End of summer rituals

It’s been a bit nippy today so got me thinking I should probably wash the summer bedding before the weather changes, also been eating in the garden most evenings (same reason), I should probably pencil in the seaside trip we’ve postponed the whole summer.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or rituals to wind down to autumn (like the opposite of spring cleaning? I suppose wiping down the garden furniture and putting it away should be on the list)?

I've bought a Rosamund Pilcher book called End of Summer and will re read Two Weeks in September which I love.

I'm always bemused by how much stuff people have that is winter specific that it constitutes an entire wardrobe that is packed away for a few weeks every year.

My winter clothing consists of some slightly thicker jumpers and a few more pairs of tights. What are all the extra bits of clothing people have?

Yes, I live in the West of Scotland so there aren't usually extremes of temperature and most clothes are likely to be useful year round (ie everything needs to be suitable for layering to deal with possible warm/cool/cold/wet - possibly within the same morning.)

I've got a stash of "abroad" summer clothes and a down coat for winter, but otherwise can't really justify swapping over wardrobes.

Playing our "Autumn Playlist", on Alexa, in the mornings.

What would be an autumn song?

November Rain by Guns n Roses

I guess depends where you live? I’m in Scotland. My winter wardrobe has many wool jumpers and thermals. Also wool and tweed skirts and dresses.

Lovely thread!

Autumn is my favourite season!

I've got lots to do once DC are back at school.
Washing all the throws ready to go on the couches.
Checking the hat /scarf / glove stash.
Boiler service
We've just bought a door curtain to hopefully save some money on heating.
Have fixed our energy prices
Wash / re waterproof winter coats and shoes
Vac pack summer clothes and get out winter clothes. Aaaallll the dresses tights and boots!
Pack the garden toys and furniture away for winter but we usually wait until October half term for this

More fun jobs include digging out my autumn/winter books and candles ready for quiet evenings.
Meal planning and looking up new recipes especially slow cooker ones love a slow cooker meal when it's cold.
Get my new diary out and fill in all school term dates etc

i had half an hour today and the weather was shocking so I did the knitwear sort. One hole to be sewn in a cashmere jumper, couple of old thick jumpers thick to be thrown (I need to be more ruthless when packing away in the spring).

I’ve worked out my wardrobe gaps and will be shopping to fill those the next few weeks.

Apolloneuro · 31/08/2024 20:37

Love this thread. It’s reminded me that I need a new winter coat.
