Is the Zara website impossible or am I just an old fogey now?

I went to the Zara website today to have a browse for some autumn bits and dear lord!!

Results are annoyingly displayed, making looking through difficult especially as most of the images make it hard to get a sense of the garment itself, the results filter is lacking with minimal options to even try filter through and with the huge image-heavy site, so many results are not even visible as they need to load.

Am I just out of touch and don't know how to use the website correctly (I am in my 30s) or have I become a cranky old lady (or maybe both)?

It's not you. It's an awful website. My impression is that it's designed to get you into the shops rather than have you buy online!

dustydrawers · 01/09/2024 09:47

Uniqlo is the same. Just give me a page of trousers for fucks sake

GenAvocadoOnToast · 01/09/2024 10:02

I was on it the other day and I thought my head was going to explode. I was also on Uniqlo trying to look at t shirts but I couldn’t work out how to get past the front page.

It’s so difficult to get an idea of what things look like or how they hang from the model photos. Jumpers and cardigans are often tucked in (who the fuck wears them like that) and tops are often hidden behind a shirt or jacket. I wish they’d include a photo of the item itself, on its own.

ASOS is another one that’s awful. The weird lens they use which makes the models look like the sensory homunculus.

Bluevelvetsofa · 01/09/2024 10:06

I hate photos where the model is striking a weird pose, or sitting scrunched up, or some other unusual stance. I want to see the garment as it would be if I was trying it on. I don’t try clothes on with my knees up to my chin, sitting on a stool.

I clicked on this thread to say that I'd just given up with the Uniqlo website because it's impossibly shit. All it would let me look at was some nice stories about one of its sub-brands.

I'm having a day out in London in a couple of weeks so I'll just look in the shop instead.

It would be interesting to hear the thought process from the retailers as to how they think making it really hard for us to see what they sell will make us buy things from them.

I want to be able to see the item clearly and also filters that work and short list a sensible amount (no more than about 50) of items of the right type of what I am looking for, eg a short sleeved top or a green jumper.

december2020 · 01/09/2024 10:13

Thank fuck it's not just me!
Here I was wondering if I was fashion-thick! Though I probably am, regardless of Zara's website.

Then the bloody black and white/filtered images so I have no hope in seeing what the actual colour/share of the garment is.

@dustydrawers summed it up perfectly with: Just give me a page of trousers for fucks sake

Christ, I’ve just had a look at the new Uniqlo website. It’s awful.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 01/09/2024 10:28

If the website I work on was getting that kind of feedback, my team would most definitely see it as an ‘us’ problem & work to do something about it.

DancingNotDrowning · 01/09/2024 10:30

Only surpassed by sezanne’s website which makes me want to scream. 90% of the times I go on it I give up before purchase because it’s awful and unlike Zara the in store shopping experience is even worse.

Beefcurtains79 · 01/09/2024 10:31

It’s a dogshit website, really hard.
The H&M app is the hardest and worst app I’ve ever used. They are obsessed with trying to force you to use it over their far easier, and quicker website too.
It’s infuriating.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 01/09/2024 10:37

Uniqlo's website is also shite, I agree.

Tooty78 · 01/09/2024 10:42

A young Mum on IG did her take on the Zara website, which ended with her getting stuck in her toddlers Little Tikes Cosy Coupe!😄

GellerYeller · 01/09/2024 10:51

@DancingNotDrowning our local Zara is bloody awful for customer service.

H and M though: go online to find something you’ve seen in store. It suggests stuff from Arket or another pricy brand and then you have to filter again. DCs have cracked it by taking a photo of the instore label and searching by the item code.

ScribblingPixie · 01/09/2024 10:56

The new Uniqlo website is appalling. Why change something easy to use and helpful into an incoherent mess?

december2020 · 01/09/2024 12:06

I don't even have an in-store Zara close by, so all I'm left with is the shitty site.
Just went to check Mango's website, and while it seems to have fallen victim to the same trend, it does feel a bit easier to follow and don't send me into the same melt down.

Glittertwins · 01/09/2024 12:19

No, it's a pain to to use and DD who is quite competent in online clothes shopping said it was awful to use as well.

Totallymessed · 01/09/2024 12:22

My top tip for today: if you click on the search icon on the Uniqlo website you end up on a normal looking shopping website. Why is it designed like that? Fuck only knows.

The Zara site is irredeemable.

In-store Zara isn’t any better… in fact it’s worse I think. Nothing seems to be in any order. Like if you want to look at coats, they’re dotted around in random places all over the store. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to where they put things. I can’t go in, it’s overwhelming.

GenAvocadoOnToast · 01/09/2024 12:49

I think places like Zara and H&M stock too many clothes. I can’t cope with the choice I’m presented with when I click on the knitwear section. I’ve just clicked ‘cardigans and jumpers’ on the H&M website and it’s showing 764 products.

Kpo58 · 01/09/2024 12:55

I hate any retailer that sells 3rd party items through their website which isn't sold in store. Instead of finding what you want, have you considered this 10x the cost t-shirt from a posher brand that you can't find in store and comes from a different warehouse/supplier?

This! Took me hours to work it out.

Gave up with Zara years ago. All the models are playing one person twister so I've got no idea what the garment actually looks like.

WonderingWanda · 01/09/2024 13:02

Yes but I also find many shops like that as well, like a jumble sale of little capsule wardrobes of things I would never put together. Why can't there just be a t shirt section, trouser section, jeans section and etc.

MannishWater · 01/09/2024 13:04

Unusable! What are they thinking?! It’s just awful.

GenAvocadoOnToast · 01/09/2024 13:13

I’ve pretty much given up on buying clothes. Apart from the things mentioned in this thread, I’m fed up of the shite quality, odd cuts, inconsistent sizing and the struggle to find basic items without frills and embellishments. I don’t want a jumper with shoulder pads, an open back or balloon sleeves. Arghh.

I tried to get some basics from Tu the other day. 2 plain t shirts - awful quality. Leggings - awful scratchy material, nothing like the ones I bought last year. Cotton/modal PJs - material fine but the top was cut so the armpits were down to my waist.

Yes!!!
Cosmetics too. Looking at you Superdrug.
