big switch over soon to winter weight ones. 1800s house for reference so it's cold draughty and damp albeit beautiful!

Cherrysoup · 12/09/2024 08:32

Purely to check it was all fine after lots of plumber work yesterday, so this morning it was lovely in the lounge! The big rad in the lounge is finally working as it should.

Danikm151 · 12/09/2024 08:33

Nope but got the big coat out today and my son has a new hat and mittens!

Seymour5 · 12/09/2024 08:34

In our 70s, DH really feels the cold so he put it on yesterday morning, and it’s on now. We’ve paid over the odds all summer so we can have it on as we wish. We must have had a premonition!

Mindymomo · 12/09/2024 08:35

Adult DS worked from home on Tuesday, I came back from shopping mid morning to the heating being on, it did help drying some clothes which had been damp, but I then turned it off lunchtime. I think we are at the stage of having heating on morning and evening, just for a short time.

Beautifulbouquet · 12/09/2024 08:36

I live in a Caravan in the Welsh mountains and no. The coldest it has got at night is 8 degrees.

thenightsaredrawingin · 12/09/2024 08:40

No. Currently 16.5 degrees in the house. Plan to sit under my heated blanket whilst working today, rest if the time I will keep active.

Devilsmommy · 12/09/2024 08:41

Its been 7° overnight here so I've had it on because my toddler refuses to sleep with a duvet so have to have heating on. It's Definitely been needed

HappilyContentTheseDays · 12/09/2024 08:42

Yes, I've had it on every morning this week, and the hallway radiator is on all day now. It doesn't get very hot (something wrong with the system) but the hallway gets cold and the radiator just keeps it from being too chilly.

I prefer to go by the weather rather than the month of the year as my deciding factor - we live rurally so the temperatures already drop very low at night, we're expecting a ground frost tonight.
But by the weekend I believe it will be back up to 19 degrees, so winter hasn't quite arrived yet!

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 12/09/2024 08:42

DH cracked first and put it on last night, which amazed me as it’s not normally him that feels the cold.

Both DC off school with colds today and shivering under blankets, so have put it on for them.

marshmallowfinder · 12/09/2024 08:46

Op, you really need a dehumidifier if the house feels damp. It will warm the air a little too, as it dries it. Heating moisture filled air isn't at all efficient.

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 12/09/2024 08:54

Six degrees here this morning. Chucked myself in the north sea at sunrise.

The house now feels toasty in comparison 🤣

We don't have gas so it's a bit all or nothing with heating and it's not nearly cold enough to go all in.

longdistanceclaraclara · 12/09/2024 08:54

No we don't need it yet. It goes on when needed here not by what month it is. Might need to go on over the next few days to help get some washing dry.

We don't have a thermostat so no idea what the temp is inside.

reluctantbrit · 12/09/2024 09:04

I have a really bad cold, it's 16 degrees and despite blankets and tea/hot chocolate I am freezing.

So the heating is on to warm up the rooms a bit and I hope the weather forecast is correct and it will get warmer again.

YorkieTheRabbit · 12/09/2024 09:05

It’s been on the last three mornings and one evening this week.
It’s due to be down to 4 degrees tonight so it will be on again later.

allmycats · 12/09/2024 10:05

Wood burner on from 7pm yesterday. Outside got up to 11 degrees here yesterday and house was 15 degrees. I go by feeling not date for heating.

CalicoPusscat · 12/09/2024 11:12

Not the central heating but I have a little plug in heater which is tremendously effective so I've put that on a couple of times.

It's a sleep trap, you drift off without planning to if it's on 20 minutes.

MabelsBeats · 12/09/2024 11:16

Heated seats in the car these past few mornings (not needed the heated steering wheel… yet!)

At home, I’ve needed a hot water bottle the past two nights, and the children have got their Oodies out!

I am holding off on putting the heating on, but if it gets colder than this I may need to crack and put it on, but the expense!!

LBOCS2 · 12/09/2024 11:17

The thermostat will turn it on when it drops below 16°c in our house, but we're not there yet.

TheGoddessMinerva · 12/09/2024 11:22

Our house must have been cold this morning; the bathroom rad was on, and it cuts in at 14 degrees from 6 am.

We live in an inefficient but beautiful Victorian house. Next week I shall be swapping my summer linens for thermals.

AutumnFullMoon · 12/09/2024 11:32

We got the wood burners going last night to take the dank chill off the air. Little electric radiator on a timer comes on in the mornings in the bedroom as I get up in the small hours for work and it's chilly then! Old uninsulated house on the coast in west Wales... It can get cold feeling even if it's not cold temperatures with the incessant wind and mist/drizzle, and old stone walls aren't helpful
