Supposedly ’posh’ things you think are common *trigger warning this is light hearted*

Obviously lighthearted and no need to explain your rational. But what are things that some people consider high end/ posh/ classy/ aspirational (I know they are not necessarily the same thing) that you don’t like/ think are tacky/ common / etc.

Again this is light hearted. We can complain but we must never explain!!!!!!

Here is my list.

Molton Brown hand wash
M&S food shop
American Style Fridges
Having a tan
Talking about exercising
Beauty Advent Calendars
Designer toasters and kettles
House of Fraser department stores
Posting photos from 1st class travel on instagram
Referring to your car by its brand name
Talking about your ‘forever home’
Shopping in Space NK
Visiting Disney World
Listening to Classic FM

Just "the garden". Because if you're really posh, your house sits within its own grounds, and the garden isn't just a bit of grass round the back.

I see. Thanks for the explanation.

I have only every said 'the garden' not because I am 'posh' but because for the longest time I only lived in houses with no front garden and only a bit of grass at the back 😆

Saying that lockdown was paradise.

Using reflexive pronouns incorrectly.
I see it all the time on here.
“Myself and my husband…”

Cruises
RRs
Ascot
personalised plates
Turkey AI

Reflexive pronouns was going to be my one! John Finnemore (comedian) is spot on in my favourite radio series ever, Cabin Pressure.

Nail varnish in anything except a single colour.

'arty' tattoos

Any writing on walls, signs, cushions etc inside a private house.

Saying 'home' or 'property' instead of 'house'.

'pardon'

ilovesushi · 03/09/2024 21:38

Why is referring to your car by its brand name a class thing? I'll sometimes refer to it by the brand, sometimes by the colour. Eg "DH, I'm taking the red car today, can you take the Honda?"

JaninaDuszejko · 03/09/2024 21:38

Nicky Haslam tea towels
Botox
AI holidays

Arrivapercy · 03/09/2024 21:38

Wtf is wrong with classic FM?! It's my go to for keeping calm in bastard London traffic.

Actually posher folk listen to Radio 3.

HoppityBun · 03/09/2024 21:39

Using the word “posh”

MarjorieOsborne · 03/09/2024 21:39

German cars - BMWs, Audis and Mercedes'. The roads are saturated with them. People think they're something special but seem completely unaware of just how common they are. I always assume people who buy them are sheep who have no imagination of their own.

Funerals with carriages and horses.

Like the little girls in Southport you mean? 😡

No, that's a step too far.
This is getting very cruel now.
You do realise that horse and carriage funerals are used a lot for small children dont you?
How dare you mock the bereaved.

Gowlett · 03/09/2024 21:40

I’ve actually never heard of Miller & Carter until tonight.
It’s clearly a restaurant, someone mentioned Harvester?

Papyrophile · 03/09/2024 21:40

Salcombe = Belgravia on Sea
Helford = Knightsbridge on Sea
Rock = Fulham on Sea

Should I continue? The people who live in between usually sail a million times faster.

Lwrenn · 03/09/2024 21:40

ChishiyaBat · 03/09/2024 21:34

@Lwrenn were they bath pearls or perles though? I remember buying different shapes and colours for around 10-20p back in the day.
Stunt oil is definitely still a thing too I always see the stunt oil sets at Christmas in the shops, Full of weird ingredients and often with a balsamic vinegar partner!

Yes the bath perls!! Bloody heck, I loved them. How I was never arrested pinching them is beyond me. Body shop was another place with lots of "minging and fingered" cosmetics wasn't it 😂

Stunt oil 😂 haha!
I've never seen any in the shops, probably because I only go aldi or use vinted 😂
I'm going to get Mr lwrenn to get me some stunt oil for my birthday now and if anyone touches it there will be bloody murder!

I thought this when that PP posted it….thought it was cruel and totally unnecessary

I’m currently wearing a bra that the dog stole out of the fresh washing pile and dumped in the garden this morning… I’m still living!

I loved this, made me smile, thank you 😂

You can say lighthearted all you want but the snobs will descend in seconds.

They already have.

BlackForestCake · 03/09/2024 21:42

Wine

Wine is seen as posh? Are you posting from 1975?

friendlycat · 03/09/2024 21:42

LaPalmaLlama · 03/09/2024 20:20

I once saw The Falcons described as "high rise living in South Chelsea". I lived there so not slagging it but made me laugh.

Now that so funny

LifeofBrienne · 03/09/2024 21:43

CraigBrown · 03/09/2024 20:17

If you're going to do this, you need to go all in like Nicky Haslam, who lists such things as 'loving your parents' and 'saying bye bye'.
https://nickyhaslamstudio.com/tea-towels

Oh I love this! Squinting at the photos I see one of them includes ‘The Northern Lights’ and ‘Strawberries’.

Pebbles16 · 03/09/2024 21:43

Red (or possibly yellow/maroon) courds. A la Chelea. That's vair posh

Forcing guests to take their shoes off at the door because you have a glaring white carpet that you obviously can't afford to have cleaned.

Ha ha, yes!
Smart people have so many spaniels and labradors that the occasional booted visitor really won't make a difference. 🤣
Everyone else though - leave M&S food shops alone! And BTW, Range Rovers are allowed if they aren't white and as long as they have dirt around the wheels! 😉

Gowlett · 03/09/2024 21:43

Lwrenn, ALDI would deffo have stunt oil at Christmas!

Exactly in both forms of snobbery and inverse snobbery.
