It's difficult to recommend anything properly, due to interests, etc. But I have a lot of time, for irrelevant reasons, but to say I do tend to spend a lot of time streaming and it gets really hard to find anything that catches my interest that I've not already seen. However, when I am trying to find anything I tend to go to (streaming, paid for apps, not including itv, iPlayer etc) apps in this particular order: nowtv > Netflix > prime. I did used to have Apple+ and I'd say that was near the start of the list until I had watched everything faster than new stuff being added, which then made it go way down the list.
If I include free streaming I'd put iPlayer first - and is in fact first on my list above nowtv. Itv, ch4 & 5, used ocassionally, in spurts whilst I'm waiting for the paid for apps to add new content. Overall in my list tho I would say that usually before, or after prime, so relatively low down.
Don't forget, as well as the usual streaming apps there are other free ones such a U (previously ukplay), which can be good for a few series but not great enough to be in the regular cycle, plus also stv. I used to have a discovery+ sub and that was actually quite good but very slow to add new content, so once the good stuff was watched it then became pointless so was removed.
If it matters, I share some of the streaming apps. So I pay for Netflix and think overall worth it, and I have my own account on the other person's Prime, and we both more than make up that cost just for orders and delivery costs saved. However, if it was me paying for my own I'm not sure that Prime tv alone would be worth the cost, if you take prime delivery etc out of the equation.
Plex is another one that's good. I have my own Plex account and access to I think 3 other people's servers on Plex, so can watch whatever they add or just ask them to add a series or something for me if I can't find it anywhere else. I couldn't host a server or anything of my own tho!
You then have different free apps here and there that you ocassionally hear of and give a try but they just tend to come and go.
So, no idea if any of this is useful as it's obviously subjective, but that's just my opinion. FWIW, I have no children at home, I tend to watch series more than films and I love documentaries/true life (not reality), a good drama and the odd bit of mindless blandness to send me to sleep. Don't watch a lot of comedy, but on all of the above they do have a lot of choice in most categories.
