Do you get a hug from your teen in the morning before they leave for school?

I always have , but one seems a little quicker to rush out without a hug.

i like to keep up the hug every now and then otherwise it becomes awkward to ever hug each other. But maybe they just out grow hugs?

I have boys if that makes any difference to the question

Not in the mornings no, we communicate through grunts at that time. I have all boys though and they all still hug me, aged mid teens to early 20s

LoremIpsumCici · 29/08/2024 13:58

No. I have never set up obligatory hugs. Hugs should be spontaneous and mutual. It is only awkward when you are setting up expectations to hug every day at a set time.

bergamotorange · 29/08/2024 14:02

I think hugs should be spontaneous.

It depends whether he’s Jekyll or Hyde that day.

Octavia64 · 29/08/2024 14:05

Dear god no.

EternallyDelighted · 29/08/2024 14:09

No, mine never have, we're not a particularly huggy family.

Gedoverit · 29/08/2024 14:11

Boys grow out of it, 13, 14.. daughters don't, i still get a hug from mine when she leaves for work at 19.

Beth216 · 29/08/2024 14:11

While I love hugs ds absolutely hates them so no chance!

Mnworld222 · 29/08/2024 14:12

Dd14 always gives me a hug when she leaves and waves as she walking up the road 🥰

Ds17 I shout love you . And he shouts back gaaaaaaaaaay.

Dreamingofretirement · 29/08/2024 14:13

I’m cabin crew I often not hear when my 16yr old daughter goes to school, we hug every time I leave for work when she’s up or when I’m here and she goes to school. Sons aged 6 and 8 always needs a goodbye hug when I’m around

VivaDixie · 29/08/2024 14:14

I still get hugs from my 15yo DS. I don't push it though, he gets a hug if he wants one. Which is still every day 🙂

Duparsisoverrated · 29/08/2024 14:14

My son is 25 and still hugs and/or gives me a kiss every day. He also tells me he loves me regularly. He’s such a lovely boy.

TurquoiseDress · 29/08/2024 14:24

My primary aged children are very different with their hugs

DS in year 5 has always loved giving and receiving hugs from me & DH

Whereas DD in year 1 generally dislikes hugs and will only occasionally partake, the rest of time involves pushing/shoving us away!

My boy is much more of a hugger than my girl, will be interesting to see how things change as they get older!

JanglingJack · 29/08/2024 14:27

15 year old.

Usually, but if she's messaging her friend and friend is outside (you know, like right now!!) she'll head out without a word 🤣

Sometimes I'm still in bed and I just hear the door go.

She's a cracking girl. I'm not the centre of her universe.

toastedcrumpetsrock · 29/08/2024 14:43

Ds leaves earlier than me so he brings me a cup of tea and gives me a hug before he goes, I get the same when he goes to bed

SpringKitten · 29/08/2024 14:46

Nope, to say she’s not a morning person is putting it mildly! Hugs before bedtime usually.

Boredlass · 29/08/2024 14:48

I get a grunt

Ted27 · 29/08/2024 14:50

My son left for school before I went to work.
From year 9 I didn't get up to see him out. Instead he plonked a cup of tea on my bedside table and gave me a kiss.
Now I get a cup of tea and a kiss before he goes to bed
He's 20 and at uni, I do miss that cup of tea when he's away

Other way round here. My son (20) has pretty much always been up for a hug My daughter (22) has reserved her hugs for special occasions for some years now, mostly before or after long absences.

Wow. You lucky thing!!

spiderlight · 29/08/2024 14:59

Yes - I have a very huggy 17-year-old, so I get hugs in the morning and at bedtime as a bare minimum. I hope he never grows out of it.

sangriaandsunshineplease · 29/08/2024 15:01

I never hugged mine at nursery or primary drop off. Now I'm lucky if there's a grunt! Still hugs at other times of day though

Yes! My DS14 still doesn't leave the house without a hug, sometimes a kiss if I'm lucky... I really hope he doesn't grow out of it!
