Good Morning Everyone! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. Dd1's awake too so I've made her one but she's not come down for it yet 🤷‍♀️ . The kittens are upstairs somewhere, probably causing chaos, after breakfast although I can't hear them. Dd2's still sock on, she's been knackered after her first couple of days back at school.

I don't think we're doing much of anything today. There's a local-ish event on a large park but the weather forecast looks rubbish & it's grey outside so I'm not sure either of the girls will fancy it. I'll give it an hour & then see what they say.

If not, there's plenty to do here - I have a bag of homeless things to either find homes for, or chuck, & have been working my way through all the drawers/cupboards clearing & cleaning. Plus the usual washing uniform, checking homework's done, general housework.

What about all of you? 🙂

I slept far too late, but I’m grieving the loss of both parents in the last few months and feel totally exhausted. DH has taken DD out for the day so I might go for a swim and then sit quietly in my mum’s house for a bit. Think about redecorating then panic and feel overwhelmed and sad.
Then make a cottage pie.
Each day is long and brutal at the moment.

Huge virtual hugs. I know that feeling of long days just running into eachother. I lost my dad a few years ago and it was tough. Felt like a big black cloud following me. Take each day as it comes and it does get a little bit easier. Allow friends and family to support you 🤍

Morning lucysmam
And all. Afternoon now actually. I'm working a split shift on the out of hours safeguarding team, phone support from home, so did 7-11, back on 2-6. Managed to put my back out digging a hole for a plant to go in to in my break so now lying flat on the floor having taken some ibuprofen distracting self on MN whilst my back spasms. Great!
Was meant to be going to a friends party later but now we will see as my back is hurting considerably .

ViciousCurrentBun · 07/09/2024 13:34

Horrendous rain has meant I’m not going to the battle reenactment. I’m going to watch films and laze about.

lucysmam · 07/09/2024 14:45

@ViciousCurrentBun we didn't go out either. It rained on my washing so we've been mooching about the house instead.

Dd2's making notes for one of her GCSE subjects & dd1 is reading Othello and making notes. I've cleaned the downstairs loo, mopped the bathroom & am a bit bored now 🙄 . Need food for the kittens though so will wander to Lidl with dd1.

I've been stuck on the sofa for an hour because a cat has decided to curl up in my lap and go to sleep. It would appear that until further notice this is how I'm spending my Saturday afternoon.

It's not my cat, by the way.

Oh gosh. I'm so sorry to hear you've recently lost both your parents. Life can be incredibly cruel.

Be kind to yourself and take things one step at a time.

Strive for the basics - hydration, sustenance, rest and cuddles with your DC.

gardenmusic · 07/09/2024 15:18

Good afternoon!
Returned some long sleeve T shirts to John Lewis - cannot find any nice, thick , quality tops, then had a short walk and brunch with a friend.
This afternoon I have stewed buckets full of pears to freeze. I am scrolling like mad to find some waterproof leather boots, not clunky, smart required. I think it is impossible!

BellaBobbins · 07/09/2024 15:30

Autumn Reset 🍂 is going wonderfully - kitchen has been re-organised and cleaned, just need to tackle the windows which is a tomorrow job as I want to make a start on tea.

DD has requested a roast dinner tomorrow so I'll make an apple crumble to go with.

I love doing a kitchen reset at this time of year so I know what I need to start stocking up with for lots of lovely soups, stews etc.

AddictedToBooks · 07/09/2024 15:38

I made a chicken stew for the dogs (one needs a special diet as his enzymes were high on a recent blood test),

I've planned tomorrow's dinner,

I've read some of "I Invited Her In" by Adele Parks,

I spent quite a bit of time (too much) doing some of my genealogy (on my 18th line of grandparents of my paternal grandmother's paternal side - I have a life-limiting illness and have been handwriting books of each ancestral line as something to leave behind),

I've done the laundry and tidied the back garden as it was full of dog toys,

Next I plan to have a shower, cook something quick for tea, read some more of my book and then tonight, I plan to watch a horror movie with a couple of glasses of white wine.

My husband's back tomorrow so this has been my chance to have a lazyish day and night.

