We have an old cat who doesn’t shut up. Talks all the time.

We also had a feral cat living in our garden for years. Completely wild, you couldn’t pat him, he just growled even though he could clearly see I was giving him food and drink as I did several times a day. I think it was after three years, he was waiting in the same place in the garden and I opened the door and talked to him as always. Then out of nowhere, he looked at me and tried to meow. It was a very coarse and weird meow, but still. It was such a beautiful moment to me.

That's lovely 🥰

At what point would you have an exsanguinating patient and a jizzing fish in an operating theatre together.

Mumsnet comment of the week for me!

If you feel nauseous, place your finger horizontally between your upper lip and nose and press down.
As long as you're not sick with food poisoning or a bug, this really helps nausea. From migraine, tiredness, anxiety, hangover etc.
I could not believe it. I used to get physically sick really easily but this helps so much.

It will also stop you from sneezing

That’s gorgeous. My heart is full! We have a similar situation - skinny boy who only ever hissed (and in a bit of a pathetic way as was very thin to start with). It’s been 16 months of putting food down in the garden, then retreating and giving space… he’s asleep in a chair on the verandah as we speak (that we put a blanket on to make him more comfortable) and meows very heartily for food every time he turns up and I can’t count his ribs anymore because he’s getting regular nutrition. Semi-feral Cyril we call him!

  • Oasis have reformed.
  • VAT will soon be charged on school fees.

Just a couple of facts that I thought had slipped under the radar on MN.

lol!

Oh that’s lovely. Poor cats. Our lived in our garden and veranda for nearly 10 years. He must have been young when he first found us during summer. I tried everything, but he stayed feral. He had his own chair and blanket too.

Give semi-feral Cyril some extra good food from me.

Gawjus · 13/09/2024 20:17

The word "impostor" is spelt like that. Almost every time I see it written it is misspelt as "imposter".

To give an idea of planets and distance, Say the earth and sun are fruits eg a plum and a watermelon and distance-wise relative to each other they are in the same small room here in the UK. Guess where the next nearest fruit sun/star system is? South Africa.

Aww, bless him and you! Yes poor cats, it’s a tough life. I definitely will, might even sneak him a Dreamie or two too!

skyfalldown · 13/09/2024 20:21

Gases from decomposing bodies can build up so much in above-ground crypts that the chambers explode. To get around this, caskets have been designed with seals that give way slightly and allow the coffin to 'burp' - which is the real term for it. Well-constructed masoleums also have ventilation and drainage to catch any 'seepage'

Wombat poo is cube shaped. I don’t imagine that is terribly comfy on the way out.

Reminds me of Richard Briers in The Good Life (70s sitcom), who told Felicity Kendal, or maybe Penelope Keith, about "the Ooh Aah bird, so-called because it lays square eggs".
Still makes me laugh, though I am easily amused...

The bestselling crime novelist, Ann Perry, committed a murder in her youth in New Zealand. She changed her name and moved to the UK after serving her sentence, but was eventually uncovered after she had already written several books. The whole story of the murder was told in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures.

Mammoths were still roaming the earth at the time the Great Pyramids were built.

Omg I knew before I got to the end of your first sentence that it was going to be about her!! I remember reading that she’d changed her name and moved to Scotland (I think) and become a writer. I love that film, but it’s so deeply unsettling knowing that it’s a true story. One of Melanie Lynskey’s first film roles - she’s amazing.

Annie in Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal is actually based on the CPR dummy. Apparently, MJ was learning CPR training around the time he wrote the song.

And the CPR dummy was named Annie after an unknown young woman's body was found in the River Seine in the late 1800's. It was common for a death mask to be made of unidentified bodies and put on display in the hope someone would recognise the person. The young woman's death mask become famous in France for its beauty. When the CPR dummy was invented around the 1950's/60's the inventor remembered this story and named it after the woman who was found in the Seine. CPR dummies are usually referred to as Annie.

My DNephew 6 has never seen ghosts or anything scary (I know ghosts don’t exist). It’s just he’s too smart about all that. However he has a brother who’s due to turn a year old in October and they’re moving to a huge Georgian flat. I know the current occupiers (2 adults).

My hope is on DNephew 11 months being akin to a ghost hunter.

Sloths only poo once a week and lose one third of their entire body weight each time.

It’s the only time they come down to the ground, which is probably a relief for anyone that has to get around in sloth country.
