Where to park to tube into London?

I need to go into central London on Sunday from the north of England and trains and flights are proving too expensive. Can’t do the coach due to times, so only option left really is to drive. Where is best to drive to and park up to then get the tube to? TIA

By the time you've paid for petrol, ULEZ, train / tube from Zone 6 or wherever you may as well pay the £100 the train will cost.

Sorry I've realised you are coming in from the top not the side! Although my advice still stands - book a driveway near a outer zone tube station.

Surely Westfield Stratford is right across London if you are coming from the North?

It would have cost me 180 for three on the train. Cost 10 to park in a driveway then three tube tickets. Petrol was about 30 quid.

I must admit I never say central London either - we would say going up to town (if West End) or going to the City (if going to the City) (obv 😁) - we are Zone 3

Hi, there may be better places to the North, but I would google Straford International train station parking. This is my go to parking for getting into central London. Drive wise it is relatively straight forward down the M11 (and for you round the M25). Per day it is usually about eight quid and you can get to Drury Lane via the Elisabeth Line and then a walk from Tottenham Court Road in about 30-40 mins combined.

Oh no congestion charge at Stratford. Ulez applies from the North Circular.

Sudbury on Thames always has spaces in the car park and is easy from Manchester

From Mchr I’d go down the M1, park in Brent Cross / Hendon and get the Northern line to TCR. It is absolutely not worth driving all the way across to east London to park in Stratford.

If you're going on a Sunday, parking on residential streets is usually free outside of the centre. You could try Mile End/Bethnal Green and then hop on the tube to Holborn. Another option is to park in Covent Garden using JustPark – though you’ll have to pay the congestion charge. But honestly, driving in Central London at the weekend is really quite fun and worth the £12 or whatever it is

Yes, unless you are not driving back on the same day there is tons of on-street free parking on a Sunday in places like Islington (which is still outside the congestion charge zone). CC zone is very small. ULEZ won’t be an issue unless your car is diesel or quite old.

I would drive down the M40, park on a residential street in Perivale and get the Central line to Holborn.

HotCrossBunplease · 02/09/2024 15:31

To check residential street parking permissions go to the relevant borough’s website and look for a map of their CPZs (controlled parking zones). They are usually very clear.

Another vote for Cockfosters.

beguilingeyes · 02/09/2024 16:26

Arnos Grove isn't bad for parking. It's on the Piccadilly Line and close to the North Circular.

Good advice

I'm another one who'd just drive into central London and park. We usually park somewhere in Fitzrovia and there are loads of spaces. If you park before midday and don't leave until 6pm, then you don't even need to pay the Congestion Charge.
