Deterring neighbour’s dog

Spoonz · 10/09/2024 12:50

Loooooong story short… my neighbour’s dog does it daily crap in my front garden and I can’t stop it. I chat to neighbour, he is apologetic, he clears it up, it happens again. I am moving in a year or so and am unwilling to spend anymore energy on convincing him to be a responsible dog owner, so Plan B…

what I would like is some sort of animal prickle strip that I can drive over. Is there such a thing? I can see prickle strips on Amazon but they all look like they’d break if I drove over them.

Stand ready with hose... Not being particularly specific on who you wet...

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 10/09/2024 12:54

You need a strong smelling disinfectant if it's on hard ground. When I clean my yard with lemon disinfectant, my dog doesn't know where to go poop as he can't smell his last one anymore. Takes him ages to find the spot that's just right again! If it's grass, maybe try squirting lemon juice?

Spoonz · 10/09/2024 12:59

Have tried the hose option but the dog is not predicable with its timing and I stand out there for ages!

Disinfectant is a good idea.

The ground is hard.
The dog is small.
Its craps are neither.

Where is the neighbour while it's happening? Why can't he just control the dog to the extent it simply doesn't go on your property at all?

The dog roams free. He really doesn’t care.

Ask him to keep his dog on a lead when it comes out to poo?

DaisyChain505 · 10/09/2024 13:06

Tell your neighbour that being apologetic isn’t good enough and to put his dog on a lead or else you will be taking video footage of the incidents and sending them to the police.

dog fouling is a crime.

Mischance · 10/09/2024 13:06

Pick up turd - place in paper bag - put on neighbour's doorstep - light the bag and ring the bell ........ then enjoy watching neighbour stamp on bag to put out flames ...... !!!

Prick.

Tell him you've put down some toxic deadly to dogs weed killer or something.

Spenditlikebeckham · 10/09/2024 13:09

Contact the dog warden at your local council.. If they collect it from the street ndn will have to pay £70 for every day it is in their kennels.... Even an hour... Pay up.

I love dogs but what the fuck! What happens if it comes across another dog while on its travels? I hate seeing kids walking dogs as they have no idea what to do when the shit hits the fan and this is equivalent.

What about the shits it does that aren't reported back to him?

I imagine they'd do nothing but a dog in public that's not under control deserves a call to the police.

caramac04 · 10/09/2024 13:11

The dog should be on a lead. I would never let my dogs crap on someone else’s property. On a rare occasion one has gone to crouch I just move them on, it’s not difficult.
As owner doesn’t care, I’d try white pepper or you can buy a powder - I think it’s called Scoot - which deters cats and dogs.

Spoonz · 10/09/2024 13:11

I have been battling this for a long time. I have tried sooooo many things. The owner is not reasonable. He is also rather aggressive. I am not scared of confrontation. But I have been there and it doesn’t work. I have wasted years of energy on knocking on his door, reporting, telling all the other neighbours etc..

I don’t have the energy to fight him anymore and I’m moving in a year or so.

Right now what I want to do is stop the dog physically coming into my garden

If you get something pirckly that can withstand the weight of the car, it is going to harm the dog.

Look for motion triggered water jets. It's like a spike you put in the ground that shoots out water when it detects movement. Set it so it only covers the grass as a detection zone (to prevent passers by getting hit).

Sorry not very helpful but this did make me laugh 🤭

Hopefully someone has the answer as this must be horrible to have to put up with every day.

The neighbour has been reported to the dog warden. He thought the report had come from another neighbour and became very aggressive with them. I don’t have the capacity to get involved in this anymore.

Just need to stop the bloody dog…

Hawthorn twigs which are thorny scattered on the grass. Move dog turd to his path/ lawn so the smell is there so it might use that place in future. Sprinkle pepper or similar. Maybe using a watering can to spread fabric softener and water. Sprinkle dettol.

TheFlis · 10/09/2024 13:29

Is there a reason you can’t put a physical barrier like a fence in place?

The dimensions of the drive would make it really expensive. In the £1000s. It is a possibility but I’m hoping I can stop this dog without spending a fortune…

I had a mystery dog coming onto my drive to poo right under my kitchen window.

We happened to have an enormous, catering sized bottle of chilli sauce and so I started squirting it anywhere the dog had pooed, right across the entrance to the drive and all around the posts to deter sniffing and peeing.

I must have looked a bit odd if the neighbours were watching and I had to do it every few days or more if it rained, but it did work.

This is actually a really good point. There’s a sauce called mega death. It’s used as deer repellant. I let my dog sniff it and he’s never recoiled so quickly. Not joking.

only other thing that’s not going to cost is a jar full of coins or rocks or water but you’d have to be watching out for him which is a pain. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It’s shit.

Andwegoroundagain · 10/09/2024 15:20

Can you put something on your drive temporarily that is unpleasant to walk on for dogs? I bought some prickle strips to stop Foxes digging but they could be placed just on the drive ?

coldcallerbaiter · 10/09/2024 15:22

Put chilli everywhere…Dogs should wear nappies or not go out. None of this picking up or not. Picking up involves leaving remnants behind. Why is shitting outside acceptable because it’s a pet?
