I'm so itchy - peri?

After a full day of feeling like shit and fatigue, I can't sleep because I'm so itchy. I itch everywhere. My scalp, my face, my body. Everywhere. It's there all the time but nightimes are worse.

I'm drenched in body lotion, body oil, body serum about five times a day but it just never stops. Is this peri? Do I need some hormones? I'm 45 and periods are just starting to lengthen or shorten after decades of a regular cycle. Plus, I'm very angry about little things I wouldn't have cared about before. I'm looking at you husband and child who don't load the dishwasher or do it in an strategically incompetent way. I'm straight off to the docs tomorrow but what should I ask for?

Histamine does rise at night so either look into Histamine free foods or perhaps take an antihistamine before bed and see how it works.
You could also try half teaspoon breadsoda/ baking soda in water if it's very bad.

Cutting out sugar should help too.

The GP will probably ask for a blood test. Itching can be a sign of kidney or liver issues, but it's usually an allergy thing. As last person said, try taking antihistamines. You can get an anti itching E45 cream, or just try hydrocortisone cream?
I used a rough old towel to rub my skin to stop scratching as that could make it worse.
Do you have eczema? It could also be down to a flare up of that.

Hayfever is bad this year so I'm on daily antihistamines.

Serum albumin is a bit low as is serum bicarbonate on blood tests less than a month old.

Diet is boringly good. Hardly anything processed or high in sugar in a bid to raise energy levels.

I wouldn't use e45 and parrafins on my skin but have that aveeno dark blue stuff which lots of eczema people like. Not that I've ever suffered with eczema before. It's so bloody frustrating and annoying

I'm sorry I'm so grumpy and/or snappy. I just want to sleep. I'll go back to the GPs

I definitely suffered from extreme itch before starting HRT but unfortunately I had a gp who considered it 'unethical' to prescribe HRT unless the women was in full menopause (at least a year since last period), I was attending her with all these different symptoms and she never once mentioned peri or menopause!! I ended up bypassing her and paying to see a specialist who immediately prescribed HRT, the difference it made was incredible and the itch vanished within days. I wish I could go back in time and start HRT years before I actually did.

Have you any Loratadine anti histamines? That helps my itching tremendously but must be Loratadine

For hrt, transdermal patches or gel are the most common things used for oestrogen and you'll need to take a progestogen too to prevent the womb lining from building up. The best one is body identical progesterone which just means it's the same as what your own body naturally produces. Some women don't get on great with that but some women love it as it can help with sleep and staying calm. It's also supposed to be good for histamine. As i understand it, oestrogen and histamine can feed each other somehow and progesterone helps control that.
