Where to park to tube into London?

I need to go into central London on Sunday from the north of England and trains and flights are proving too expensive. Can’t do the coach due to times, so only option left really is to drive. Where is best to drive to and park up to then get the tube to? TIA

Where in London do you need to get to?

orangetree1999 · 02/09/2024 14:10

Westfield shopping centre or street parking near Hanger Lane tube.

HotCrossBunplease · 02/09/2024 14:12

Nobody who lives in London talks about “central London”. Can you be a bit more specific?

longdistanceclaraclara · 02/09/2024 14:14

BlueBlahBlah · 02/09/2024 14:14

My sincerest apologies. Drury Lane to be specific.

We always use Westfield Stratford - plenty of parking and a short walk through the shopping centre to the trains.

Tiswa · 02/09/2024 14:18

Where exactly are you coming from as there are different options depending on direction!

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 02/09/2024 14:20

I live in London and I frequently talk about central London. Which direction are you travelling from?

BlueBlahBlah · 02/09/2024 14:20

From Manchester

What's your route down A1, M1, M40

longdistanceclaraclara · 02/09/2024 14:20

Westfield Stratford, Central line to Holborn,
It's about a 5 minute walk to Drury Lane.

Thank you. Do we pay congestion park if driving to Westfield Stratford?

Thank you. Do we pay congestion park if driving to Westfield Stratford?

No - we just have to pay ULEZ when we park there (we enter from M11)

parietal · 02/09/2024 14:27

There is justpark and parkonmydrive which let you rent a parking space for a day or so. Look at a tube map or the Citymapper app to plan your travel, then pick a parking space on the right tube line.

Tiswa · 02/09/2024 14:28

Yes is your car ULEZ compliant?

LilBowWow · 02/09/2024 14:28

Park in South Ruislip, Perivale or Greenford, get central line tube to Holborn.

beetr00 · 02/09/2024 14:30

You can see both congestion and ULEZ maps here @BlueBlahBlah

Personally, depending on where you are coming from, I'd look at the stations heading out from Euston or Kings Cross and park at one of those and take a suburban train into Euston/Kings Cross then an easy tube or bus down towards Drury Lane. Those suburban stations often have regular trains, easy parking, and there's no congestion charge to pay. For example, we are on the Surrey/London border, there are train stations in zone 4 or 5 with trains running 4-6 x per hour, and permanent car parks.

CraftyNavySeal · 02/09/2024 14:32

Park at Watford Junction then get fast train to Euston then tube to Leicester Square

Or park at Cockfosters and get the tube to Covent Garden

GoldPlayer · 02/09/2024 14:33

If you're going on a Sunday, parking on residential streets is usually free outside of the centre. You could try Mile End/Bethnal Green and then hop on the tube to Holborn. Another option is to park in Covent Garden using JustPark – though you’ll have to pay the congestion charge. But honestly, driving in Central London at the weekend is really quite fun and worth the £12 or whatever it is

TheFormidableMrsC · 02/09/2024 14:45

If you're coming down the A1M, I would get off at South Mimms services and drive to Cockfosters tube station. You can also join the M25 at South Mimms and get off at Potters Bar and drive to Cockfosters from there too. Six of one etc. Cockfosters is in the ULEZ zone so check that out. You can do the same with Barnet tube but it's a much smaller car park that fills quickly.

TheFormidableMrsC · 02/09/2024 14:47

Or the other option off the A1M is Stevenage station in Herts which has loads of parking. You can get a train straight into Kings X that takes about 23 mins if it's the fast service and then get on the tube from there.

Nonsense, and also rude!

Milsonophonia · 02/09/2024 14:50

Book a driveway in Acton on just park then get the Elizabeth Line.

Nonsense. I'm a Londoner by birth and often refer to the fact my daughter lives in Central London. Because she does 🤷🏻‍♀️
