I bought Lurpak in Iceland the other day.
I've never had it before.
I'm from Dublin.

Can I ask why does everyone rave about it.
I found it very meh.

I don't know. It's virtually tasteless. It's marginally better than those vegetable/margarine spreads in that it doesn't have an unpleasant taste or feel, which the vegetable/margarine ones do.

NuffSaidSam · 17/08/2024 14:09

Do people rave about Lurpak?

I don't think I've ever had a conversation about Lurpak.

Davros · 17/08/2024 14:10

It's nothing special. You can get much better butter in M&S

dementedpixie · 17/08/2024 14:11

I use own brand blocks of butter. Lurpak is overpriced

ComeOnThenFanny · 17/08/2024 14:13

I've never understood the love for Lurpak either. It's virtually tasteless. Proper salted block butter is so much better!

DinnaeFashYersel · 17/08/2024 14:14

I think it's very nice but so is all butter.

Did you buy it in Dublin? I adore Lurpak but can't find any shops that sell it in Dublin... I didn't think there were any Icelands here

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 17/08/2024 14:16

This is a flex, we all know Lurpak is more expensive by weight than gold Wink

WappityWabbit · 17/08/2024 14:17

It's nowhere near as tasty as locally made Irish butters and I say that as a Brit. 🤷🏻‍♀️

GrazingSheep · 17/08/2024 14:17

It’s made with milk, rapeseed oil, water and salt. Butter is made with cream and salt.

Mybusyday · 17/08/2024 14:17

Lurpack is disgusting and doesn't spread - and it costs a fortune! Clover is much better

BobbyBiscuits · 17/08/2024 14:17

I can't stand it! Absolutely tasteless grease.
Irish butter and dairy products were always lovely when I visited. The ice cream!! 🤤 Oh, I hope it's not gone all crap now like everything else!

MrsCarson · 17/08/2024 14:24

Dh likes the Aldi version of Lurpak, I like the Aldi version of Anchor spreadable butter.

BibbityBobbityToo · 17/08/2024 14:27

Lurpak Spread lover here. Yes, I would prefer proper butter but the spreadyness of Lurpak is handy for quickness as I would never remember to take the butter out the fridge in time for my lunchtime sandwich.

You can keep a small block of butter in a covered butterdish for a few days and it will keep fine.

Jomummy1013 · 17/08/2024 14:30

I'm in the minority!! I love Lurpak, to me, nothing beats it!

I really can't, too many bad memories of rancid butter in Grandads house 40 years ago and the cat constantly trying to get in to it 🤣

Maddy70 · 17/08/2024 14:33

I hate the taste of lurpak. It tastes like cheap marg to me. Give me a golden salty butter anytime over that

DreamW3aver · 17/08/2024 14:36

Who raves about Lurpack, I've never heard anyone say that. Too expensive for me to even think about buying it so no idea if I'd like it

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 17/08/2024 14:39

I worked for the company that makes Lurpak and most other dairy spreads. They are all the same.

Sinderalla · 17/08/2024 14:40

I'm in Northern Ireland.
This is my fridge butter. I used REAL butter for everything else. It doesn't get refrigerated x

lubl · 17/08/2024 14:42

I've tried numerous different butters,
margarines and spreads and none of them are as good as Lurpak,
not even the Aldi/Lidl dupes!

Turophilic · 17/08/2024 14:44

French butter is usually very good -- lower water content. If you want a really decent butter, that’s worth a go.

Lurpak is just the beneficiary of some adept branding. It’s not anything special.

Ah, you're Irish, Irish butter is just better than anything else. Problem solved ☘️

Blueuggboots · 17/08/2024 14:47

Compared to kerrygold, it's meh.

But it's great if you want to make really white buttercream!!
