Is there any such thing as a 7 seater car for 2 children?

That has isofix installation in the 3rd row?

In a nutshell, I have 2 DC that I need to separate. They can’t sit in the front passenger seat.

Both seats are isofix. Is there a 7 seater that would have isofix in the very back or does it not exist? :(

Only other option is a much larger SUV 5 seater, but I don’t think it would be wise in case it doesn’t m separate them enough so they can’t touch each other if they reached across

99% sure that a Kia Sorrento has isofix in the back row of seats! If that helps..

That’s really helpful, thank you. It’ll be a Motability car so unfortunately has to be a brand new car, which that one is

I currently drive a Kia (not that model) and love the car

You can’t just pick something that works but is second hand :( A shame as a lot of the time, that would suit many families with disabled children who need these specifics

We have a Mercedes EQB - 7 seats and it has isofix in the back row 😁.

You wont get Isofix in the very back seats of any 7 seater, but how separate are you thinking? A Ford SMax might do it, though you won’t get a new one as they’ve just been discontinued. The middle seat is a full sized seat, so if you have them on the two outer seats they shouldn’t be able to reach each other.

Yes you will....our EQB has isofix on the third row.

Backseat Wally? It’s like the inflatable dividers, but bigger, foam rather than inflatable, and quite difficult to move once in.

If severe send have you for high rate dla?

Have you considered a motability vehicle.

They are really good and can arrange to get vehicles fitted with most things you require - which can include specialist 3rd row back seats with isofix.

Tigerbreadbum · 29/08/2024 20:23

We just sold our seat Alhambra that definitely had isofix in all rows!

Tigerbreadbum · 29/08/2024 20:24

The Alhambra is the same as the VW sharan so that should be the same

itsgettingweird · 29/08/2024 20:25

Sorry cross posted!

In that case speak to the dealer of the make you want who can speak to motability.

My ds has just had adaptions fitted and motability were really helpful and the dealer found an adaptions company who rang me and someone about what was needed.

MyMintPombear · 29/08/2024 20:27

We have a VW touran and all the seats are isofix including the back.

Junibug · 29/08/2024 20:28

Land Rover Defender 190 is an 8 seater and the third row has proper adult sized seats with isofix.

JanefromLondon1 · 29/08/2024 20:29

Q7 does.

EternallyDelighted · 29/08/2024 20:30

Re outgrowing, we have a 10 year old Verso by about age 10-12 they could no longer fit in the third row easily and they were small for their ages. I (5'5") tried it once and it was like being a contortionist. Also very little space between the back of the seats and the tailgate which made me worry about safety in the event of being rear-ended, we only used that row when we were giving lifts to other families. New models might be different but it is worth checking the space.

mitogoshi · 29/08/2024 20:36

Can't help with the model but I completely understand where you are coming from. My non asd dc wound my asd d. Up something chronic then asd dc lashed out, even a 20 minute trip was like a full scale battle some days. It stopped once dc2 learned to not wind up dc1 and they invented tablets as the computer obsession was stronger

TwistedSisters · 29/08/2024 20:40

Oh and the Audi Q7 definitely does. Also I think the Kia Sorento does too but may need to check that.

umberellaonesie · 29/08/2024 20:48

Motability
I would say a van. I have 3 boys don't have the SEN challenges you have but quickly outgrew the third row in all people carrier type cars.
We got a van, I had a mercedes Vito but a friend has a vauxhall and they are easy to drive, full size seats and plenty boot room.

It's a Motability car, and the divider was put in by these people, so I'm guessing it was approved by Motability

Thank you so very much for linking this company. I really appreciate it. I hadn’t a clue they could help out via Motability adaptations

If they can create a divider, I maybe won’t even need a 7 seater!

Have you considered disability vehicles which allow for different seats configurations? Like this https://www.b-style.eu/disability-car-wav/citroen/berlingo-l2

Or would a car that has removable seats work? The berlingos with three separate back seats fold up and clip off rails. They also have points in the roof for internal roof bars. It might allow for the fitting of something more substantial between the seats

Gravylady · 29/08/2024 21:05

I have a simular situation to you, need to separate the 2 youngest to keep them safe

I have a ford galaxy
Plenty of space
Can put a covid style taxi plexiglass type divided in the middle or pop one into the back seat fairly easily
All back seats go down flat and there's space for 3 car seats on the middle row which most cars can't accommodate space wise

Happygogoat · 29/08/2024 21:06

Mercedes EQB has isofix in the third row. Don’t know about other models.

It's been a real game changer for her. Good luck!

Doesn't the C5 air cross only have one rear row?

motherdaughter · 30/08/2024 07:03

I've seen a family in a similar situation with a minibus where they have removed a lot of the seats, leaving one on each side, one at the front, one at the back. Their children are adult sized and cannot get close to each other. There is also enough space for a parent to strap them in easily.
If one of yours is reluctant to go out it could be difficult and cramped to try to wrestle one into the back seat.

I've also seen notability cars with a heavy duty plastic barrier around the driver so dysregulated children cannot throw things/hit/ pull hair of the driver.

Talk the situation through with motability. They may have other ideas. Describe the worst possible situation and equip the car for that day.
I'm sorry things are so hard.

That won’t be on the MOT test so they won’t think anything of it. That’s not what the MOT is for. Doesn’t make it any safe granted but the tester won’t care that’s not his remit.

nextdoornightmares · 30/08/2024 09:22

How old/what weight are your children? Because isofix fittings have a weight limit of 33kg which includes the weight of the child's car seat itself. A Joie spin360 for example weighs 13.9kg and the average 4 year old is 18kg. Obviously different car seats and different children will have different weights but you won't be able to use isofix much beyond the age of 4 or 5 so would only need a car with belted seat options.
