Neighbours and their trampoline

The neighbours next door are a massive family and are only renting. They've lived there 4 years. We live in a terraced road and I live with my mum only. (Mum owns our house, but next door rent it out) - hence this big family there now. We dread the summer as they're so loud; in fact, they're the loudest in the entire road!

We recently spent a small fortune on a fence (it is our responsibility as per the deeds). It was expensive and something mum and I saved for. However, next door's tenants have a trampoline right up against one of our fence panels that moves back and forth when their kids are jumping on it. They're not the most approachable of people, but somehow we managed to see them and told them politely that we don't want to spoil their kids fun, but could they move their trampoline just a little away from our fence as they're pricey to replace and it was continually moving. This was agreed and they moved it about half a metre! However, they went on holiday for a few weeks, came back and the trampoline has worked it's way back up against one of our fence panels again, and again, the panel is moving to the jumps of when the trampoline is in use by their kids again.

Any ideas what we should do? It's only me and mum against them all. Thank you.

You lost me at "only renting"

Can't bear snobbery.

Procrastinates · 07/09/2024 23:17

I'm really struggling to see how a trampoline can move a fence panel if the fence has been installed properly.

Also why the need for multiple comments about them renting? The fact they rent has nothing to do with the situation .

MissUnclutter · 07/09/2024 23:17

Me too

'Only renting' indeed.....do you pay your mother rent??

Memba · 07/09/2024 23:17

'Only renting' Hmm

D12troop · 07/09/2024 23:21

Jeesus who cares about the renting.

Unfortunately trampolines drift and other than them bolting it down there's not a lot you can do unfortunately. They usually break though so just wait it out.

pancakerobot · 07/09/2024 23:21

Can you get your own trampoline, and get your DCs to jump at the same time as your neighbours? That would cancel out any movement on the fence.

OP doesn’t mention having kids so I guess it’s down to her and her mum to counter-bounce the femce

absolutelydone · 07/09/2024 23:25

Why the emphasis on renting? Wasn’t relevant to your post tbh.

Well OP managed to shoehorn in the fact that they are a large family (three times), they rent (three times) and OP’s mum owns her house (twice), none of which is relevant to the actual question.

That’s why people have picked up on it.

Just4thisthreadtoday · 07/09/2024 23:27

@user1471867483
isn't the obvious thing to tell them it's worked its way back to the fence & can they please move it again

suggest they dig holes for its legs to sit in

stop being a twat about them renting

I think the point she was making was that the neighbours are transient due to it being a rental and the current bunch are a bit antisocial.

lol

SD1978 · 07/09/2024 23:31

You're going to be pulled on because of what you said, and get no actual answers. The faux how can a trampoline damage a fence comments, of course it can if a sodding hit trampoline is constantly knocking into a fence. Ask them again, if you can, or contact the landlord and let them know that you'll be sending them a bill if the fence panel meeds to be replaced, because it is the tenants that have done it, not natural wear and tear,

They’ve been there four years. That’s longer than some people own a house.

InWalksBarberalla · 07/09/2024 23:32

Ask them to move the trampoline away from the fence again.

LeavesOnTrees · 07/09/2024 23:32

4 years isn't transient.
Anyway, go around and just ask nicely to move their trampoline again.
They probably haven't realised it's moved (I'm assuming with the bouncing).

Miffed52 · 07/09/2024 23:46

We don't know who the landlord is. Looks like I'll have to ask them again.

Namechange fail and revealed your ‘true’ self?

LongTimeReading · 08/09/2024 00:00

Exactly this. From what the OP tells us, there was no issue last time and they possibly don't know it's worked it's way back again.

DoggoQuestions · 08/09/2024 00:03

It's quite funny that someone who hasn't even moved out of mummy's spare bedroom is getting uppity about pesky renters.

I’ve lived in my rented property for 9.5 years, nearly all of DD’s life and the longest I’ve lived anywhere, even though my parents owned most of the houses I lived in as a child. We’re not antisocial either. I spent today touching up paintwork in the house.

Ah it's YOU!

Name change fail!

Sparklfairy · 08/09/2024 00:06

I think the rent comments might be more that they won't pay for any damage as they think its not their house, not their problem. It would be more clear cut if they owned.

MissUnlocked · 08/09/2024 00:08

Well no

Nobody wants a broken fence....'owner' OR 'renter'