Enjoy your Saturday everyone

Very late to update today! To all of you experiencing difficult times, thinking of you and brighter days are ahead. This week has been busy with back to school and now two school runs to do as DD1 at sixth form in a new school. Emotionally it’s tiring listening to all the likes and dislikes a new school year brings. Thankfully today everyone is doing their own thing so I’ve been able to catch up on some housework. I’ve lost count of the amount of times the washing machine has been on. I have managed to make some bread pudding from some bread that needed using up ( I’d normally throw it away) and I must say it’s delicious, very easy to make, from bbc good food website. We’ve had an early tea and tidied up. Only thing that needs doing is the kitchen floor mopping, then I’m done for the day. It’s gone too quickly today.

Singleandproud · 07/09/2024 17:00

My Autumn Reset is not going well, filter on the washing machine is stuck so either my dad's going to have to bodge it or I'll need to get an engineer round 😔

I did manage the food shop and a trip to the uniform shop to buy DDs school blazer, didn't want to attempt it in the summer and she only needed a refresh as she hasn't grown but still had to wait 30mins.

DDs sat writing up her notes from this week's lessons into flash cards so that when it becomes time for revision she's had them prepared in advance. - She is very diligent and definitely doesn't get it from me. Although I do keep her stocked up in nice stationery.

Were having Korma tonight so just finishing tidying the kitchen and I'll get that on.

CoffeandTiaMaria · 07/09/2024 18:06

It’s good evening from me! I have done an all day zoom watercolour painting workshop today, very enjoyable but I am knackered!
After yesterday’s biblical rains and thunderstorms at least it’s been generally dry until about five minutes ago. DH has dug out the hole in the patio for the base of the new washing line to fit in, amid much cursing (all my fault, of course!) and cemented in the ground spike thingy.
Dog and I have had a quick walk, DH took her out for several hours this morning, she’s squeezed herself into my armchair with me and is pretending she’s not trying to push me out 🙄
I’m going to have a nice hot bath in a bit, bubbles and a book I think.
Have a lovely evening x

Up, showered, washed hair, leisurely breakfast then did the kitchen benches, floor etc and hoovered downstairs.
DH went off to the model railway shop with his friend, DS went out for a ride on the metro and to see his friends.
When DD surfaced, we had a short bike ride to my friend's and a chat with her then when we got back, she did homework and I read my book - The Garnett girls.
Had curry for luch then she returned to her homework and I wanted to be outside as it's been an absolutely gorgeous day, so I walked up to the garden centre and wandered about amongst the flowers and plants, as I love to do that, it's very calming.
Tired when I got back so we went for fish and chips. Then DS, DD and I played dominoes and DD won followed by DD and I playing scrabble, where I won thanks to using all 7 letters in one turn twice (words were earphone and greenfly) so a 50 point bonus for each of those! Normally DD wins with loads of 50 point bonuses but not tonight.
Now DS has disappeared upstairs, DD is ironing her stuff for tomorrow and I have put Aveeno on my feet and I'm going to read the rest of this lovely thread, maybe delete some emails and possibly watch NCIS with DH - one of the older episodes with Tiny, Ziva and Abby.
Thanks for this thread, I love to read about what everyone's doing.

CalicoPusscat · 07/09/2024 20:05

My procedure was painful but you tend to forget about it afterwards and feel relieved that it's done.

So starving though and fell on a plate of food quickly afterwards, now going to relax with a film and tea. And get a pudding from the supermarket perhaps.

DilemmaDelilah · 07/09/2024 20:12

Hello @lucysmam ! I was off out early this morning - we've had an exciting day! We went to look at cars this morning, and picked up our 2 yr old Nissan Leaf this afternoon! Between the two I had to come home for a sleep. Then we picked up my grandson from school this evening (choir school).

Tomorrow we are going to the Cathedral hog roast at lunchtime, and then we will pick up my grandson again in the evening. DH was hoping to go out to eat before we pick him up, but quite frankly I think I am just too exhausted. I've been on my new meds for nearly a month now and some of the side effects are really kicking in.... Including the 'extreme fatigue '.

Never mind, I have next week off work and we're going to spend a few days at the seaside. I'm really looking forward to it!
