PARTY BAGS - hit me with your good ideas

For a mixed-sex group of 7-8 year olds.

I don't like the idea of filling other people's houses (or eternal landfill) with plastic tat, but, kids do love plastic tat.

What's gone down well in your party bags, I'd love some inspiration!

The last few parties I've done I got the 10 for £10 books and given each child a book and a slice of cake.

HalfaCider · 06/09/2024 10:32

Is there a party theme?

BunfightBetty · 06/09/2024 10:32

Probably won't be popular on MN, but the biggest hit we've had have been mini pots of slime/putty etc.

angelopal · 06/09/2024 10:33

Popit key rings, mini slinkies, scratch art book marks, bath bombs, pencils with toppers, bubbles.

From a personal preference nothing noisy. Don't mind plastic tat but not noisy plastic tat 😀

Lucky dip wrapped random gifts( books, activity or toy) plus cake. I have also done a craft like build a bird box that they take home with small bag of sweets and cake.

It's being held at a pottery cafe, so the kids will be decorating and firing a mug (and then games and food).

We’ve got a craft item, sweets and choc in ours this year (bit younger though). The Works had paint your own dinosaur sun catcher for £1 (dino theme party) so I bought those.

Jellyslothbridge · 06/09/2024 10:40

One of the biggest success was a DIY pic a mix sweet bar with a small tub to fill. I know not ideal but at least portion was controlled!

PollyPeep · 06/09/2024 10:42

If they're decorating a mug (lovely idea!) I would count that as the party bag gift, and just pop a small packet of sweets and a slice of cake into the mug. I don't think there's a need for any more presents for the other kids ☺️

JoanCollected · 06/09/2024 10:43

Hot chocolate set for the mug they make.

MidnightPatrol · 06/09/2024 10:44

If they’re making a mug, they already have something to take home.

Happyinarcon · 06/09/2024 10:45

Once I just put 10 jelly beans in that clear plastic wrap they cover cakes with, and tied them with thin curly ribbon. They looked really lovely. I realized then that kids are just as happy with some nicely presented jelly beans as they are with other more expensive things.

SockSensation · 06/09/2024 10:45

Just don't, or if you must, a few sweets and a piece of cake.

Needmorelego · 06/09/2024 10:46

Slice of the cake/cup cake
Packet of sweets
Lego Polybag

I agree. No plastic tat thanks.

My sister got these little card robots and the children loved them!

Agree re the mug being the party takeaway! If you want to give something to signal home time, a cupcake in a box or a small of sweets is fine.
But I like the pick n mix tub idea!

InnerPlop · 06/09/2024 10:48

Bath bombs. Got a box of 20 from Amazon for £12.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 06/09/2024 10:57

Things we've done or received that have been great: Sweetie cone, poppit keyring, squishmallow surprise egg, small puzzle book, paint your own figurine, small maze games, mini jigsaws from the works.

PollyOrange · 06/09/2024 11:05

How about a spoon each for use in their mugs ? I got some Christmas themed ones from eBay a while back. Not expensive at all and cute

shugarsuz · 06/09/2024 11:07

Spy pens went down well here! (Invisible ink and the light on pen shows the 'secret' writing)

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 06/09/2024 11:08

You can get spoons with hot chocolate stuff on or hot chocolate bombs.

I wouldn't do more than this. Maybe a hot chocolate sachet and a little bag of marshmallows but really the mug is the gift. Along with a piece of cake if they're not eating it there.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 06/09/2024 11:29

When she was that age I did inflatable saxophones from Amazon instead of a party bag (they took home cake and a bag of haribo also) handed out after a bowling party. The kids absolutely loved them although it's quickly descend into bashing each other on the heads with them Grin

She still has hers and I believe a few other f her friends do too so they were a big success
