Are you a list maker?

We love lists in our house.
Even the little DCs love to sit and make a list (very cute, often include things like
*Play with Scruffles ~ not pet real name
*Go play in garden
*Have ice lolly)

Interested to know because a friend is a fellow list maker, but her other half scoffs at her lists and makes fun of her (yes, he isn't a very nice person in many, many other ways) so she was surprised to learn my DH loves a list as much as we do!

I write lists on my phone more often than not, but DH is still very much a pen and notepad person.

Yes ! Love. A list. My whole life is managed by lists 😅

I use the notes app in my phone with sub folders for to do, holidays, Christmas etc.

At work I use a paper diary.

It makes me feel calmer and in control

Yes, if only I followed them all!

LadyMinerva · 18/08/2024 08:50

Oh yes, lists about lists about lists. I have notebooks and post it's and electronic lists. I can't cope without them.
Each workday has a list, each weekend day has a list. Christmas has a list.. I could go on.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 18/08/2024 08:54

Always been a list maker.
The dog is quite used to me telling him “Wait your turn, you're on the list” when he’s looking for a walk before I’m ready.

singularsensation · 18/08/2024 08:56

Yes! I'm a tremendous list maker and crossing a task off one of my lists or adding one on is my favourite thing to do

whatsappdoc · 18/08/2024 08:59

I have a hardback A4 list book. I was recently reading through the ones I made for the whole house selling/buying process from start to finish. Although I say it myself I was fucking marvellous.

This sounds amazing. I'm weirdly interested in other people's lists and often wish I could ask to see them, in case I'm missing a fabulous list technique that I could add to my list-making repertoire. Especially if they're colour coded.

But I realise how weird that sounds so I don't ask. #listweirdo

I learnt my love of lists from my dad. Everything is better for a list. Think of all the satisfaction non-listers are missing, the poor things.

My daughter has been making lists since before she could write - she would do lines of scribble, tell me what they “said” and cross them off as she did them. I loved those.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 18/08/2024 09:05

I have lists on my phone.

Shopping lists
School lists
Household finance list
Holiday list
House maintenance list….

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/08/2024 09:44

Making lists is a slippery slope to forgetfulness;

  1. You start relying on them, if it is not on a list it doesn't get done/bought.
  2. You can't make an independent decision without it.
  3. Unless you maintain it methodically you can't be sure if you have done the task and removed it from the list or not added it yet.
  4. Lists on paper are difficult to organise chronologically.
  5. Hitler failed to add the 'Consider the Russian Winter' to his campaign list with disastrous results.
  6. In a 'multiple list household' there can be conflicts which lead to arguments and ultimately a breakdown of the marriage and the children ending up in care homes.
  7. I think that there is something else, but I have forgotten it.
treacledan71 · 18/08/2024 09:48

Yes. I do a fresh to do list every day for my actual job as some things get done quick and get given extra things too. Tgen carry things over. I like to type it in big font if can print when in the office but if wfh will write it. Know you can get apps etc for them. For personal stuff I write lists too or email myself to remind me then add to my list or do a email reminder on delay.

olderbutwiser · 18/08/2024 09:51

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles 🤣🤣🤣

I recommend Todoist app which will help with 3, 4 and 6. Not as sensorially pleasing as my fountain pen and lechturm planner but at least I can read my list.

Ive added “remember not to invade Moscow or Afghanistan” as a weekly todo.

Sweetteaplease · 18/08/2024 09:52

My lists have lists

RabbitsRock · 18/08/2024 09:57

I love lists! During lockdown writing things down helped me feel more in control but I have always been a list maker. Currently I have :-
Meals list for the coming week
Shopping lists ( food & household items)
List of places to visit
List of friends to catch up with
List of things to do in the house/garden
List of things to advertise on Vinted etc
Christmas card list although that needs editing as I won’t be sending many this year - postage is ridiculous!

SatinHeart · 18/08/2024 09:58

Yep I love a good list. DH prefers a spreadsheet 😂

UpUpUpU · 18/08/2024 09:59

Yep! Sometimes I make a list of the lists I need to write!

Sat making 2 right now 😂

Taytocrisps · 18/08/2024 10:00

I have found my people!

Ooooh - I feel quite breathless with excitement at the thought of your list.

Lists are my way of creating order out of chaos. I like order.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 18/08/2024 10:04

I’ve got a small whiteboard that I use for weekly to do lists, then enjoy crossing jobs off & finally cleaning the whole thing once they’re all done.

AuntieMarys · 18/08/2024 10:06

I love a notebook for my lists! We are in the process of moving house and I'd be lost without my lists!

Flapjackfiasco · 18/08/2024 10:07

I have so many lists! But I've recently been thinking of stopping them because I find they make me really stressed when I see all the things I need to do/buy and I can't tick them off.

LaWench · 18/08/2024 10:07

Yes, lists and colour coded calendars.

I made my own planner from scratch at work because I couldn't find a diary/ list maker/ notepad that worked for me. I love it now. I need 2 weeks to view every time so I can plan next week whilst working through this week. I have created work specific lists that I use every week. All used paper is flipped to the unused side and used in the jotter area for notes.

Irridescantshimmmer · 18/08/2024 10:11

I love lists too, yes they keep me organised, both. on paper with hand drawn tick boxes as well as the ColorNote app.

Haveanaiceday · 18/08/2024 10:15

I've always felt I should make lists as I have some issues with memory and organisation but at the same time I just can't get into doing them. Interestingly I did one of those personality quizzes recently and one of the questions was about if you like lists and so on to organise yourself, and this was one of the ways they looked at if you were more of a logical thinker and planner or someone who likes to do things by what feels right. I think that's where I struggle because my natural inclination is not to like lists and planners (and routines!) but I would certainly benefit from them.
