Bidet - game changer

After coming back from Japan for a work trip and only using bidets (or bum gun as my co worker so eloquently put it) I’ve realised how amazing they are. I was very sceptical at first and was thinking there is no way I would like using one. But I was pleasantly surprised and have never felt so clean down there after using the loo. I spoke to a plumber about getting one installed in my bathroom and he said it was illegal in England as something to do with the inlet and out let of water needs to go through a separate tank. The cost to do all this is apparently ridiculous. Alas i will have to have to use loo roll and long for the days when bidets become common enough here that I can feel like a queen after using the toilet.

We have a closomat toilet for my DC who is disabled. It washes and dries. Game changer 😁

OfMiceandWomen · 05/09/2024 16:40

Yes I agree I would love a bidet after using them abroad on holidays. I felt so clean and refreshed using one 😀

TomatoSandwiches · 05/09/2024 16:43

You can get the peri bottles from boots that you fill up with warm water and use, I have a travel one, leaves you very fresh and clean.

A washing up bowl? Now that doesn’t seem clean of hygienic 🤣

We used to have one in a former house. Should not be an issue if you have water supply and sewerage but it could be that the sewage pip is on the other side or something. You can get all in one toilets which are more practical

CraftyNavySeal · 05/09/2024 16:49

Get a “bum gun” installed eg. a small shower hose next to the toilet

Or you could buy a bodna (special jug)

BustingBaoBun · 05/09/2024 16:52

I hate bidets, we had two removed. I'd rather have a shower because I don't feel the need to wash myself every time I have a wee

Keroppi · 05/09/2024 16:52

Japanese toilets are something else entirely.. So amazing. All their appliances are so cute and sing a tune!

Get a little shower hose installed at the side of toilet it's not illegal and simpleish to do

Otherwise use this

It's a gel that goes on top of your loo roll. Extra clean and similar to a baby wipe feeling

Yes I think it was something to do with the sewerage line. All in one ones are what they had in Japan and they were amazing. A white noise button to cover up unpleasant bathroom sounds, a scented spray when you were done to keep it smelling fresh. And ofc the bidet built in. We really need to up our loo game over here

Just realised I've never actually used a bidet.

dudsville · 05/09/2024 16:59

We have the little shower hoses installed by our toilets. I think a seperate bidet is a waste and a faff, as you need it after using the toilet, so you, I imagine, would have to sort of waddle over to it, clothes and legs akimbo. Unnecessary faff. I have a stock of cheap cotton flannels next to the toilet. Their single use then wash. They're a different colour so even thought they're clean, no one has to feel ick about it being for other uses. I love the hoses and really miss them when I'm travelling in areas that don't have them. They're muuuuuuuch cheaper than the Japanese toilet.

This was exactly how I thought I would feel but using it completely changed my mind. Although I agree they are excessive if it’s just for a wee. But for everything else they leave you feeling clean and fresh. It’s just like a shower for your bum lol

It took me 36 years to use one, so I’m sure you’re not alone

We have a handheld bidet and it’s great. It doubles up as being handy to clean the toilet too!

FortunataTagnips · 05/09/2024 17:07

We have a separate bidet and I love it. Wouldn’t be without one.

Augustjo · 05/09/2024 17:15

As pp have said, easiest option is to install a douche next to your existing toilet. This is common in Thailand and I think, the Middle East. Or replace your existing toilet with a full on singing and dancing Japanese loo, or a more simple Turkish style bidet toilet, that you can operate like a tap with the knob sitting on the side of, or next to the toilet. Even B&Q can supply all of the above.

Can you tell I'm about to install one in my bathroom?Once you've got used to them it's hard to go back! 😂

evtheria · 05/09/2024 17:19

Basic, old school option: a bucket of water with a mini handled bucket/plastic cup thing next to loo

Or on Amazon there are add-on bum guns to install onto existing toilets. I've never done this but was reading people's reviews on easy/realistic it was. So tempted!

Teajenny7 · 05/09/2024 17:20

We had a bidet put in our ensuite about 10 years ago.
We had one put in the main bathroom 8 years ago.
Wish we could fit one in our downstairs cloakroom.
I wouldn't live in a house without one.

WildCats24 · 05/09/2024 17:25

We had one in our house, but removed it as soon as we moved in—the bathroom was the first thing to be remodelled! I never used it. How do you dry, or do you have wet knickers and a wet patch on your trousers? 🙈

GiantHornets · 05/09/2024 17:26

a scented spray when you were done to keep it smelling fresh

scented sprays keep nothing smelling fresh, it’s just masking the odour with artificial scent. I just keep the window open for fresh air

Augustjo · 05/09/2024 17:31

You use the same supply for this as your as your loo

Augustjo · 05/09/2024 17:38

Interesting - didn't realise. Just checked and realised ours is ok as will be fed from tank that fed previous bidet. Funny that you can wash your bum in a shower or bath, but not in a bidet, really 🤔

Edited

Haha no you just use loo roll to dry. But one roll would last you a very long time as you just pat dry your bum with a few sheets. Not wet knickers needed

Indeed... thinking of the thousands of poonamis that must be showered down daily....😆
