Lidl /aldi is it worth the change.

My income has changed so I need to change how I shop. The things I buy roughly are.

Chicken, mince beef, rice , pasta, fruit. Cheese. Yogurts and simlar , bread milk, ham. Fish. Chips , and simlar . Jacket potato's. Chichen nuggets and other breaded chicken type things . Sausages . Pizza. Sausage rolls

Then non essentials like crisps , ice lollys . Biscuits . Sweets /treats ... crap . There's probably stuff I have left off

I know There's alot of prossed stuff but ds has special needs so he's not easy to feed. I use the mid range products not name brand .

It's for 1 adult 1 teen 2 children.

At the moment I shop at morrisons. And have this home delivered.

If I swapped to alli or lidl it would cost me around 10.00 on an uber /cab By the time I have paid for a cab would It be worth it . I have also heard aldi /lidl is not that cheap anymore ?

Swap to Iceland.

Really good for frozen stuff. Constant offers. Really good for frozen stuff in bags such as nuggets and vegetables.

Check it out.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 27/08/2024 17:44

Iceland deliver, btw.

StarSlinger · 27/08/2024 17:45

If you have to pay for an uber I doubt the savings will be worth it. Swap Morrisons delivery for Asda or Tesco? Or at least compare prices to see if it's worth swapping.

Factoring in an uber. Then I'd say no cheaper.

Where do you usually shop. I find tesco similar priced to aldi and lidl

KeepinOn · 27/08/2024 17:45

I don't think it would be worth it for you, tbh, because they don't always have everything in stock, even the basics, and it causes us no end of a headache sometimes. It would be more than just inconvenient for you, it would be too expensive to traipse around to other shops to plug the gaps.

StarSlinger · 27/08/2024 17:46

Oh yes I forgot about Iceland. They often do good offers.

GinBlossom94 · 27/08/2024 17:46

I can't do a full shop at Aldi/lidl, always need to go Asda too. Plus find their veg/fruit doesn't last

Floralnomad · 27/08/2024 17:47

If you aren’t buying brands I don’t think the prices will be different enough for the Uber cost . As pp said Iceland is cheap and delivers .

ruralwanderer · 27/08/2024 17:49

Sainsburys online shopping is just as cheap as Aldi or Lidl if you're not bothered about brands and if you get a Nectar card you'll get some products cheaper and money back to put towards future shops (my Christmas shop last year was free using the money I'd accumulated on my Nectar card and vouchers from Top Cashback that I got from shopping at Sainsburys online).

KlaraSundown · 27/08/2024 17:49

Instead I would swap to Tesco's and get it delivered.

Get their Club Card and you'll get loads discounted in store plus they Aldi price match on masses of items.

Game changer for me (former Waitrose shopper).

RedToothBrush · 27/08/2024 17:51

My local Morrisons is extortionate.

Every time I go in I wince at the prices.

Hayley1256 · 27/08/2024 17:51

I would try sainsburys. Much cheaper than morrisons and they price match a lot with Aldi.

KATHSTYLE · 27/08/2024 17:53

My feeling is that the savings at Aldi/ Lidl won't justify the cost of the taxi on weekly shops.

Perhaps give Asda's delivery service a try, OP. Asda often come out very well in price comparisons.

I might be worth it to do a once-a-month taxi run to Aldi/Lidl, though to bulk-buy non-perishable things like their 'Persil', loo rolls, rice, pasta, tinned toms, kidney beans etc etc. In which case you can do that particular week's fresh shop while you're there and paying for the taxi anyway.

Moonshiners · 27/08/2024 17:55

I would do a monthly shop at Aldi and stock up on things that can be frozen and will last. Out of your list that would be . Chicken, mince beef, rice , pasta. Cheese, ham. Fish. Chips , and similar . . Chichen nuggets and other breaded chicken type things . Sausages . Pizza, crisps , ice lollys . Biscuits . Sweets /treats

Fruit, veg, yoghurt, sausages rolls, bread and milk could then be bought weekly.

It would definitely save you money.

Ariela · 27/08/2024 17:56

I would look at Iceland, they do deliver free over £40 spend. Very limited on fresh fruit/veg - only do basics and not as cheap as Aldi/Lidl, but I think for what you're shopping for and given free delivery vs taxi its fine.
If you are over 60 (or have a relative over 60 who can shop for you on their card): buy on a Tuesday with their an Iceland card, and get a further 10% off.

Nomoretakeaways · 27/08/2024 17:56

It's not. I have reduced my shop to every 3 days because the fruit and veg just doesn't keep. Averaged out over the month plus fuel I would go to Asda.

Ariela · 27/08/2024 17:57

Sainsburys, if you get a nectar card and ONLY shop the Nectar deals, it's usually cheaper generally, however do be aware some deals are NOT deals - I can buy a lot of stuff cheaper in Waitrose!

I have tried Iceland before definitely go9d for frozen. But I feel like their non frozen is quite expensive

Factoring in the uber cost, then no, I don't think you will save money.

I too have recently returned to Sainsburys delivery. Unlike asda, I very rarely get a substitution, the fruit/veg is always fresh and they have everything I want. Plus, sainsburys price match alot of things at aldi. I also find they have more delivery slots than my local asda.

Why not input your normal basket of things online into say morrisons, sainsburys and asda and compare the total.

Budgetbubble · 27/08/2024 18:03

Thank you everyone. I hate Asda. So that's a no but I will try the others and see how I go . I thought it may ne the case of no point of I'm paying for cabs.

It may even work to do an Iceland shop . And another shop for non frozen

I tired to compare like that once . I just got confused 🤣

Both my DILs have a monthly online delivery they stock up on non perishable items. They do have extra fridge/cupboard garage and freezer appliances space. They say it's cheaper that way and the heavy bulky stuff is delivered to the door.

I did buy a second hand fridge freezer and put it in the garage, also a chest freezer.

Home bargains are great for cleaning solutions that you can buy in quantity. As are B&M

Tesco is quite good and a lot of products are Aldi price matched. I find Iceland quite expensive tbh.

StMarieforme · 27/08/2024 19:45

I'd do all your frozen stuff from Iceland, as often as you need to get the free delivery over £40. Do go in first though and take your time, especially Food Warehouse version as the range is huge! Branded stuff is the same price as Asda etc and no own brand so that's where you could do Sainsbury's maybe?

Does the food wearhouse one deliver?
